PEMBINA GORGE, carved by the Pembina River, is a region of stunning hills and valleys in the northeastern part of the state near Walhalla. More than 20 miles of hiking Lake Metigoshe State Park Sleepy Hollow, Bismarck trails have been built, providing paths through one of the largest uninterrupted blocks of woodland in the state. There’s also a terrain park for some challenging mountain biking.

If you love to road bike, North Dakota’s scenic byways (page 14) and organized bicycle tours are a wonderful way to see the state. The summer usually has a variety of tours of various lengths.
