Food in an industrial ambiance – Klüh Catering gains new customers in the Oberbergischer Kreis district

Word gets around about quality, and this is certainly true in the Oberbergischer Kreis district between and , home to many innovative SMEs. Two years ago, August Rüggeberg GmbH in , a medium-sized Global Player and Manufacturer of high-quality tools, commissioned Klüh Catering GmbH to implement modern and fresh company catering. Then followed a second order from the Oberbergischer Kreis district. A manufacturer of high-quality components made of stainless steel and world market leader in piping systems for the petrochemical industry, the company Schmidt + Clemens (S+C), located just 15km away in , also placed an order with Klüh Catering. More than 600 people work for S+C in Lindlar-Kaiserau; the company site stretches expansively across a narrow valley, in which forging hammers were used once upon a time to forge and mould iron – long before the metropolitan area became the embodiment of industrialisation. The company site in Lindlar lives alongside its past – and makes this visible in an interesting way, in the newly opened staff restaurant too. Jan Kümmel, Commercial Director at S+C, had the innovative idea for this. Ingo Stepken, Manager of the Klüh Catering branch in Düsseldorf, said: “In order to break away from the confined space of the previous canteen and at the same time combine the highly traditional ambiance with the most modern gastronomy, S+C suggested developing an out-of-use factory building into a spacious staff restaurant, an exciting concept.” The building is an almost 12-metre-high, former production hall; the height and internal structure provided the idea to set up the future restaurant on 2 levels: one level on the ground floor with a kitchen, Coffee Corner and a dining hall and a second, higher-lying level, the so-called Gallery with room for 40 dinner guests. For special events, visitors and/or company guests can be welcomed and entertained there in a separate area. Very large windows ensure that the red brick building façade has an interesting design. The interior is flooded with light – and offers a full view of the company site and adjacent buildings. The restaurant, which is called “S+C Kantine” in keeping with tradition, was planned by the architect Gabriele Salberg under contract from S+C and is equipped with state-of-the-art kitchen appliances. It provides catering with a great deal of charm and character and integrates pieces of the old equipment – for example, in the form of a crane, which is located above the heads of the guests in the Gallery.

Steffi Lippert, Sales Manager of the Düsseldorf branch, said: “The opening of the S+C canteen was a great success. After just about six weeks, we were able to increase the capacity for dinner guests by 65%. It was a source of great joy for the whole team.” The reason behind the success? Steffi Lippert believes it was the high quality standards: “We cook fresh and healthy food and attach great importance to attractive presentation because we want our guests to come and enjoy themselves and feel comfortable.
