Franklin Takes Homer Lead: 19-year-old shortstop Nick Franklin drove home the game-winning run on Sunday (a 3-0 win in Lansing) with an RBI double in the fourth, his 15 th double and 45 th RBI of the season. Last Wednesday (7/21), Franklin lifted his 18 th HR of the year as part of a 2-for-4 game at Dow Diamond in Great Lakes, tying himself with former Loons slugger Jerry Sands for the league lead in home runs. Seattle’s first-round pick (27 th overall) in 2009, Franklin has clubbed four HR in his last 15 games and is now just four clouts shy of tying the Clinton franchise record of 22 , set by Dick Kenworthy of the 1961 Clinton C-Sox….he’s currently tied for 10 th in club history alongside Joseph G. James (1990 Clinton Giants) and Mitch Moreland (2008 LumberKings). You’ve Been Eras’d: Ace right-hander Erasmo Ramirez combined on his first shutout of the year on Sunday, tying a season-high with 8.0 innings in a 3-0 win at Lansing. The 20-year-old Rivas, Nicaragua native also worked 8.0 innings in a no-decision at Kane County on 5/29, giving up a solo HR to Kent Walton for his only run allowed in an eventual 5- 3 Clinton win. Seattle’s Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2009 (11-1, 0.51 in the VSL) and a 2010 MWL All-Star, Ramirez is amongst league leaders in lowest walks per 9.0 IP for starters (2 nd at 1.15), fewest baserunners per 9.0 IP for starters (2 nd at 10.09), WHIP (3 rd at 1.01), ERA (4 rd at 2.67) and innings pitched (T-12 th with 104.1) . 20-year-old right-hander Erasmo Ramirez (7-4, 2.67) makes his 19 th appearance, 16 th start in the opener of a three-game series at Wisconsin tomorrow night. Ramirez had his best start of 2010 his last time out at Lansing on 7/25 as he scattered five hits, walked one and struck out three over 8.0 innings and combined with Brandon Josselyn on a 3-0 shutout win. A Midwest League All-Star this season, Ramirez is fourth in the league in ERA at 2.67. He’ll face the Timber Rattlers and a Milwaukee Brewers’ affiliate for the second time tomorrow…he tossed 7.0 innings in a no-decision on 6/17, yielding two runs (one earned) on eight hits while striking out six in an eventual 3-2 walk-off win over the Rattlers.
