Photos of the holotypes are presented in addition to the penis morphology of the new Mercuria. The map of the sampling area with the type locality and the habitat description are given. (type species) and L. conica (Prévost 1821) from the Middle Eocene (Lutetian) of the Upper Rhine Graben and Paris Basin, respectively. The protoconch microsculpture of L. hartkopfi n. sp. was occasionally preserved and proved to be a variant of the plesiomorphic hydrobioid pattern. The new genus is tentatively placed in Hydrobiidae. Problems in the classi- fication of hydrobioid fossils are discussed, arising from the dearth of distinguishing shell characters. Previous attributions of L. conica to Assiminea or Peringia are shown to be incorrect. The name Paludina conica Férussac 1814, a senior primary homonym of Paludina conica Prévost 1821, and denoting an unidentifiable hydrobioid, threatens the validity of the nameLutetiella conica (Prévost 1821) and should be suppressed. -

Foto: IDENTIFICACIÓN Se trata de un caracol acuático de agua dulce con concha diminuta, más ancha que alta (alrededor de 1 mm de anchura), de color pardo, redondeada, dextrógira, con la abertura ovalada y un amplio om- bligo. El opérculo es transparente y ligeramente amarillento en su núcleo central. La cabeza está lige- ramente pigmentada o puede carecer por completo de pigmento. El sistema genital de las hembras pre- senta una pequeña bursa copulatriz y dos receptáculos seminales. Las hembras poseen un pseudopene en la mitad derecha de la cabeza, más pequeño pero similar en forma y posición al pene masculino, un fenómeno denominado pseudohermafroditismo. El pene del macho posee un lóbulo pequeño en posición media de su longitud. Para una correcta identificación véase Arconada y Ramos, 2002. ÁREA DE DISTRIBUCIÓN Se trata de un endemismo de la Península Ibérica, que sólo estaba identificada en una única localidad de la provincia de Cuenca: Yémeda. En el año 1990 se descubrió una población en Castellón que ha sido recientemente identificada como perteneciente también a esta especie (Arconada y Ramos, 2002). The catalogue of type specimens of molluscs of the Museu de Ciències Naturals de Barcelona, published in 2008, is updated with new material corresponding to 42 species and subspecies of continental molluscs from the Iberian peninsula, the Balearic Islands, and the Canary Islands. Most of these type specimens belong to historical collec- tions of the museum or are part of the malacological collection of Miquel Bech, donated in 2009. Information provided includes the type category, number of specimens, geographic provenance, type specimens housed at other institutions, and current taxonomical status, together with supporting texts of nomenclatures if pertinent. The catalogue also includes a brief gallery of photographs of types per taxon. Vol. 14(3): 99–168 MOLECULAR PHYLOGENY, SYSTEMATICS AND MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTER EVOLUTION IN THE BALKAN RISSOOIDEA (CAENOGASTROPODA) MAGDALENA SZAROWSKA Department of Malacology, Institute of Zoology, Jagiellonian University, Ingardena 6, 30-060 Kraków, Poland (e-mail: [email protected]) ABSTRACT: Morphological characters in 33 Balkan rissooid genera (Adriohydrobia, Adrioinsulana, Alzoniella, Anagastina, Belgrandiella, Bithynia, Boleana, Bythinella, Bythiospeum, Daphniola, Dianella, Emmericia, Graecorientalia, Graziana, Grossuana, Hauffenia, Heleobia, Horatia, Hydrobia, Islamia, Lithoglyphus, Litthabitella, Marstoniopsis, Orientalina, Paladilhiopsis, Parabythinella, Pontobelgrandiella, Pseudamnicola, Pseudobithynia, Pyrgula, Sadleriana, Trichonia, Ventrosia) are discussed and illustrated based on the literature and, where necessary, on the presented additional data. These include shell macrocharacters, protoconch sculpture, soft part morphol- ogy and pigmentation, radulae, stomach, female reproductive organs, male reproductive organs. Based on partial sequences of the ribosomal 18S RNA gene, a molecular phylogeny is presented for all the genera, and based on fragments of CO1 gene in mitochondrial DNA, for all except six genera. Based on the Adams con- sensus tree the two gene phylogenies are summarised and systematics of the group is proposed. Adrioinsulana is considered a junior synonym of Pseudamnicola; Parabythinella a junior synonym of Marstoniopsis; a new name: Radomaniola n. gen. is proposed as a replacement name for the preoccupied -
An Annotated List of the Non-Marine Mollusca of Britain and Ireland
JOURNAL OF CONCHOLOGY (2005), VOL.38, NO .6 607 AN ANNOTATED LIST OF THE NON-MARINE MOLLUSCA OF BRITAIN AND IRELAND ROY ANDERSON1 Abstract An updated nomenclatural list of the non-marine Mollusca of the Britain and Ireland is provided. This updates all previous lists and revises nomenclature and classification in the context of recent changes and of new European lists, including the Clecom List. Cases are made for the usage of names in the List by means of annotations. The List will provide a basis for the future census and cataloguing of the fauna of Britain and Ireland. INTRODUCTION There has been a need for some time to modernise the list of non-marine Mollusca for Britain and Ireland, a subject last visited in this journal in 1976 (Waldén 1976; Kerney 1976). Many of the changes that have appeared in the literature since then are contentious and Kerney (1999) chose not to incorporate many of these into the latest atlas of non-marine Mollusca of Britain and Ireland. A new European List, the Clecom List (Falkner et al. 2001) has now appeared and it seems appropriate to examine in more detail constituent changes which might affect the British and Irish faunas. This is given additional urgency by the inception of a new census of the molluscs of Britain and Ireland by the Conchological Society. Recorders in the Society are aware of many of the proposed changes but unable to implement them without general agreement. In addition, many field malacologists make use of the recording package RECORDER, a recent form of which has been developed jointly by JNCC and the National Biodiversity Network in the United Kingdom. -
