Club Phone No Editor Graham Harrington Tennis Manager Gavin Henderson: 07787 568642 01926 492 043 [email protected] [email protected] WBC club closed finals day took place on Saturday 24th June - the weather was good CLUB and the tennis even better. After 6 weeks of matches 10 finals took place in front of over 150 spectators. There were some great FINALS performances - even before the finals’ day began those members who were lucky enough 2017 to see the men’s semi final between Hugh Jaques and Harry Lazell saw one of the best matches played at the club - Hugh winning 6-4 in the 3rd set to set up at final against Marcus Willis. The ladies’ semi final between Kara Biggs and Eva Healey again produced a great 3 set match - Eva winning in the end. On finals day itself just a few of the day’s highlights were Kara and Charlotte Littler’s long 3 set match against Elys & Eva in the ladies doubles, and Harry Lazell and Gez Mcveigh pushing Gavin and Marcus in two close sets in the men’s doubles. Off the court we had a great tea before the trophy presentations, undertaken by our club president John Edwards, followed by a barbeque and then live music and dancing to the Oliver Sean Band. A big thank to Gavin for organising the whole tournament. Given over 140 entries it was no easy task, and also finally to all those who helped on the day in the bar, cafe, and cooking the barbecue.Iit was very much appreciated by all those members and friends who attended.
