News from the Mayor Well if this is Global Warming, I will take it. I am getting less tolerable to winter each year anyways ha ha.

With the warmer weather, we draw near completion of another exciting hockey season here in Kerrobert. Very exciting hockey from the Tigers and Rage all the way through Minor Hockey. From the players, coaches, managers, volunteers, staff and of course the fans…very well done on another great season!!! Congratulations to the Ducks Unlimited group here in town on another successful sup- per.

It is unfortunate to report that we are losing 2 more businesses in Kerrobert. Wolseley and Kep Industries.

Wolseley has been in Kerrobert for nearly 2 years. The vast majority of their work is South, East and West of Kindersley and not much by way of North towards Kerrobert. Costs for trucking to haul products from here are proving to be uneconomical. Lower Oil prices are still restricting many projects in our area.

News from the Mayor Kep Industries has been a thriving business in Kerrobert for over 30 years. Erhard Poggemiller and his wife Evelyn not only ran a business, but also raised a family here. Erhard has put forth many years of service in municipal government and on many dif- ferent boards. Erhard and Evelyn have chosen to head out to , closer to children and grandchildren, to enjoy retirement. I would like to thank Erhard for so many years of hard work into this community and wish him and his family the best in the future.

The 2017 SUMA convention has come and gone. Kerrobert took home 3rd place in the Municipal Awards for the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle/Laser Survey.

SUMA was well attended by Mayors and Council from all over the province. We all seem to be in the same boat. Aging water and sewer lines, dilapidated buildings, crum- bling streets and very little money to deal with any of it. Premier Brad Wall made no secrets that everything, as far as cuts, will be on the table. He spoke of the perfect storm of the top 3 sources of revenue in the province which are doing poorly. They are Oil, Uranium and Potash. We are still waiting for the Provincial government to roll out their Budget before we can see where we will be at for our own budget. The Provincial budget is expected to roll out March 22. Council will be working on a few things be- fore that date and then we can see how aggressive we can be following that.

Talk to you again next month. Hopefully things won’t be so gloomy in April.

Mayor Wayne Mock

Wow. Time really does fly when you are having fun!

Its wind down time at the rink over the next few weeks and I’d like to "plant a seed" sort of speak and also to send a lot of thanks. On behalf of the Town of Kerrobert, the Tigers, and the Rage, I'll do the thanks first.

It’s always a challenge to run any organization based in smaller center like ours and provide a product that keeps people interested over a long period and be successful at it every year. We have limited resources to pull from in our area, and both the downturn in the oilfield sector coupled with a very interesting agriculture season that we are cur- rently still in has put donated dollars and time at a premium for the last couple seasons. I feel very proud to see what we have accomplished in the face of the economics at our adopted home for the winter. We completed a much needed renovation to our lobby and bathrooms that changed the way we can entertain in our facility, providing some additional comfort for both old and young. We continue to support both the booth and the lounge tremendously well and keep that source of revenue for our facility at a very high return. Both our community run hockey clubs had great seasons, the leagues were very tight top to bottom, and although we wish we could still be playing in March, I'm happy to see the success and quality that we had this year. All of these projects and clubs required extensive VOLUNTEER time and donated funds in order to be success- ful, and again, we looked after them very well and you should all be commended for that, so for

D’Lux Archery/Hardware PAINT&BODY LTD. Monday to Saturday 9:00—5:30 834-2427 Town of Kerrobert Information what's its worth from my chair I say THANK-YOU!

Now on to next year....All of our organizations are in need of new volunteers in order to keep the juices flowing and to continue to keep these clubs and services strong within our arena framework. Both the Tigers and the Rage have a very small number of active executive members that are in dire need of additions and replacements. There are sever- al within the two boards that would welcome a chance to step back and take a reduced role. They would relish the opportunity to have new blood and new ideas surround the tables in preparation for our next seasons at the rink, myself included. We need to keep these clubs truly community run, if you have time to offer, be it on an executive, or simply with game day help within any of these organizations, please reach to the con- tacts below. You'll be surprised how much you can contribute! Volunteering is not thankless work! I find it more the other way; it is very rewarding, and provides a real opportunity to grow relationships within groups in the community. You can be retired or still in high school and still provide tremendous input to your local arena. Maybe you'd like to work a few shifts in the booth or the lounge to get out to the rink a bit more and see some more people. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to help out selling tickets or merchandise at a Rage or Tiger game? Create a reason to come back to the rink; you don’t need to have kids in hockey to be a part of the fun. Any little bit of time you want to give will be appreciated and will feel great!

The Kinsmen Foundation , provides special needs equipment and access to medical assistance to Saskatchewan residents, groups, & health foundations to improve quality of life and independence.

For individuals, innovations like ceiling track systems, portable lifts & ramps, funded by the Kinsmen Telemiracle Foundation, are making it possible for people to live at home and still receive the care they need. With equipment like specialized wheelchairs, electric scooters, vehicle conversions & communication devices, people are achieving a level of independence they didn’t think possible. When people cannot access the level of care they need at home, they must often travel to health care facilities in other parts of the province or country. And while the medical procedures may be covered by health care, the patients and their families must pay for their own travel, meals, & ac- commodations. By easing the financial strain, the Kinsmen Telemiracle Foundation allows families to focus on what only they can provide – Love & Care.

Funding groups that directly work with people with special needs is also an important focus for the Kinsmen Foundation. Across our province, loving care homes have been established with a family atmosphere to provide comfort & care to people with special needs. Kinsmen Telemiracle Foundation provides funding for things like specialized tubs, lifts, specialty beds, & personal care equipment to make those homes even better suited to provide quality care.

PHONE: 306-834-1100 Custom Powder Coating “We Coat it” A third area of Kinsmen Foundation funding is focused on institutions and health foundations to purchase specialized, new, or innovative equipment to im- prove health care. Over the years, donations of this type have been provided in every corner of the province.

When the Kinsmen Foundation was established in 1971, it granted funds raised by local Kinsmen & Kinnette clubs. It was soon recognized that the requests for assistance far exceed the available funds. To meet the need, planning started in 1976 for a province- wide telethon, a major fundraiser, thus began Telemiracle in Feb. 1977. After the dust settles from the Telemiracle weekend , all donations are turned over to the Kinsmen Foundation Board of Directors, who disperse the funds. Gifts are given to Saskatche- wan people who are in line with our 3 funding priorities – and so our cycle, and com- mitment to helping people every day, continues.

If you or someone you know is in need of such assistance, please contact the Kinsmen Telemiracle Foundation (info below) or feel free to contact a local Kinsmen member to help with the initial sign up process.
