The culturally responsive, closed-loop referral system that coordinates, tracks, and responds to the self-identified social needs of vulnerable families in Dane County, with a specific focus on reducing racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic disparities in well-being. Title: Evaluation of Wisconsin’s Title V State Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) Program Source: U.S. Administration for Children & Families, via Wisconsin Department of Health Services Summary: This grant supports independent monitoring and evaluation of positive youth development programs administered through Wisconsin’s implementation of the federal SRAE program. In concert with our co-occurring evaluation of Wisconsin’s Adolescent Health Program and Adolescent Health Systems Building Initiative, this evaluation incorporates comparative effectiveness evaluation of comprehensive vs risk-avoidance approaches to adolescent sexual education and positive youth development. Title: Healthy Black Families Dane County Source: Wisconsin Partnership Program, Community Impact Grant Summary: The Dane County Health Council will develop a model of care coordination aimed at reducing disparities in African American birth outcomes by improving how health systems and social services engage with African American families. The initiative will focus on four priorities: implement a universal risk screener; support leadership by Black families; train community health workers and doulas to partner with health system care teams; and coordinate clinical and community referrals and resources. The initiative’s long-term goal is to eliminate racial disparities in infant mortality and low birthweight as well as support overall family well-being. Title: Evaluation of the National Children's Center for Rural and Agricultural Health and Safety (NCCRAHS) Source: National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) (U54) . Summary: The goal of the Evaluation Core at the NCCRAHS is to guide documentation and analysis of the success of the center and its projects in achieving objectives for research, education, and public service. Evaluation data provide empirically-driven feedback to guide decision-making, policy formulation, and improvements at the center, all of which are dedicated to improving the safety and health of children who live on, work for, or visit agricultural settings. Title: The Wisconsin Obesity Prevention Initiative Source: Wisconsin Partnership Program Summary: This initiative used a multi-faceted approach – including community-based research, outreach, surveillance and dissemination – to impact childhood obesity in Wisconsin. It sought to support and expand the Wisconsin Obesity Prevention Network and to implement pilot/feasibility studies using local, multi-level, comprehensive community interventions. The initiative developed a comprehensive, statewide obesity surveillance system and created outreach and community engagement that included state and local public messaging and dissemination of evidence-based solutions to obesity. Title: Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health Source: NIH/NICHD/OWHR (K12) Summary: The Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health (BIRCWH) Scholars Program at the University of Wisconsin has two linked goals which are: 1) to increase the diversity of academic leaders in the field of women’s health; and 2) to promote research to reduce existing disparities in health status and health outcomes in diverse populations of women. The BIRCWH research fellowship program provides training, protected research time, and intensive mentoring to young faculty who show promise as future leaders of academic medicine and whose research agendas show promise in promoting women’s health and reducing health disparities.
