To make milk and milk products as per international standards, milk having high quality need to be procured right from the village level; so Union has commenced “Bulk Chilling Units” having different capacities to facilitate chilling at the place of production, Which has helped to improve quality of milk; and, milk of two three times can be brought by single trip as per suitability of time, and also society can collect milk at their desired time and preserve milk by chilling. Immediate cooling of the milk leads to stop the growth of the micro organism. So, dairy gets about 70% of milk having MBRT of 4 – 5 hours due to which we could be able to supply high quality milk in the market.

8 7.2 (C) CLEAN MILK PRODUCTION : Milk is one of the food commodity and there can be adverse effect on its quality if proper care is not taken during production, procurement and transit. Milk is a raw material, and from it milk and milk products like Ghee, Powder, Butter, Paneer, Curd, Buttermilk, sweets etc are being manufactured. Quality of all products depends on process and raw material. If raw material has good quality, then nished product will have better quality. Strategy like cleanliness of milch animals, healthy animal, cattle care and personal hygiene of milking person, cleanliness of milking place and cattle-shed, cleanliness of milking vessel and utensils of milk collection at the society and responsibility lies with producers for speedy and time bound follow-ups of all activities right from the point of milk production by milch-animals. Whereas responsibility of cleanliness of milk collection point, cleanliness of milk utensils, cleanliness of BCU center and maintain timely and careful transit of milk to the Union/chilling centre lies with directors of the society. The processing of milk at the Union becomes speedy and easy due to good quality milk, thus quality milk and milk products can be supplied to customers. As milk is the best food for us likewise it is also best food for micro organisms. They multiply very fast in the milk and spoil the milk quality within a short period. Contamination and growth of microorganism in milk can be controlled by getting knowledge by members regarding CMP. To encourage clean milk production Sumul had started to give 10 paise per litre as incentive to the milk having 15 lac or less bacterial load and 5 paise per litre to the milk having 16 – 30 lac bacterial load all depends on the number of bacterial load found in the milk transit from BCU to union from July; 07. To improve more quality of the milk depends on number of bacteria 20 paise per litre or 10 paise per litre being given since October, 2013 to encourage.

Mineral content in soil has its effect on fodder and lastly on health of milch animals and milk production. In order to maintain animal in good health, we have supplemented mineral mixture in cattle feed to overcome mineral deciency. Keeping mineral mixture deciencies issues in mind, mineral mixture powder plant at Chalthan have been made operational. We have supplied 68,127 Kg chelated mineral mixture to milk co-operatives.

To eliminate fertility problems in animals due to mineral deciency, “Sumul Ferticare gold Plus” powder enriched with bypass fat and chelated minerals is being produced by sumul dairy and being arranged to sell at society level . Sumineral forte Plus, Sumul Ferticare Gold, Sumul Milk Shakti powder, Calcium pellets and Sumul Krumi Nashak Dan are sold from the Chalthan centre.

Generally, during monsoon season, more number of milch animals gets infested with worm infestation. Keeping this issue in mind, we have manufactured balanced cattle feed fortied with adequate dose of Anathelmetic (De wormer) drugs and packet of 500 gm of the same supplied to the respective societies.

In order to see continuation of the income, Union is supporting insurance scheme of animals. Under this scheme, 13985 animals were covered under 2081 policies. Necessary premium was paid to Insurance rm; and getting upon approval of 1215 insurance claims, amount of Rs. 4, 61, 70, 500.00 have been paid to members.

In addition under “Janta Accident Policy” 1085 members are being covered under insurance.

9.9 CALF REARING AT SUMUL ANIMAL BREEDING CENTRE AT VANSKUI :

Population of adult female animals in our district accounted through A.I. ranges 30 to 35%, and, through natural service ranges 70-75% by cow bulls/buffalo bulls having very poor hereditary characteristics, which can possess genetic diseases too. Progeny born though such natural services are very pathetic whose milk yielding capacity is very low. Such animals are not affordable in the comming time.

With the objective to develop cow bulls and buffalo bulls possessing nest characteristics for such natural service, a Breeding Center has been established at Vanskui of Mahuva taluka.

16 Under DIPA (Progeny Testing) programme, cow- heifers/buffalo-heifers possessing nest hereditary characteristics are tested for contagious diseases and genetic diseases. And those which have clean record, will be brought to the center and nurtured with scientic techniques; and then will be allotted to areas where A.I. is least acknowledged.

In future, nest bulls will be produced through bulls provided from our Vanskui center which will have unparalleled characteristics as that of A.I. This year, we have provided 260 cow bulls/buffalo bulls in different areas. At present 26 HF males/buffalo bull and 11 Gir males are being reared.

With an intension that heifers with high pedigree and Sumul genetics characters produced by PT Project, Sumul AI, Nominated mating and heifers produced through the Cow/Buffalo bulls should not be sold out from our district and such pedigree could be saved for our milk producers we have started Cow/buffalo heifer rearing centre at “SV – ABC “ at Vanskui Taluka – Mahuva in which such heifers are purchased from milk producer who wants to sell or milk producer who is unable to rear are reared at the centre and given to our milk producer only. Till the time 1998 and during the year 265 such pregnant heifers are being distributed in the district.

As per the Indian ancient culture and Vedas who is called mother and whose milk is being called Amrit that the Gir Heifer and Gir cows, which is high prole, whose milk is good for the health and contains A2 type milk protein which are useful in the fatal diseases like Cancer, Diabetes, Asthama, Blood pressure, TB and Various skin diseases are being reared over here and distributed as per need to the members of the villages of Sumul Milk shed area.

At Green Energy centre a Biogas plant of 60 Cubic metre is being run by the dung of cattle by which gas is produced and with the help of such gas a three phase electricity power is being produced by using bio gas supporting generator. This power is converted in single phase with the help of inverter by which we operate a hydroponics machine and this system produces about 400 kilo high quality industrial green grass. From bio gas slurry wormi compost fertilizer is being produced. During the year total 2647 bags such fertilizer and 232 kilo of earth worms and 24495 litres urine of gir cow are sold out. From this centre 1218 members get trained a day training under Atma project and more than 11200 members from various milk societies for touring were being taken to our farm visit.

11. Quality Control, Quality assurance and ISO system : To execute chemical analysis of milk at Sumul Dairy and chilling centres laboratories are made with advanced equippments, total 6 milko scan (FT 120) and 6 indifos machine, one advance milko scan (FT 1) which are able to give information regarding adulteration in milk and two milko scan minor machines are being activated at the laboratories of the union. To estimate the bacterial count in the milk, a well advanced high tech Bacto scan machine is being activated at the main laboratory of the union.

At Sumul Dairy, Surat advanced RTPCR machine is there for the test of A1 and A2 protein.

At the main laboratory, all chilling centre laboratories and at Lahe plant B. R. digital machine being given which are useful to check the quality of the fat of the milk.

By these all advanced machines we can check our all tests perfectly and who adulterates milk just for little benet can also be detected successfully. As per Government of India, new food safety norms and under that if some chemical or biological defect detected in the samples taken by them will lead to Ignominy Or disgrace to the union reputation. To avoid such we all at every level, eld and by team work for food safety and quality by constant efforts.

By following ISI system we could make noticeable improvement in the milk quality. During the year an improvement can be seen in the acidity of the milk from rural area.

20 11. (A) Quality management System : (ISO: 9001: 2008)

To get step matched with the international level rules of Food safety, our union had been possessing the certicate of ISO 9002:1994 and codex HACCP- 9000 since the year of 2000. In the year 2003 it had been upgraded ISO standard to 9001: 2000 and we made our quality management system advanced as per that standard. Sumul Dairy, Surat and Lahe plant to gather certied with ISO: 9001: 2008 in the year 2008.

To maintain quality, it is necessary to be alert for cattle care, BCU, chilling centre, Milk transportation and the central unit of the dairy during all these activities precautionary measured and care to be taken keeping in view customers must get clean and good quality milk. Our, all chilling centres also being recertied with international standard level Quality Management System 9001:2008 certication in October, 2013. At present from January, 2017 all chilling centres being certied with new standard ISO: 9001:2015.

We could improve persistent step by step improvement in the quality of the milk. At rural level 6 societies had received ISO 9001:2000 in 2005 and that had also been re-evaluated in 2008 and renewed up to 2011.
