Guide 2018 www.cornwallhospicecare.co.uk Thank you for picking up this brochure Dear Open Gardens Supporter, “When I’m feeling sad I just think of a few of my Open Gardens 2018 favourite things…” Visiting fabulous, and usually private, gardens opened especially for LAUNCESTON Hospice Care must be up there at the top of my list of favourite things. I never cease to find something different from a novel solution to a gardening problem 13 to a new plant, each garden is a source of inspiration. 4 Generous owners throw open their gates to let us flock in, so a big thank 17 you to every one of them. Gardens have opened for our charity since our oldest adult hospice was conceived in the late 1970s. Mount Edgcumbe is 8 7 9 16 PAR the legacy of a remarkable woman, Enid Dalton-White MBE, whose campaign to raise the funds needed to build the hospice started with her ST AGNES opening up her own garden in the village of Polruan. Today Cornwall’s gardeners help us to keep Enid’s dream alive and in the last six years have 12 raised more than £62,000! 11 5 Gardens are my favourite things, but my favourite people are the staff and 14 3 6 1 FALMOUTH 2 volunteers at Mount Edgcumbe and St Julia’s hospices who go that extra mile for patients and their families. It costs more than £5 million to provide 15 10 the specialist care given by Cornwall Hospice Care staff in the hospices, in Cornwall’s acute hospital and in the community. The lovely garden gems included in this brochure offer a simple, pleasurable way to help bring in Tresithney, Lelant, St Ives 1 Trenarth, Constantine 11 those funds.
