Dear Parishioners,

We now go into a brief period of Ordinary Time or post in the Church Liturgical Cycle. Don’t you worry, will be here soon enough. We begin this period with the continued call of St. John the Baptist to prepare, repent and reform.

St. John the Baptist is the last prophet, and his service to God was to prepare the path for the Lord. In today’s he identifies Jesus as the Lamb of God, which is a reference to His salvific, sacrifice on the cross. The Gospel clearly identifies the sacrificial role that the Lord will embrace as He begins His public ministry.

The first reading today challenges us to listen for the voice of the Lord in our daily life and to respond as Samuel did “speak Lord for your servant is listening”. We hear the call of the Lord in many different ways. The Apostles have begun to respond the Lord’s call. The Scriptures portray a swift and rapid response as they leave their family and friends to follow the Lord’s call. Their conversion and understanding heart and soul took time. Many times, in the Apostles’ early time with the Lord, there were times of doubt confusion and despair. When the Lord accepts St. Peter’s challenge to join Him on the water, Peter initially is able to walk on the water. That is until he takes his eyes off of the Lord and begins to faulter. Keeping our eyes on the Lord is an essential part of listening and following. Once we turn our gaze or believe we can go it alone do we begin to sink and find the demand of faith too great and difficult.

Please note that on the days the School is closed for weather, vacations or times when remote learning will be best practice to keep everyone safe, the Church will be closing when the day shift maintenance workers leave at 4:00 pm. When School is in session the Church will close at 9:00 pm when the night shift workers close up the campus. Please remember ALL groups using the Church must be on the Facility Calendar and every request must be submitted through our Parish Facility Request Form which is found on our Parish website, https://stpathuntington.org/content/EventRegistrationForm.html. Upon completion of your request the group’s represenative will receive an email regarding the event. Groups are responsible to make sure those attending have followed all social distancing regulations. We have a very active parish and this is the most efficient way esure we are all safe and there are no conflicts. Prayer Groups and self-help groups must have clearance from the Pastor and be scheduled on the Parish Calendar. Also, please keep in mind devotions that are personal to you and your spiritualty are personal. As prayer groups and self help groups must have the permission of the Pastor, devotions that one wishes to recite before or after or any other time of the day publicly in the Church must follow the same requirements. In charity one should not force a particular prayer style on the entire congregation but pray their devotions in silence. The Rosary is recited following the 9:00 am Mass publicly Monday through Friday and the is prayed following the 7:15 Mass Monday through Friday. This year we celebrate the Year of Saint Joseph, please look for more information in the bulletin on how we will honor Him.

God Bless and Have a good week

The LORD called to Samuel, and the Lord is for the body; who answered, “Here I am.” Samuel ran to Eli and said, God raised the Lord and will also raise us by his power. “Here I am. You called me.” “I did not call you, “ Eli said. “Go back to sleep.” So he went back to sleep. Again Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? the LORD called Samuel, who rose and went to Eli. “Here But whoever is joined to the Lord becomes one Spirit with I am, “ he said. “You called me.” him. At that time Samuel was not familiar with the LORD, Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, because the LORD had not revealed anything to him as whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? yet. Samuel grew up, and the LORD was with him, Gospel Jn 1:35-42 not permitting any word of his to be without effect. 8 Church of Saint Patrick Huntington, New York YEAR OF SAINT JOSEPH

Prayer to Saint Joseph

To you, O blessed Joseph, do we come in our tribulation, and having implored the help of your most holy Spouse, we confidently invoke your patronage also.

Through that charity which bound you to the Immaculate Virgin Mother of God and through the paternal love with which you embraced the Child Jesus, we humbly beg you graciously to regard the inheritance which Jesus Christ has purchased by his Blood, and with your power and strength to aid us in our necessities. O most watchful guardian of the Holy Family, defend the chosen children of Jesus Christ; O most loving father, ward off from us every contagion of error and corrupting influence; O our most mighty protector, be kind to us and from heaven assist us in our struggle with the power of darkness.

As once you rescued the Child Jesus from deadly peril, so now protect God’s Holy Church from the snares of the enemy and from all adversity; shield, too, each one of us by your constant protection, so that, supported by your example and your aid, we may be able to live piously, to die in holiness, and to obtain eternal happiness in heaven. Amen.

During this Year of Saint Joseph from December 8, 2020 to December 8, 2021—the use of this prayer has been included on any day of the Year but especially on his various feast days or other devotional days dedicated to St. Joseph:

· December 27, 2020, the Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph · March 19, 2021, the Solemnity of Saint Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary · May 1, 2021, the Optional Memorial of Saint Joseph the Worker · the nineteenth day of each month · every Wednesday, the traditional day of the week for devotions to Saint Joseph

Throughout this year we will be printing other prayers and indulgences honoring Saint Joseph.
