Some of the answers of their team mates are unrepeatable. Steady bowling by Lachlan and Stephen Merry prevented Hertford from taking advantage of the gaps in the field and Cliff Cavener managed to find a fielder, sweeping Lachlan straight to Manoj Parmar at square leg. Cavener made 15 and had been looking in good form. Ricky Ketteridge joined Rob Carter and they took the score to 65 before Ketteridge was given out caught behind by Wynd (A) off Lachlan. Ketteridge had made 27 of the 45 added, Carter was finding runs difficult to come by. Thame's M25 tourists turned up in time to join the match at the start of the eleventh over and the field suddenly looked more crowded. The first 10 overs went for 40 runs, the next ten for just 30. Scott Ruskin made a brief appearance before being run out at the striker's end after joining Carter. 25 overs had gone when Carter was out, trying to clear the short legside boundary but only finding James Cook on the line. Carter's 29 had taken 67 balls, an unusually low strike rate for him. 93 runs were on the board and Hertford needed a lot more off the last 20 if they were to provide a competitive total. Skipper Richard Cordingley set about doing this and and added 79 in 15 overs before Griggs missed one from Stephen Merry. His 43 included four fours and a six. Chris Box did not last long, beaten by a direct hit from Cook. Phil Carlson came to the wicket intent on hitting the ball to all parts, particularly to the short boundary. He cleared it twice in succession off Merry but the bowler had the last word when Carlson missed a straight one. His 24 had come off just 12 balls. Hertford could have done with more of the same. The last over was one of general mayhem, Carlson fell off the second ball, James Hogg got two off his first ball but was then stumped off a wide. Darren Benford was lbw off the next and after another wide Jon Ryan and Richard Cordingley added a single apiece, the latter ended on 45 not out. Merry finished with 4-46. Lachlan, 2-28, and Parmar 1-32, both off 9 overs bowled very tidily. Hertford would have to bowl as well if they were to defend their total of 213. After the tea interval, the sun came out to give a glorious spring evening and Hertford got a dream start when Cliff Cavener bowled James Cook in his first over. C.Wynd joined Manoj Parmar and they proceeded carefully, just 20 runs coming off the first 9 overs from Cavener and Chris Box. Box's sixth over went for 7 runs and he was replaced by Rob Carter. This proved to Parmar's liking, as did the short boundary, and Carter's three overs conceded 37 runs, mostly to Parmar. Cavener continued steadily and his nine overs cost just 19 runs. Switching to spin did slow the run rate down, Scott Ruskin's first over being a maiden, but by now Thame were comfortably in charge. Cordingley rang the changes and it was he who got the break through when Parmar gave him the charge, missed and was bowled. Parmar's 80 off 88 balls, in a partnership of 119 had put Thame in a very strong position. 95 were needed off the last 19 overs. C.Wynd followed shortly after for 35, holing out to Mike Griggs at deep mid-off. However his brother, A.Wynd and James Hewitt carried on the good work addiing 58 for the fourth wicket. Both were severe on Jon Ryan whose three overs went for 23, the short boundary being cleared three times. Chris Box came back into the attack and immediately had Hewitt lbw. There was no more success for Hertford and when Wynd decided to throw the bat, two fours and a bonus of a wide going for four in Box's last over brought the scores level. Two balls later it was all over with Thame worthy winners by six wickets.
