Our back line had plenty to do as Warrandyte pressed 7 Fortington James 21 James Henry forward early, we started a man down in the backline the boys had to dig deep to keep them out. Ben mopping up and Oliver’s great chase and tackle meant Warrandyte couldn’t take advantage of the extra man and could 8 Noonan Xavier 34 Walsh Liam only manage a couple behinds. Wills creative handball and Ryan making space to be an option ensured we could then transition the ball out of defence. the team thing and looked inside to fi nd Xavier but his shot was touched on the line and Warrandyte managed James battled in the packs and managed to get the ball clear to Liam who could then get the ball forward. to clear the ball. Will and Elliot up forward being creativity with Will not in his kick and hit to post. A determination and Thomas who took a nice chest mark and looked sideways to deliver it to his teammates big thanks to George from Warrandyte who had a run with us after Oliver had to depart early. advantage. Once Elliot arrived the back line started to get on top and halt Warrandyte’s attacks as the quarter fi nished with neither side being able to kick a major. After being harassed at home for a few weeks the Noonan boys got their wish and played together in the midfi eld, it would be the best they have played in a zone together all year sharing the ball around and using Quarter time and we concentrated on moving the ball quickly and not kicking over the man on the mark but effective handball to bring each other as well as Elliot and Kai into the game and putting each other into to move it quickly on the 45, when in trouble we handball or tap it out to a shark’s advantage. Well when the space. Kai providing plenty of grunt work and Elliot’s pace and determination getting clear the boys fi nished boys start doing this they make oppositions look slow. Its amazing that such young boys can move the ball so the game on top. Just like the third quarter our defence was rock solid led by our captain James ably quickly hitting targets when some fantastic handball and accurate kicking. We started to open the big ground supported by Thomas who was ferocious with his tackling and maybe a little to over zealous gave a couple up by looking laterally than attacking. Liam was a prime example of this during the 2nd quarter, he was in and free kicks away for high tackles but his attack on the ball was to be commended, Henry also supporting Ryan under when he needed to be but then moved quickly to space and was able to run onto it and get clear on the and Patty kept a clean sheet, It’s really pleasing to see the boys looking to fi nd a man to play on in defence, as outside, a well rounded game, Julian put his disappointment aside with this missed goal to provide Oliver the Henry did exactly what we spoke about as a team that when you man up you remember the players number opportunity to run clear and drive it long with his desperation in the pack and Will who has time when he has and tell me at the end of the quarter. Henry was on number 7. the ball to always pick the right option. With the boys controlling the midfi eld our forwards had plenty of chances to kick away but Warrandyte Warrandyte not to be outdone had their fair share of the ball but couldn’t manage to crack the shark’s defences wouldn’t let them have it all their way, as the ball kept being sent back forward the boys fi nally started to fi nd with Xavier chasing down a Warrandyte playing who looked set to get clear and kick a goal and was rewarded space and opportunity. with a free kick. Xavier moved the ball quickly to Ben who ran onto it and kicked long out of defence. The midfi eld scrambled it forward with Patty battling on his own didn’t let Warrandyte get clear and with the troops Julian was rewarded and made up for his fi rst quarter disappointment and slotted one, Will again putting his arriving in support bottled it up to even the contest. teammate Liam into space and Ben’s long range shot sailing through. Will nearly had goal of the day with some quick thinking from the pocket just grazing the post. At one stage when I thought Warrandyte had some Patty and Kai battled hard and Darcy in support was released who kick forward to Ryan and Kai but Darcy’s open space to attack down the open side Owen one of the Warrandyte boys playing for us laid a great tackle wayward kick advantaged Warrandyte who managed to clear the ball. Liam who was playing a super game that resulted in a shark’s goal. Warrandyte played well and really challenged the boys, to their credit they stuck in the midfi eld cut it off and sent it back the sharks way. Darcy ran into it but hit the post again. Warrandyte at it and showed what teamwork and looking after your teammate can achieve with some attractive footy full of again managed to get it wide Darcy cut them off and with Ryan and James arriving in support managed to run and skill. force a ball up. Unfortunately we lost the toss and were forced to kick into the wind in the fi rst term. Bulleen Temp started off fast and put our backs under pressure from the get go, with multiple shots on goal which could have been more if not for the rock solid defence of Michael, Xavier M and Luca. The ball continued to come down there but was repelled by some strong marking over head from Luca. We got our chance to kick with the wind in the second term and the boys took advantage of it, with plenty of action in our forward zone, but we struggled to capitalise. Lucky we had Alex down there who can sniff a goal from a mile out, and his hard work was rewarded with a nice running snap to get us onto the scoreboard. Things were tight again in the 3rd quarter with both teams having lots of scoring shots, without much luck. Oliver continued his great form with ferocious attack on the ball and was rewarded with plenty of touches down back. We managed to get another goal with Michael turning onto his trusty left foot and kicking truly. Xavier M was also in everything down forward and his pressure saw a lot of turnovers which resulted in multiple scoring shots. Going into the last quarter the message was to know where your opposition player was at all times, and it started to pay off in spades. Arlo was in everything in the midfi eld, continuing to drive the ball forward which gave our boys a great chance, resulting in Archie kicking a couple of last quarter goals, even though he was coming off a virus. The ball stayed in our forward line thanks to the desperation of Lucas, and if it did come out, our skipper for the day, Joel, was ensuring it went straight back in, resulting in us kick 5 goals in the last. Great job boys, especially with low numbers! Our last game of the season sees us take on U/8 Red team in what will be another great game. Captain: Joel Troani
