To match with this innumerable orthodox senseless traditions and rituals are blindly followed by most of the Indians. In fact, the whole edifice of the Indian society and its culture is founded on these constructs. The psyche of the people does not allow them to examine any custom or tradition or happening and verify its utility, validity and legitimacy. For them, the age old customs, rituals and traditions, started by their wise forefathers are sacrosanct and beyond any criticism, leave alone any change.

  • RESOLUTION on INDIA the State of Freedom of Expression in India
RESOLUTION ON INDIA The state of freedom of expression in India continues to deteriorate. Writers who voice dissenting viewpoints continue to be at risk for harassment and murder, and India’s defamation laws continue to be exploited by self-interested parties to prevent the publication of material that may well be in the public interest. A culture of intolerance linked to an emerging nationalist discourse and a rise in vigilantism - which PEN International identified in its 2015 and 2016 reports on freedom of expression in the country, and reiterated in its submission to the 27th session of the Working Group of the Universal Periodic Review – continues to grow. The low-cost of initiating defamation proceedings in the courts, combined with an expectation of impunity for attacks carried out against writers, intimidate critical voices into silence and result in a chill on freedom of expression. In the past six weeks alone, three incidents have demonstrated the dire state of freedom of expression in the country: MURDER: On 5 September 2017, Gauri Lankesh, a senior journalist and editor of the weekly Kannada-language tabloid Gauri Lankesh Patrike, was shot dead in front of her home in Bengaluru, Karnataka state. Lankesh, aged 55, was an outspoken critic of communalism and caste-based discrimination in her writing, and a champion of progressive causes, such as supporting student movements. To date there have been no arrests in the case, and the murderers remain at large. At least 16 writers or print journalists have been killed in India since 2013. Lankesh’s murder follows three similar recent murders – of scholar M M Kalburgi, rationalist Narendra Dabholkar, and activist Govind Pansare – which have remained unsolved, and which led to 39 Indian writers and artists returning awards from India’s Sahitya Akademi (Literature Academy) in protest against the Academy’s silence and governmental inaction, and more than 130 writers, artists and filmmakers returning other accolades.

  • Pre-Historic Period in India
CHAPTER -I PRE-HISTORIC PERIOD IN INDIA First Phase of Primitive Communist Society (Stage of Savagery) Primitive Communist Society, Food Gathering and Hunting (From 40,000 BC to 3000 BC). This period can also be called as Palaeolithic and Middle Stone Ages. During this period, people used to eke out their living through hunting by using stone tools and particularly, bow and arrow. Throughout this entire phase, food gathering and hunting used to be the main occupations and society was in primitive communist stage. Advanced Phase of Primitive Communist Society (Stage of Barbarism) Primitive Communist Society, Domestication of Livestock and Primitive Agriculture (From 3000 BC to 600 BC). This Period can be termed as Neolithic, copper and bronze ages. This transformed into civilised society as the usage of iron developed. Though domestication of animals on the basis of primitive cultivation began in some places, both food gathering and hunting continued extensively in other parts. Archaeological evidence shows that similar developments took place till around 2500 B.C. both in North and South India also and it had trade relations with the Indus Civilization by the time bronze age culture developed in the Indus valley (2500 B.C.). However, in South India, primitive agriculture was important than livestock rearing. The Indus Valley Civilisation Class society based on primitive agriculture, industry and trade with far off places (From 2500 BC to 1800 BC). This Bronze age civilisation lasted a few hundred years but declined by the time of the entry of Aryans mainly due to the internal contradictions. The Aryans hastened its decline.

  • Modern Indian Business History: a Bibliographic Survey
Modern Indian Business History: A Bibliographic Survey N. Benjamin and Prabhash Narayana Rath Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics Pune 411004. Abstract Business history has been a neglected area in both Economics and History due to various reasons. However, some scholars have attempted to write books on business history basing upon whatever material they could lay their hands on, whereas some others have written individual corporate histories, which are usually sympathetic accounts of the perspective corporate houses and are of restricted circulation. Realising the importance of business history accounts for proper understanding of the overall business and economic scenario of India, an attempt has been made to present a bibliographic survey of business history books in English language pertaining to the colonial and modern period. The paper aimed at presenting a comprehensive account of the books of the following types: viz. general business histories; industrial histories; in-house histories of different companies; souvenirs of the various chambers of commerce and industry; histories of the business houses; accounts of the business communities; and biographies and autobiographies of the businessmen. In the study, more than 550 books have been covered under eight sections each representing one of the above-mentioned types of business histories. Business History has been a neglected area in both Economics and History. One reason for this has been the dearth of source material. Many businessmen like Naval H. Tata willed that their papers be torn to pieces and burned after they passed away. Corporate managements have also allowed the papers to be destroyed rather than preserved once a monograph or book was written based on them.

The killing shocked the naon, but more rude shocks came when several similar murders were commied over the next several years. Govind Pansare, who worked to support inter-caste marriages, delivered lecture on the true legacy of Shivaji, and condemned the glorificaon of the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi, was killed in 2015. M.M.Kalburgi, a scholar who studied socio-religious reform movements of the 12th century in Karnataka and the related https://aipsn.in/ 1/15 8/18/2018 Home Page | aspin challenge to dominant narraves, was murdered in 2016. And Gauri Lankesh, fearless journalist and fierce cric of communal bigotry, was gunned down in 2017. It has now come to light that at least some of these murders were probably commied by the same extremist group. But the common thread definitely was the threat these forces felt from these campaigners for reason and scienfic temper, and against bigotry and intolerance. These murders are extremist expressions of the intolerance openly displayed by some mainstream communal forces, including persons holding high polical office, targeng somemes with violence all those who queson their prejudice, communal hate campaigns, and connuous disseminaon of fake news, “alternave facts” and falsified histories, including in science.

*The 21 principles of the Swatantra Party and the full text of Rajaji's statement that appeared in the Party's very first publication in 1959 titled “Towards Doom”, is available on our website www.freedomfirst.in. Freedom First Between Ourselves… The Liberal Magazine Mr. J. Nehru was clear that a free economy would take the country to 62nd Year of Publication its doom. Rajaji took the other view – too much government would take us Number 556 – October 2013 towards doom. • The Dilemmas and Challenges Faced by the Rationalist Indian
ISSN (Online) - 2349-8846 The Dilemmas and Challenges faced by the Rationalist Indian T V VENKATESWARAN Vol. 48, Issue No. 36, 07 Sep, 2013 The murder of the anti-superstition crusader Narendra Dabholkar points to the society’s intolerance of criticism against religious beliefs and practices. The rampant misuse of Section 295A of the Indian penal code, which penalises “deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings”, needs to be curbed. Unless space is provided for constructive and rational criticism, social reforms to stamp out regressive and evil practices cannot be undertaken. The murder of renowned rationalist Narendra Dabholkar on the streets of Pune on 20 August, 2013, was a wake-up call for the nation. While out on his morning walk, two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle fired at him from close range near the Omkareshwar bridge. As the news of his gruesome murder spread, spontaneous demonstrations took place across Maharashtra. In his home town Satara, thousands came out to pay tribute to this leading light of the anti-superstition movement who had taken on many a self-appointed godmen. The all-party bandh called the next day was near complete with willing participants closing their businesses and shops. The chilling effect of the premeditated murder reverberated throughout the state. Witnessing the public outrage, the state cabinet hastily promulgated an anti-superstition ordinance based on the “Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman Evil Practices and Black Magic Bill”. Dhabolkar had been relentlessly campaigning for the adoption of this bill, which has been languishing in the assembly for many years.
