Cette collection est conservée au Muséum des sciences naturelles à Bruxelles. Le petit meuble à tiroirs illustré ici est une modeste partie de cette très vaste collection ; il appartient au Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle et est conservé à la Station marine de Dinard. Il regroupe des bivalves et gastéropodes du golfe Normano-Breton essentiellement prélevés au début du XXe siècle et soigneusement référencés. C. officinalis turfs can be considered a biodiversity reservoir, as they shelter numerous invertebrate species. The aim of this study was to identify mollusk species within these settlements using DNA barcoding as a method for detailed identification of mollusks. Nine locations and 18 localities with algal coverage range above 90% were chosen at four research areas. Costa1 The Gastropoda is one of the best studied classes of marine invertebrates. Yet, most species have been delimited based on morphology only. The application of DNA barcodes has shown to be greatly useful to help delimiting species. Therefore, sequences of the cytochrome c oxidase I gene from 108 specimens of 34 morpho-species were used to investigate the molecular diversity within the gastropods from the Portuguese coast. To the above dataset, we added available COI-5P sequences of taxonomically close species, in a total of 58 morpho-species examined. There was a good match between ours and sequences from independent studies, in public repositories. We found 32 concordant (91.4%) out of the 35 Barcode Index Numbers (BINs) generated from our sequences. The application of a ranking system to the barcodes yield over 70% with top taxonomic congruence, while 14.2% of the species barcodes had insufficient data. In the majority of the cases, there was a good concordance between morphological identification and DNA barcodes. Nonetheless, the discordance between morphological and molecular data is a reminder that even the comparatively well-known European marine gastropods can benefit from being probed using the DNA barcode approach. -

Curto1,7 Abstract Background: In the marine realm, dispersal ability is among the major factors shaping the distribution of species. In the Northeast Atlantic Ocean, the Azores Archipelago is home to a multitude of marine invertebrates which, despite their dispersal limitations, maintain gene fow among distant populations, with complex evolutionary and biogeo- graphic implications. The mechanisms and factors underlying the population dynamics and genetic structure of non- planktotrophic gastropods within the Azores Archipelago and related mainland populations are still poorly under- stood. The rissoid Cingula trifasciata is herewith studied to clarify its population structure in the Northeast Atlantic Ocean and factors shaping it, with a special focus in intra-archipelagic dynamics. Results: Coupling microsatellite genotyping by amplicon sequencing (SSR-GBAS) and mitochondrial datasets, our results suggest the diferentiation between insular and continental populations of Cingula trifasciata, supporting previously raised classifcation issues and detecting potential cryptic diversity. The fnding of connectivity between widely separated populations was startling. In unique ways, dispersal ability, habitat type, and small-scale oceano- graphic currents appear to be the key drivers of C. trifasciata’s population structure in the remote Azores Archipelago. Dispersal as non-planktotrophic larvae is unlikely, but its small-size adults easily engage in rafting. -

SARSIA Part 3. – Sarsia 81:197-245. Bergen. ISSN 0036-4827. This paper is a continuation of WARÉN’s articles in Sarsia volumes 74, 76, and 78. Mikro globulus gen. et sp.n. (Archaeogastropoda, provisionally in Skeneidae) is described from the Icelandic shelf and Anekes giustii NOFRONI & BOGI, 1989 from the Mediterranean is transferred to this genus. Protolira thorvaldsoni sp.n. (Archaeogastropoda, Skeneidae) is described from decaying whale bone found off southwestern Iceland. Coccopigya lata sp.n. (Archaeogastropoda, Cocculinidae), Alvania angularis sp.n. and A. incognita (Mesogastropoda, Rissoidae) are described from sunken drift wood from deep water off Iceland. Onoba improcera sp.n. and O. torelli sp.n. (Mesogastropoda, Rissoidae) are described from northern Iceland. ‘Cingula’ globuloides WARÉN, 1972 (formerly in Rissoidae) is transferred to Elachisina (Mesogastropoda, Elachisinidae). Alvania alaskana (DALL, 1887) and Alvania dinora (BARTSCH, 1917), both from Alaska, are synonymised with Onoba mighelsi (STIMPSON, 1851) (Mesogastropoda, Rissoidae). Brookesena turrita sp.n. (Heterobranchia, Mathildidae) is described from several localities around the Icelandic upper continental slope and Turritellopsis stimpsoni DALL, 1919 (formerly known as T. acicula (STIMPSON, 1851), Mesogastropoda, Turritellidae) is transferred to the Mathildidae. All northeast Atlantic species of Rissoidae (Mesogastropoda) except the genera Rissoa and Pusillina are reviewed, and their distribution and habitat is given. Substantial extension of the distributional range is given for the following Gastropoda: Granigyra inflata (WARÉN, 1992), off southwestern Iceland ca 1000 m. Lissotesta turrita (GAGLINI, 1987), off southwestern Iceland ca 1200 m. -

Editor “Silent Summer”*, an important review of the state of wildlife in Britain and Ireland published in May this year, includes chapters reporting on the status of specific groups (e.g. “Land and freshwater molluscs” by Ian Killeen) where the increasing impact of introduced species is a particular emphasis. In April I noticed for the first time an adult specimen of Hygromia cinctella in my Bedfordshire garden. This was the first record locally of this introduced species, despite our previous hard winter in the U.K. It’s not surprising that there are several articles in this magazine which relate to the discovery of alien species from both marine and non-marine environments. It is always satisfying to be able to include aids to identification in the magazine and I would highly recommend Ben Rowson’s image of upper shore crevice fauna, included on page 17 as part of the Marine Recorder’s report. Once again, thanks are due to all who have sent in interesting contributions. I continue to value input on a wide range of subjects from members in the UK and Ireland and internationally, as this adds an essential wider context and interest. Alvania mediolittoralis Gofas, 1989 is an endemic Azorean rissoid very common in sheltered places and particularly abundant among the algal turf covering the lower half of the intertidal and upper subtidal rocky shores. This species reproduces throughout the year, with two spawning peaks, one during early spring and the other in late autumn. In an attempt to relate to current paleobiogeographical studies, inferences are made regarding the ecological advantages of species with a continuous type of reproduction, on Azorean shores, during glacial episodes.
