Mary Gedaka’s mother (Lisa Angelotti) played for Perretta from 1984-88, and sophomore Sam Carangi’s mother (Jen Snell) was a member of the Villanova team from 1991-96. Angelotti was the 1988 Big East Player of the Year and she cur- rently ranks fifth all-time on the Villanova scoring list with 1,622 points. During the 2017-18 season there were three players on the team whose mothers played for Perretta. Nicolette Juliana’s mother (Denise Lamay) played at Villanova from 1983-85. Juliana played at Villanova from 2016-18.

RED TO BLUE: Two Wildcats who redshirted last year will be on the active roster for the 2019-20 season. Kenzie Gardler and Maddy Siegrist will be redshirt freshmen this season and both are expected to see playing time off the Villanova bench. Siegrist was a two-time All-State honoree at Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. During her senior year in high school, she averaged 32.7 points per game and 13.1 rebounds per con- test. Gardler was a three-time All-Philadelphia Catholic selection and was a 2018 first team All-State honoree. Gardler scored 1,128 career points in high school and helped Cardinal O’Hara to the 2017 and 2018 Catholic League championship. Siegrist has tallied 115 points and 50 rebounds in the first six games, while Gardler has 11 points, six assists and six rebounds.

NATIONAL RECOGNITION: Redshirt freshman Maddy Siegrist was named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) first-ever Tamika Catchings Freshman Player of the Week on Nov. 18.The USBWA weekly honors for Division I women's players will be handed out each Tuesday during this season. As the Big East freshman of the week, Siegrist was nom- inated for the award, which was chosen by Mel Greenberg, the USBWA co- ordinator for women's basketball, primarily from a list of Division I freshmen players of the week.
