Safety culture of a workplace is a key issue for the implementation of the Zero Accident Vision. A safety culture determines how safety practices actually are performed in a workplace, not how they are expressed in the guidelines and regulations. In many cases, the roots of occupational accidents lie in a poor safety culture. The commitment and safety attitude of the whole personnel is important when the goal is zero accidents. Nowadays, the importance of safety is becoming more and more valued in workplaces and in civil society as a whole. Good safety culture has a positive influence on quality, reliability, competence and the productivity of a company, and therefore complying with the Zero Accident Vision represents a competitive advantage for a company. The role of the management in creating good safety culture cannot be under-estimated. Keeping this in mind, 8th webinar in the series was organised on July 24,2020, 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM on the important them of "Zero Incidence and Preventive Culture in the Industry" To support us in this cause we the best in the business from “Carl Duisberg Centren - Training made in Germany” shared their opinions and expertise on the subject.

The Eight Webinar on " Zero Incidence and Preventive Culture in the Industry", was conducted with the help of German Specialists. FICCI’s collaboration with “Carl Duisberg Centren, Germany” for this webinar has added to Chemical & Industrial Disaster Management (CIDM) Board’s efforts in working together for Safety. The Webinar was conducted with the help of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Government of India, Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade (DPIIT), Government of India, National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), Government of India, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM), Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre (ADPC), Bangkok, Gujarat Institute of Disaster Management (GIDM) and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). It was discussed during the webinar that a zero-incident safety culture need to be woven into the very fabric of Industries. Zero-tolerance culture conveys a commitment to the health and well-being of employees and communities in which they operate. A Zero incident culture requires continuous improvement in risk management. There is a need for management to constantly work and identify unsafe acts, hazards and conditions that put employees in danger. Proper strategies need to be implemented to prevent accidents. Top German experts from CDC, Germany shared their expertise, knowledge and vision on the “Zero Incidence Approach”. The detailed presentations made by the German Experts on the subject highlights the key areas, approach, best practices and other critical issues that require special focus for accomplishment of “Zero Incidence” vision. The key speakers from Germany were Mr. Michael Weber, Senior Consultant, Chemical Parks, CDC, Germany and Mr. Helmut Ehnes, ISSA Mining Secretary General; ISSA Trade Technical Secretary; VISION ZERO Steering Committee of ISSA Chairman; VISION ZERO Council of Trainings & Consulting.
Major General M K Bindal, Executive Director, NIDM said that there is a need to create a separate forum only to decide near misses. We need to ensure a zero-incidence type of culture in the Industry. In India it is a great achievement that the number of accidents is very less.

Lt. Gen. (Dr) J R Bhardwaj, Former Member, NDMA said that we need to focus on the high standards of safety and focus on the prevention of even a small disaster. We need to create a culture to discuss various issues of managing any disaster.
Mr. G V V Sarma, IAS, Member Secretary, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Government of India said that till today 1800 MAH have been identified and as per his knowledge a database has been created by MoEF&CC, Government of India. He mentioned that the concern lies about those Industrial Units, which are below the threshold. He also mentioned that there is a need to have proper safety for those units, which deals with chemicals and hazards are no less.
Mr. K R Rao, Sr. Adviser, Economic Advisory Council to The Prime Minister (EAC-PM), Government of India said that Industry would like to achieve safety excellence. So, every industry should strive for zero accidents and that means there is a need for zero tolerance culture for any disaster from top management to the bottom employee.
The meeting was attended by more than 250 Industry delegates which consisted for Safety Department of Industries, Major Hazardous Unit Employees, Academician, PSUs, International Organizations, Not for Profit Organizations.
