CONGRESSMAN DAVE REICHERT, WASHINGTON STATE EIGHTH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT

Congressman Dave Reichert brings over 40 years of public service experience to Washington. Reichert is serving his sixth term as the Representative from the Eighth Congressional District of Washington.

Congressman Reichert serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, with appointments to three subcommittees: Tax Policy, Human Resources, and Trade, of which he is Chairman.

Reichert has a remarkable record of service. Decisive leadership, integrity and tireless dedication are his hallmarks. From 1971 through 1976, Reichert was a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserve. In 1972 Reichert joined the King County Sheriff’s Office and in 1997 he became the first elected sheriff in 30 years. Under his leadership, the county saw a significant drop in violent crime. Reichert brought national recognition to the Sheriff’s Office as head of the Green River Task Force solving the largest seri- al murder case in U.S. history. As Sheriff, Reichert also brought an unprecedented $28 million in federal funding to King County law enforcement efforts.

Dave Reichert was born in Detroit Lakes, , in 1950, the oldest of seven children and grandson of the town marshal. His family moved to Washington State in 1951, living first in Renton and later in Kent, where Reichert attended Kent Meridian High School. He graduated with an A.A. degree from Concordia Lutheran College in Portland, , where he played football and met his wife of 44 years, Julie. The Reicherts currently live in Auburn and have three grown children, Angela, Tabitha and Daniel, and six grandchildren.

SAM KAPLAN, PRESIDENT, GITTES GLOBAL

In 20 years at the Trade Development Alliance of Greater Seattle, the last five as President, Sam was engaged in promoting, connecting and educating the Greater Seattle region internationally for trade and business. At TDA he led the effort to create target markets for the organization which married industry sectors with international markets using data and qualitative analysis. As President of TDA, Sam oversaw the organization of nearly a dozen outbound business and leadership missions, helped lead the Global Cities Initiative, helped organize the successful visit of President Xi Jinping and co-led the effort to create an Inter-national Competitive Strategy for Washington state.

Previously Sam worked as a legislative assistant handling foreign affairs and trade issues for now retired U.S. Representative John Miller. Representative Miller served on the Foreign Affairs Committee and its Subcommittee on International Trade. Sam has been published in the World Bank's Urban Age magazine, as well as in many other publications. He wrote and co-produced the short film about customer service, Please Hold, and is author of the novel, Munsrat Lives. Sam has traveled and worked extensively with Asia and Europe during his long career in international affairs and trade.

Currently, Sam Kaplan runs the international business consulting firm, Gittes Global, which provides business development, communications and community/government affairs services for businesses and organizations. Gittes Global also publishes the weekly newsletter, International Need to Know.
