Not the ideal finish to a season with each of the finals poised to produce tense, exciting cricket on the final day After feedback from stake holders the Board decided to keep the season format similar to the previous season, with the major changes being the introduction of Open 2-day cricket from A to D-grade, the adjustment to the junior age ranks which saw the demise of the u17 comp, with the u15/16 age group the last in Juniors – this put more emphasis on the mentoring of our juniors as they moved into the senior grades, the dropping of the Reserve Grade T20 comp and the return of no local cricket on the Brisbane Test match weekend Cricketers in Toowoomba had the options of 2-day, 1-day and T20 cricket for seniors. We saw an increase in Team nominations will all Clubs fielding sides in the A, Reserve, B, C and D- grades as well as the Over 35 T20 comp. Once again Toowoomba is one of the few regional centres to offer players an opportunity to play all three formats of the game. In addition we saw the junior season broken into two halves to help manage the loss of players to school competitions in Term 1, the return of Sunday morning girl’s cricket and the introduction of T20 Blast cricket for juniors. In fact we are struggling to find grounds suitable for senior and junior cricket Major activities during the season include The revamping& introduction of the junior cricket pathway system with the aim increasing player involvement and enjoyment – a tremendous by the effort Junior Sub- committee The appointment and support of curators for the Captain Cook fields and Heritage Oval which saw the return of A-grade and Representative Cricket to Heritage. We greatly appreciate the efforts put in by the Cooper boys – Jamie and Laurie, Pat Gipps and Dave Robinson at Captain Cook (with help from young blokes Campbell & Ben) The hiring of Green Options to help with the preseason preparation work of our turf wickets The continued efforts in getting Heritage Oval to the standard we all would like on a week to week basis – in addition to Jamie and Laurie’s efforts we also acknowledge the support of Wayne Heinemann (QC) and John Littleproud. We will be taking some deep cores of the wicket block in the next few weeks to help us better understand what we are working with, in addition we have applied for a TRC infrastructure grant to help with the continued development of the wicket block The continued commitment of players to our Representative sides (Webb Shield and Plunkett Cups) – congratulations to Matt Dennis and Matt Walls for again leading the sides, to John Littleproud and his fellow selectors in coordinating the sides, Rus Riggall and other cricket supporters who locked after the scoring, bus driving etc The hosting of the WNCL round between the Qld Fire and WA Fury sides – at times you wander about the additional work placed on volunteers, but then you consider the immediate and future benefits, the contacts made, the knowledge gained on so many fronts, the promotion our game gains from such visits and excitement on the faces of our juniors helps to make it all worth while Another highlight, which may not have direct influence on, is the return of the Secondary Schools senior and u15 term 1 mid-week schools sport cricket. To be asked to help provide wickets and fields for them is good news as hopefully many of these players may then be tempted to play Club cricket on weekends In fear of forgetting people I apologize in advance but our season would not run without a lot of effort from many people: Our curators: Jamie, Laurie, Pat, Dave, Campbell, Ben, Bob, Ross & Radar, Mick, Noel, Hemal and new king of grass JL – a big thank you for all your efforts. The Toowoomba Regional Council team who again had weather challenges in keeping fields under control but also provided tremendous support with grants and other projects The local media – Ben, Trent and the Chronicle team, the local WIN News team, and Ian Reimers with his weekly cricket segment to name but a few Peter Davies for all his behind the scenes IT and Admin work – especially with MyCricket, our web site and points collection Keith Barton and Ivan Walls for their behind the scenes work Jason McWilliam and the Club delegates who make up the Competition Committee The sponsors & supporters of both Toowoomba Cricket and our Clubs – your help keeping participation costs down and providing equipment is most appreciated All the Club Volunteers – too many to name but every Club has a small group of people who make sure things happen so many can enjoy their cricket – a big thankyou to these people, take the opportunity to thank them Chris Howard’s team of men in black and white, a group that we would love to see grow in number! Future challenges and opportunities facing us over the coming seasons Continued development and recruitment of junior players, providing an effective pathway, so they are retained in the sport Opportunities for teenage girls and women to play cricket Maximising the opportunity for people to play the game, weather a social cricketer or a player aiming for higher representative honours Finding suitable grounds so all who wish to can play cricket in safe environment Continued involvement of the proposed Charlton and Highfields Sports fields developments The recruitment and retention of umpires Fitting our fixtures into the calendar, the challenges of winter sports encroaching into the tradition summer sport window – effects player numbers, ground availability, the work of volunteers and parents Managing the cost of playing the game Finally I would like to thank the Board for all their efforts as well as the support, ideas and interest in the sport by the various Club Presidents, Secretaries and Captains whose input is most valuable. We will be some vacancies on the Board next season which presents opportunities for some new faces and skills with Rick, Rus and possibility others not seeking re- election. If interested please don’t hesitate to contact me. We hope to see you all involved in cricket again next season – enjoying all that that game has to offer Angus Rathie President Toowoomba Cricket 2013-14 Toowoomba Cricket Board: Angus Rathie (President), Rick Wood (Secretary), Cherie Fenwick (Treasurer), John Littleproud (Representative Cricket Coordinator), Russell Riggall, David Lester & Dave Marquart (Juniors Representative) 2013-14 Junior Sub Committee: Dean Spanner, Valma Cahill, Dave Marquart and the various Club Delegates 2013 – 2014 Season Statistics (Each Grade) A – Grade MOST RUNS in A-GRADE: 2004 – 2005 Randall Hart (769 runs) Northern Brothers Diggers 2005 – 2006 Scott Farquharson (515 runs) Metropolitan-Easts 2006 – 2007 David Orange (567 runs) University 2007 – 2008 David Orange (561 runs) University 2008 – 2009 Nathan Stains (405 runs) Railways Bulldogs 2009 – 2010 John Littleproud (472 runs) University 2010 – 2011 David Else (385 runs) University 2011 – 2012 Blake Anderson (394 runs) Northern Brothers Diggers 2012 – 2013 Chris Hall (498 runs) Northern Brothers Diggers 2013 – 2014 BRIAN MAY (843 runs) WESTERN DISTRICTS Runners Up: Brendan Jones (658 runs) SDMCC Troy Gurski (591 runs) Met-Easts MOST WICKETS in A-GRADE: 2004 – 2005 Chris Webster (31 wickets) University 2005 – 2006 David Orange (34 wicket) University 2006 – 2007 Chris Webster (29 wickets) University 2007 – 2008 Chris Webster (38 wickets) University 2008 – 2009 Chris Webster (35 wickets) University 2009 – 2010 Chris Webster (40 wickets) University 2010 – 2011 Aaron Watson (32 wickets) Northern Brothers Diggers Adam Marjoribanks (32 wickets) Metropolitan-Easts 2011 – 2012 Chris Webster (50 wickets) University 2012 – 2013 Michael Miller (36 wickets) Northern Brothers Diggers Chris Webster (36 wickets) University 2013 – 2014 MICHAEL MILLER (45 wickets) NORTHERN BROTHERS DIGGERS Runners Up: Chris Webster (36 wkts) University Brendan Doggett (36 wkts) SDMCC MOST DISMISSALS in A-GRADE: 2004 – 2005 Matthew Grassick & Brad Neil (16) Western Districts/Metropolitan-Easts 2005 – 2006 Kent Paroz (14) Metropolitan-Easts
