2017 was a year of growth and development for Ultimate . Competitive Ultimate programs experienced signi cant growth at the junior, adult, and university level, with nearly 15 per cent growth in participation numbers. Additionally, many development milestones were met including hundreds of new coaches trained, the release of curriculum resources for school teachers, distribution of outreach and Art Hawkins grants, and Ultimate’s inclusion in the ParticipACTION 150 list.

While there were a lot of positives from 2017 our organization strives to continue improving. 2018 will be a challenging year for Ultimate Canada with a busy world championship calendar that includes 2 WFDF events in Canada, operation of the CUC: Brampton without a local organizing committee, and several new develop- ment projects to support the community. We look forward to working hard to meet these challenges in 2018 and to lead, develop and promote excellence and spirit in Canadian Ultimate.

Sincerely,

Danny Saunders Executive Director Ultimate Canada

4 President’s Address

2017 for Ultimate Canada: CUC was held in Ottawa and Saskatoon and both cities did an excellent job of hosting. The year also saw other s uccessful National Championship events hosted by Ottawa and Montréal QC and a successful Ultimate Canada Conference in Montréal. A considerable eort culminated in the release of the Ultimate Canada Strategic Plan 2017-2021 – guidance for the development of the sport in Canada over the next 5 years.

On the eld there was more success internationally. Team Canada paced third at the 2017 World Games in Wroclaw Poland. Canadian Teams participated in WFDF events: WFDF 2017 World Championships of Beach Ultimate (WCBU) in France/Portugal, the Pan American Ultimate Club Championships (PAUCC) in Argentina and, sneaking into 2018, the World U24 Ultimate Championships (WU24UC) in Perth, Australia.

On the immediate horizon, this summer Canadian Teams be competing at three WFDF events in North America: rst up is the 2018 World Ultimate Club Championships (WUCC) in Cincinnati OH and then two events on Canadian soil. Winnipeg will host the 2018 World Masters Ultimate Club Championships (WMUCC) and then Waterloo will host the 2018 World Junior Ultimate Championships (WJUC). The event planning and execution is well underway in both cities. Interested in volunteering at either? Check out the volunteer opportunities on their websites.

The work involved in ultimate is year-round and it includes both employment and volunteer work. Running leagues and programs, training, coaching and just having fun. Ultimate Canada is always looking for input from Ultimate organizations, leagues and players from across Canada. If you are passionate about any or all aspects of ultimate in Canada think about volunteering for one of the UC Committees or a position on the UC Board. And think about attending or having a representative of your organization attend the 2018 Ultimate Canada Conference in Burnaby BC (November 17-19).

Everyone involved in Ultimate Canada, sta and volunteers - including UC board/committee members - they are all looking forward to the upcoming year. And hoping to see you on the elds – or hear from you - at some point over the next year!

Sincerely,

Rob Langridge President Ultimate Canada
