Highlights that come to mind was the quality of the fish presented to our Weigh Master, Lloyd, no fish in plastic bags and a great bream of over 1kg to get the heaviest bream. Saturday was a little disappointing with limited fishers due to the unfriendly weather. Sunday was a much better day with lots of parents and children attending. All in all, a great weekend with lots of support and camaraderie. We hope to see a bigger and better event in January 2017.

16 HAVE A LAUGH ON US..... When my sister needed information for a school project on England, my usually honest father decided that a little white lie was in order. He called into the local travel agency and told an elaborate story about taking his wife on a trip to England and requiring information on places to visit. Everything went fine until he asked for a poster - the item my sister needed the most. “I’m sorry, sir” the woman replied. “We usually reserve posters for students doing school projects.”

17 Environmental Tip THE WONDERS OF VINEGAR – IT'S WORTH A TRY ■■ Do you feel like all that mopping isn't quite doing the trick? Sometimes a mopped floor will dry with a film that completely dulls its luster. If you mop it again with water and about a cup or so of white vinegar, your floor will glisten. ■■ To get rid of calcium deposits from the inside of a narrow necked vase, combine some white vinegar and uncooked rice in the vase. Swish them around vigorously, and then pour them out and wash the vase as usual.

23 BAY & BASIN COMMUNITY RESOURCES (BBCR) BBCR Community Radio 92.7FM Farewells a Legend

BBCR volunteers and staff

BBCR hosted a farewell BBQ lunch in January in honour of one of the stations great broadcasters John Summers who is relocating to live in Maclean NSW on the Clarence River. John has presented in excess of 2,500 "Yesterdays Heroes" shows on Bay & Basin 92.7FM and started with the station back in 2002. It goes without saying that John has played an integral role in supporting the radio, championing to the masses over his 14 year stint with the station. He has been a staunch supporter of the annual Code C Charity Fundraiser, Vietnam Veterans Golf Day and attended over 80 outside broadcasts with the station. John’s musical knowledge is outstanding having worked in the Australian music industry for RCA records and others alike for many years. He would always turn up each week with a song list generated from songs requested by his good friends, always honouring those requests even if it meant the station had to try and source the original track from the vault! We have had many laughs and great memories at the station and he has been pivotal in spreading the word of Bay & Basin community radio to the local community we serve! On behalf of the Board, CEO, staff and volunteers we would like to thank John for his hard work and dedication to the station. To show the organisations appreciation for the many years of broadcasting, John received a sterling silver parker pen and pencil set and a pair of AKG professional studio headphones. These items will no doubt assist John to continue with his passion for broadcasting as he has his sights set on Maclean village radio 87.6FM and Yamba FM! We wish him the very best, as John would say at the end of each program "Until we meet again, take care". BBCR is supported by a pool of volunteers who contribute in various meaningful roles. So why not come and join a great team, Find out Brad Slaughter (92.7FM Station Manager) more by contacting our offices on 444 37681/ John Summers and Sue Clifton (BBCR CEO) 4443 3434 or visit www.bbcri.com.au. 24 Stay closer to everything you love about the basin with our latest release New stage under construction - completion mid 2016.

Jervis Bay & St Georges Basin E: [email protected] ph: 4441 5747 Inaugural Charity Golf Day & Auction

Recently Sanctuary Point Community Bank® organised and ran a Charity Golf Day and Auction to raise funds for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) NSW. MND NSW is a charitable organisation that looks after the needs of MND suffers and their families in NSW. The day was a resounding success thanks to the assistance of the St Georges Basin Country Club who were the banks joint major sponsor for the event, along with some 25 other minor sponsors and many businesses who contributed items to the auction which were local Bay & Basin and Shoalhaven businesses.

(photo L to R Kerry Welsh (CRM Bendigo Bank), Ben Duncan (Supervisor SGB Club), Graham Opie (CEO MND NSW) & Keith Robinson (Manager Bendigo Bank)

Thank you to St Georges Basin Country Club and all our other sponsors and contributors for making the day a huge success. On the day we had 108 golfers play (a full field), the auction had some 100 items go under the hammer making the whole day an outstanding success, the total money raised was $14,000 a fantastic result for our first try at this sort of event. We intend to make this an annual charity fundraising event, so pencil this in for around mid-December 2016, everyone who played or was involved in the day said they really enjoyed the day, so why not join us next year and help raise some funds for a worthwhile charity. Next year will be a different charity, but will be a charity that helps people in NSW and our local area. MND Golf Day Sponsor Acknowledgements

You must have some excellent pots.” My husband Mike and I had several stressful months of financial difficulties. One evening, I was touched to see him gazing at the diamond wedding ring that symbolised our marriage. “With this…...” I began romantically. “We could pay off our Visa card,” he responded.

Operations such as a medical transfer in the dark require precision navigation and manoeuvring. The crew members on board Jervis Bay 40 deserve recognition for their skill and experience in successfully completing this operation”.
