Her debut was as Amneris in Aida with the Chicago Opera in 1928. She remained through 1932, also singing such roles as Adalgisa to Raisa’s Norma and Charlotte to Schipa’s Werther, among other such parts and with similarly illustrious colleagues. In 1932 she and Ruffo opened New York’s Radio City Music Hall in a condensed version of Carmen , a role she sang over 2000 times. Much of her career was with the touring San Carlo company as well as the summer seasons of the St. Louis and Cincinnati Operas. In addition to her voice, she was noted for her beauty and acting skill. She retired in 1947 and then taught voice in New York. In 1983, she was a guest of the NY Vocal Record Collectors’ Society, a memorable evening arranged by Charles Mintzer, who interviewed her, with the assistance of Arthur Naftal and Eli Solis. It is indeed strange that she never made any commercial recordings. He was a creator in several operas, including Massenet’s Le roi de Lahore and Reyer’s Sigurd . His debut at La Scala was in 1879. The same year he made his Covent Garden début. He appeared with the leading artists of the last quarter of the 19 th century and was admired for both his vocal and acting skills.
