The Principal's Message

It is that time of year again when we send out our annual newsletter and celebrate the achievements and talents of our fantastic students. The year has flown by. Our Year 11 and Year 13 students have taken their exams, attended their prom and now have a nervous few weeks awaiting their results. Having seen both year groups preparing and working towards the exams, I am convinced they will do well; they certainly deserve to do so!! Of course our Academy is not all about lessons and exams (although that is our priority naturally enough!). School life has a vibrancy that is borne out of the enthusiasm and talents of our Term Dates students. We have those in abundance at this Academy and I feel very privileged to be its Principal. Just a cursory glance through its pages will convince you, I am sure, that I am right. Wednesday 7th September Our students have worked hard for our school community, our 2016 local community and have even travelled far and wide to engage Start of Autumn Term in adventurous activities with a wide range of others from outside 2016 our Academy. I hope you enjoy reading about our endeavours, experiences, Friday 21st October 2016 achievements, successes and the amazing students that make my job, and the job of all of our staff, teaching and support, so Inset Day worthwhile.

For the first time in the Academy’s history we were Students Challenged In The Round invited to enter the Round Square Schools Adventure Square Adventure Race Race. Students Challenged

For Their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award

Not all students had the week off over the Spring half term, some decided to push themselves and take part in the their penultimate part of completing their Bronze DofE Award. The assessed expedition saw the teams plan a route that took roughly 6 hours to walk per day, organise their own food menus and pack their own kit. The expedition lasted two days and they had to be self-sufficient for the duration. On top of this, each group had to have an aim to complete on the expedition which they will give a presentation on at a later date. At the finish point both teams collapsed and were relieved to find out they had all passed the expedition phase. Kit bags were loaded onto the buses and we headed home. Now getting geographically challenged is not a problem, providing you can find where you actually are and you can find where you need to be. Both teams did this on several occasions and each time they learned from where they went wrong. Well done teams on completing the expedition in very hot conditions.

Students Enjoy Being Hands On At Southwell Minster

28 students from 7C4 and 8C4 visited Southwell Minster accompanied by Mr Fenby, Mrs Rusk and Mrs Hay. The students took part in workshops about the Easter story and how it is celebrated by Christians. They learned about the Stations of the Cross, looked at different types of art in the Minster and re-enacted 'The Last Supper'. Everybody had a great time; the students particularly enjoyed being hands-on outside the classroom and being trusted to handle old and important artefacts.
