2018 | ANNUAL REPORT

CREATING COMMUNITIES OF SUPPORT

This year, we proudly celebrated 98 years of serving children, youth and adults with special needs and developmental disabilities. This incredible accomplishment is made possible by the dedication of our donors, staff, board of directors, advisory council members, volunteers, corporate and community partners, and the Gatepath Auxiliary.

Thanks to your generosity, Gatepath has been able to adapt and thrive in an ever- changing landscape. Despite more than $1.1 billion in budget cuts to ’s developmental disabilities system in recent years, through your support, we have remained nimble, even expanding our reach to more underserved communities on the Peninsula. Gatepath now has locations in Daly City, South San Francisco, Burlingame, Half Moon Bay, Redwood City, East Palo Alto, Mountain View, and Sunnyvale. This allows us to reach nearly 1,000 people every day! We are continuously innovating and evolving to meet our community’s needs through new, high quality programs and services.

As we look ahead to our 100th anniversary in 2020, I’m grateful for your commitment to our mission and those we serve. Together, we are creating a world where people of all abilities are fully accepted, respected and included.

With gratitude,

Bryan Neider CEO

He lights up when he enters the motor room, which features a ball pit, balance beams, and an indoor play structure. Through these activities, Anthony has improved his coordination, learned to walk, and increased his communication using sign language. In class, he has learned to listen to teachers and participate during circle time. With Anthony receiving a total of six services each week, his family is extremely busy and dedicated to supporting Anthony’s development. They are grateful for the care and commitment from our bilingual therapists and family support services staff who have contributed to Anthony’s progress. CHILDREN & FAMILIES

After completing her first year, she earned a wonderful affirmation – she made the Dean’s List! Nela was incredibly happy and felt a growing confidence in her pursuit of an associate’s degree.

Nela excelled in English classes that required reading complex fiction and non-fiction and crafting essays. Adaptive Physical Education classes renewed her interest in health, and she lost ten pounds! Gatepath’s CollegePath coaches supported Nela in developing her reading, writing and computer skills, and also helped with class schedules and accessing services on campus like the Writing Center, the Disability Resource Center, and the Child Development Center, where she volunteered twice a week. Nela is thriving as a college student and excited about her second year. When she graduates, Nela aspires to work with adults with disabilities. YOUTH & YOUNG ADULTS

She quickly mastered her new responsibilities, including maintaining the storefront, making coffee and greeting customers. The store owner remarked that, in a short time, Annett surpassed many other people who have been in the position. They’ve been so impressed with her work that the bakery has also hired an intern through Gatepath’s employment program.
