He threw the javelin for 245-2. 50 2012-13 TEXAS TRACK & FIELD • HISTORY/RECORDS TEXAS TRACK & FIELD Longhorns Olympians BY YEAR 2012 LONDON Dylan Armstrong: Competing for Canada, Armstrong finished fifth in the shot put finals with a toss of 68-8 (20.93). He posted a mark of 67- 2.75 (20.49m) on his third and final attempt, which was good for third in the second of two qualifying flights of the prelims. He was seventh among the 12 competitors in the prelims. Marquise Goodwin: A member of the United States team, Goodwin fin- ished 10th in the long jump with a leap of 25-7.25. He needed just one attempt in the qualifying round to reach the finals. Goodwin leapt 26-7.25 (8.11m) in his first-ever attempt in Olympic competition. That was the top mark in Group A and was one of just two automatic qualifiers for the finals. He leapt a career-best 27-4 (8.33m) on his final attempt at the U.S. Olympic Trials to earn a spot on the Olympic Team. Goodwin was the first collegian to win both the Olympic Trials and the NCAA Outdoor long jump competition in the same year since 1960. He was also the first-ever Longhorn to reach the long jump final at the Olympics. Trey Hardee: Competing for the United States, Hardee won a silver med- al in the decathlon, becoming the first Longhorn to medal in the event and seventh to medal at the Olympics. Hardee, who posted 8,671 points, was in second place from wire-to-wire behind fellow Ameri- can Ashton Eaton who was in reach of the Olympic record (8,893 by Roman Sebrle of the Czech Republic in 2004), but still managed an impressive tally of 8,869. Eaton and Hardee became the first Ameri- cans to go one-two in the Olympic decathlon since Milton Campbell and Rafer Johnson in 1956.
