He led the Bears to the Calder Cup Playoffs following a 2018-19 regular season record of 43-25-4-4. Under Carbery’s direction, Hershey broke a franchise record by earning standings points in 17 consecutive regular season games. The historic streak lifted Hershey from last place in the AHL in December, to an April playoff berth. Carbery was named the 26th head coach in franchise history on June 26, 2018. South Division The native of Victoria, British Columbia has ties to the Chocolate and White, serving as the head coach and director of hockey operations for Hershey's ECHL affiliate, the South Carolina Stingrays, from 2011-2016. In his five seasons at the helm, Carbery compiled a 207-115-38 record with the Stingrays, making him the all-time winningest coach in South Carolina history. Carbery was the winner of the John Brophy Award as the ECHL’s Coach of the Year in 2014, and was the runner-up for the award in 2015 and 2016. South Carolina qualified for the Kelly Cup Playoffs in each of Carbery’s five seasons as head coach, and he helped guide the Stingrays to a pair of division titles, and Eastern Conference Finals appearances in 2015 and 2016. Carbery’s 2014-15 team registered an ECHL-record 23-game win streak during the regular season and advanced to the 2015 Kelly Cup Finals, falling in seven games to the Allen Americans. In each of the five seasons under Carbery’s direction, the Stingrays improved their point total. Carbery served as the head coach of the OHL's Saginaw Spirit in 2016-17, and also earned a nod as an assistant coach for Team Canada Black in the 2017 U-17 World Hockey Challenge, working with fellow assistant coach and former Hershey enforcer Louis Robitaille. A forward, Carbery had a four-year professional playing career in the Central Hockey League and the ECHL before joining the coaching ranks. The graduate of St. Norbert College served as an alternate captain for South Carolina during his tenure with the club, and helped the Stingrays to a Kelly Cup title in 2009. PATRICK WELLAR - ASSISTANT COACH Patrick Wellar returned to Hershey as an assistant coach ahead of the 2018-19 season after playing parts of six seasons with the Bears from 2008-2014. Wellar, a four- time champion and veteran of nearly 750 professional games as a player, is well-known in Hershey. A former defender, Wellar was a stalwart on Hershey's blue line during his playing career. He was part of Hershey's 2010 Calder Cup Championship team that went 60-17-0-3 in regular season play before ultimately claiming the franchise's 11th title. In total, the Carrot River, Saskatchewan native appeared in 260 games with Hershey, scoring 46 points (7 goals, 39 assists), and posting a +24 rating. He also appeared in 36 playoff contests with the club. Following his departure from Hershey, Wellar served as a player/assistant coach with the ECHL's Utah Grizzlies in 2014-15, and Alaska Aces in 2015-16. Upon his retirement, Wellar moved behind the bench permanently as an assistant coach with the ECHL's Cincinnati Cyclones, guiding the club to a 36-29-6-1 record in 2015-16. He joined the ECHL's Reading Royals for the 2017-18 season in the same capacity, helping the club secure a playoff berth with a 39-24-9-0 record, good for a third place in the North Division. Wellar's return to Hershey also reunited him with head coach Spencer Carbery. Wellar was a teammate of Carbery's for parts of two seasons with Hershey's ECHL affiliate, the South Carolina Stingrays. The duo teamed up to guide the Stingrays to a Kelly Cup title in 2009. In his 12-year playing career, Wellar, a 3rd round selection of the Capitals in 2002, amassed over 300 games in the AHL, making stops in Peoria, Worcester, Toronto, and Hershey. His resume also includes 441 games at the ECHL level, including an All-Star Game appearance in 2005. Wellar is one of just four players to win the Kelly Cup Championship three times. In addition to his title in South Carolina, he was victorious with Alaska in 2006 and Reading in 2013. SCOTT ALLEN - ASSISTANT COACH Scott Allen joined the Hershey Bears as an assistant coach in August 2019. He brings over 20 years of NHL, AHL, and ECHL coaching experience to Hershey. Prior to joining Hershey, Allen most recently served as an assistant coach for the two seasons seasons with the Arizona Coyotes, overseeing the team's defense and penalty kill units. The Coyotes were tied for the top penalty kill unit in the NHL in 2018-19 at 85%, and the team tied for 5th in the NHL in goals against. Allen has additional NHL experience as an assistant coach with Florida (2016-17) and with the New York Islanders (2009-12). The New Bedford, Massachusetts native has vast experience coaching in the AHL, most recently with the Portland Pirates. He started the 2015-16 campaign as an assistant coach, and was promoted to head coach of the Pirates on Jan. 1, 2016, helping guide the club to a playoff berth. In addition to Portland, Allen has worked as an assistant coach with San Antonio (2002-04, 2014-15), Lowell (2004-05), Omaha (2005-07), Quad City (2007-09), Peoria (2012-13), and Chicago (2013-14).

Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips January 4, 2014 Devils-Sabres Preview By Nicolino DiBenedetto Associated Press January 4, 2014 The Buffalo Sabres may own the fewest points in the NHL, but they've hardly resembled the league's worst team lately at home. Ryan Miller has had a hand in that success. Miller will likely be in net looking to win a sixth straight home game, as the Sabres face the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night. Buffalo (11-26-4) not only has the worst record in the league, its average of 1.63 goals ranks last - 0.60 behind Minnesota for 29th. The Sabres fell 4-1 at Minnesota on Thursday, losing their 11th straight on the road. "It's just one of those things where when we're bad, we're bad," interim coach Ted Nolan said. They've been very good at home, however, going 5-0-1 in their last six home games. They're averaging 2.75 goals to win four straight there for the first time since a five-game streak from Feb. 19-March 12, 2012. Miller has been superb at home, compiling a 1.34 goals-against average and .962 save percentage while winning his last five games in Buffalo. He last won six straight there from Nov. 13-Dec. 9, 2010. Miller, named to the U.S. Olympic team earlier this week, may have a chance to equal that run since he's 4-1-1 with a 1.60 GAA and a shutout over his last six home meetings with the Devils (17-17-8).

Buffalo Sabres Daily Press Clips January 13, 2015 Sabres’ McCormick out of hospital after blood clot treatment By Staff Report Associated Press January 12, 2015 BUFFALO, N.Y.
