2387 TERRORISM AND HOMICIDE VICTIMS' REMEMBRANCE DAY MR to move— That this House: (1) Notes that Friday 12 October 2012 was New South Wales Terrorism and Homicide Victims' Remembrance Day. (2) Notes that the day was instigated by the Homicide Victims' Support Group (Aust) Incorporated and is a significant day of remembrance for family members of all acts of homicide and terrorism. (3) Notes that the day is about remembering the families left behind, the police and emergency staff, volunteers and counsellors also affected by these tragedies. (4) Notes that the day brings people together to reflect on the life or lives lost and provides community support for victims' families. (5) Congratulates Martha Jabour, Executive Officer of the Homicide Victims Support Group, on her efforts to raise awareness of the effect of homicide and terrorism on victims' families.

2388 HUNTER RAIL COMMUTING MS SONIA HORNERY to move— That this House: (1) Notes that rail was the major form of transport for attendees at the popular Newcastle "Fat as Butter" concert. (2) Notes that rail provides the most efficient mass people transportation for city events, and had all attendees driven cars to the concert, chaos would have prevailed in the city. (3) Notes proposals by members of conservative groups to abolish the rail line, which would increase commuting by car. (4) Calls on the Minister for Transport to fund improvements to the rail line so as to encourage more rail commuting in the Hunter.

2389 ELECTRICITY PRICE REGULATION MR STEPHEN BROMHEAD to move— That this House: (1) Notes that State energy ministers have praised the Federal Minister for Resources and Energy for his statement that the States are not responsible for big increases in electricity prices on top of the carbon tax. (2) Commends the Minister for Resources and Energy, Special Minister of State and Minister for the Central Coast for his determination to make and implement changes to the electricity industry in New South Wales so as to drive down prices. (3) Condemns the Federal member for Lyne for his advocacy of a Federal takeover of electricity price regulation. (4) Notes that the Federal Minister for Resources and Energy described the member for Lyne as making threats to State governments over energy price regulation.

That this House: (1) Notes that the NRMA and Regional Development Australia, have identified the Glendale Transport Interchange as a New South Wales, Hunter and regional priority. (2) Notes that 11 Hunter councils support the interchange as a major Hunter priority. (3) Notes that the Transport Masterplan does not mention the Glendale Interchange. (4) Urges the Minister for Transport to commit to this vital interchange and fully fund it.

2391 BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MR STEPHEN BROMHEAD to move— That this House: (1) Notes that October is International Breast Cancer Awareness Month and that one in nine women in Australia will develop breast cancer before the age of 85 years. (2) Commends the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation as a grassroots volunteer organisation that works co-operatively with doctors, nurses and other organisations to ensure the community has access to support services and information. (3) Congratulates Heather Kelly for her work in raising funds and awareness of breast cancer in the Great Lakes region.

2392 EDUCATION RESOURCES MS SONIA HORNERY to move— That this House: (1) Notes that the Minister for Education has defended the $1.7 billion cut to school and TAFE systems, including 1,800 jobs "as difficult but necessary". (2) Notes the Report of Infrastructure New South Wales recommends that 90 percent of new public schools entrants be accommodated in existing schools. (3) Cautions the Minister for Education that this recommendation will lead to crumbling public schools with ever-shrinking fields of multi-storey demountables.

2393 FEDERAL MEMBER FOR LYNE MR STEPHEN BROMHEAD to move— That this House: (1) Condemns the Federal member for Lyne for his comments about the lack of standards in the federal parliament. (2) Condemns the Federal member for Lyne for supporting the Federal Government's immigration policy known as the "Malaysian solution" whilst acknowledging that his constituents hold conservative views on illegal immigration and boat people. (3) Condemns the Federal member for Lyne for supporting the retention of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives in the face of evidence that he was a person of poor character and unworthy of holding the office. (4) Notes that former Federal minister Con Sciacca described the hung parliament as bringing out the worst in its members through its reliance on independent members and leading to frustrations. (5) Condemns the Federal member for Lyne for continuing to support a minority government. 2394 GOULBURN POLICE ACADEMY CANCELLED CLASS MS SONIA HORNERY to move— That this House: (1) Notes there will be 300 fewer police graduates due to the September class at the Goulburn Police Academy being cancelled. (2) Recognises there have been more than 100 armed robberies in the Hunter and at least 117 shootings in Sydney to date this year. (3) Calls on the Minister for Police and Emergency Services and Minister for the Hunter to reinstate the cancelled class and increase police numbers in response to these increases in crime.

2395 CHRONIC DISEASE DENTAL SCHEME CLOSURE MR STEPHEN BROMHEAD to move— That this House: (1) Condemns the Federal member for Lyne who voted to cut over $1 billion from Medicare with the closure of the Chronic Disease Dental Scheme. (2) Condemns the Federal member for Lyne whose actions will leave local residents with cancer, heart conditions, diabetes and other chronic diseases on public dental waiting lists for years. (3) Rebukes the Federal member for Lyne whose support for the closure of the Chronic Disease Dental Scheme will leave no scheme in its place until July 2014. (4) Notes that under the Chronic Disease Dental Scheme, dentists in Lyne are able to treat patients, 80 percent of whom were concession card holders. (5) Condemns the Federal member for Lyne for his continued support of the Federal Government.

2396 HUNTER MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES MS SONIA HORNERY to move— That this House notes: (1) The resignation of 21 medical staff from the Hunter New England Mental Health Service in the past 18 months, coinciding with the election of the Government. (2) That frontline staff claim workload is the major contributing factor, as caseloads get out of control. (3) Urges the Minister for Health to immediately increase funding for mental health services in the Hunter, with the employment of more medical staff, and reign in out of control workloads.

2397 UNEMPLOYMENT RATES MR STEPHEN BROMHEAD to move— That this House: (1) Notes that since the election of the Government the official unemployment rates from the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations show a fall from 7.1 percent to 6.4 percent, the lowest rate for more than two and a half years. 7893 BUSINESS PAPER Monday 25 March 2013

(2) Congratulates the Deputy Premier, Minister for Trade and Investment and Minister for Regional Infrastructure and Services for his ongoing work in supporting the growth of jobs on the mid north coast. (3) Condemns the former Government on its inaction in dealing with falling employment rates and for its concentration on the large metropolitan cities and in doing so ignoring the needs of regional cities and towns and its residents.

2398 HUNTER WATER REBATES MS SONIA HORNERY to move— That this House: (1) Notes that Sydney pensioners are eligible for water rebates worth more than double those of their Hunter counterparts. (2) Notes that Hunter pensioners struggle just as much as those in Sydney with rising water bills. (3) Urges the Treasurer to make rebates consistent across the State and not disadvantage regional customers.

2399 EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT DELAYS MS SONIA HORNERY to move— That this House: (1) Notes the recent finding in the Emergency Medical Australasia Journal that five percent of patients in New South Wales are delayed for more than an hour with paramedics in emergency rooms before they are admitted to hospitals. (2) Notes that overcrowding in hospitals is causing the delay. (3) Urges the Minister for Health to acknowledge the problem and to take action to increase funding for the emergency departments of hospitals.

2401 SCHOOL ATTENDANCE MONITORING MS SONIA HORNERY to move— That this House notes: (1) (a) One thousand backroom school staff positions responsible for monitoring attendance will be lost under the Government's education budget cuts, and as a result staff will no longer be able to enforce compulsory school attendance. (b) Jobs will be cut from both home-school liaison officers working with schools and parents to maximise attendance, and front office staff following up with attendance issues.Urges the Minister for Education to stop cutting jobs from schools. 2562 LGBTI POLICE FORUM MR ALEX GREENWICH to move— That this House: (1) Notes that on Tuesday 19 March 2013, the member for Sydney hosted a Police and community forum attended by representatives of Mardi Gras, Acon, New South Wales Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby, Inner City Legal Centre, NSW Police, the Member for Coogee and over 300 members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) community. (2) Notes the community expressed concern about some policing practices during the Mardi Gras Festival 2013. (3) Acknowledges the commitment of the Police Commissioner, Minister for Police, Surry Hills Local Area Command, LGBTI community and all organisations represented at the forum to resolve the concerns.
