The day begins with 35 mm projections of two masterpieces: the wartime drama ; The Gold of - the director’s homage to his elective city with , Toto’, Anna Magnani, and Edoardo De Filippo - and for the first time, the uncut version with all six episodes. Experience two of cinema’s most famous couples - Sophia Loren and - in the new 4K digital restoration of . The series will conclude with the California Premiere of the new restoration of the Oscar winner The Garden of the Finzi-Continis . This series is co-presented by Istituto Luce Cinecittà and The Italian Cultural Institute of San Francisco. With the support of The Leonardo da Vinci Society. VITTORIO DE SICA- A Film Series follows the success of PASOLINI in 2013 and BERTOLUCCI in 2014. These were the first two spe - cial projects were co-presented by Italy’s national film institution Luce-Cinecittà in Rome and the Italian Cultural Institute of San Fran - cisco, and organized by Amelia Antonucci. They were presented in association with the Ministry of Culture of Italy and the Consulate General of Italy in San Francisco. BERTOLUCCI took place on October 18th, 2014, at the world-famous Castro Theatre. Over 1,500 people attended the special series, which was highlighted with the Northern California Premiere of newly restored 3D version of the 9-time Academy Award-winning film THE LAST EMPEROR along with the presence of celebrated actress Joan Chen in person.

BERTOLUCCI was a special highlight in the Bay Area cultural calendar of Fall 2014, and was publicized in the major news agencies of the region, including the San Francisco Chronicle, the Bay Guardian, SF Weekly, L’Italo Americano, SF Examiner, the Bay Area Re - porter, etc. Below are some photo souvenirs. r e z i t l A
