Day 1 - Any Uk Station To Dartmouth Via South Devon Steam Railway

Travel from your local station to Paignton on the opening day of your holiday. At Paignton, you change onto the South Devon Steam Railway to take you through the rolling countryside to the small station of Kingswear where you hop onto one of the regular shuttle that cross the to the charming town of Dartmouth. Your home for the next 2 nights is The Ship in Dock Inn (or similar).

Day 2 - Dartmouth

You have a full day today to experience the delights of Dartmouth. An abundance of tea rooms, and restaurants adorn what is both a popular tourist destination as well as a lived-in Devon town. There are National Trust properties around Little Dartmouth and Brownstone to explore, and you could take a stroll along the South West Coastal Path to the west of the town, past Dartmouth Castle. fans will want to take a boat across the river to the beautiful house and gardens of Greenway, the famous novelist’s summer home. The house interior is set in the 1950s, when Agatha and her family would spend summers and Christmases here with friends, relaxing by the river, playing croquet and clock golf, and reading her latest mystery to their guests.

Day 3 - Dartmouth To Looe

Take a boat up the River Dart today to Totnes, where you connect with a train over the Tamar River into Cornwall. The slow trundle over Brunel’s shortly after lets you know that you are on Cornish soil. Following an easy platform-change in you take the picturesque down to the fishing port of Looe. On arrival, check in at the Dolphin Guest House (or similar) for a 2-night stay.

Day 4 - Looe

Today is your day to experience the town of Looe, split into two halves by the river into West Looe and East Looe. East Looe is formed of a grid of narrow streets forming the main business area of the town, packed with many small shops, restaurants and pubs. West Looe spreads west from the bridge and along the river south of the bridge, with hotels and eateries along the waterfront.

Day 5 - Looe To Falmouth

Make your way back up to Liskeard this morning and board a mainline service to the county town of Cornwall, . Here, you make an easy platform-change onto another branch line known as the , following the course of the . On arrival at Falmouth Town station, make your way to the Falmouth Hotel (or similar) for a 2-night stay.

Day 6 - Falmouth

Falmouth is well known for its harbour, which forms part of the third deepest natural harbour in the world, and has been the start or finish point of various round-the-world record-breaking voyages, such as those of Robin Knox-Johnston and Dame Ellen MacArthur. You have not properly visited Falmouth until you have gone up (or down) Jacob’s Ladder, an outdoor stairway in the town that takes your breath away. Day 7 - Falmouth To Penzance

Travel back to Truro on the Maritime Line once again and take a train to the end of the line – Penzance. Watch out of the left-hand windows as the unmistakable shape of St Michael’s Mount comes into view. Check in at The Longboat Inn (or similar) for a 3-night stay, ready to enjoy all the attractions of the tip of Cornwall.

Days 8 & 9 - Penzance

You have two full days to experience this wonderful part of Cornwall. There are plentiful options available to you – perhaps a bus ride to Lands End or the Lizard, a train ride to Ives, a visit to famous St Michael’s Mount (pictured) or you can simply enjoy the charms of England’s most southwesterly town.

Day 10 - Penzance To Your Local Station

Today it’s time to say goodbye to Penzance as you travel east through the county of Cornwall, back through Devon and make your way home.
