Annual Report 2012-2013

Page - 1 Presidents Note

The 2012/13 season was the inaugural year for the Perth City Swimming Club and what a successful year it has turned out to be. It was early in 2012 that the concept to amalgamate the City of Perth Swimming Club and the Lawley Aquatic Swimming Club was first proposed. An ambitious time line was set to have the new Perth City Swimming Club up and running for the start of the 2012/13 season on the 1st of July. I would like to thank Marion Fletcher-Jones and James Throssell for their time and hard work in laying the foundations for the new club and assisting in the development of the new “Club Rules” (Constitution) and the club policies and procedures that have followed.

After jumping a number of hurdles and meeting numerous deadlines the Perth City Swimming Club, decked out in their new club t-shirts, attended their first meet at the 2012 State Short Course Championships. Since then the club has grown form strength to strength both in and out of the water.

I would like to thank the inaugural committee for their hard work during the year. Special thanks goes to Alicia Colreavy our club Registrar who has spent many hours sorting out our membership details and making sure all meet entries were in on time. Fiona Njirich, Head Coach, club night expert and author of the majority of club newsletters. Jon Jessop our resident Quiz Master and Secretary was instrumental in raising much needed funds for the club. He was ably assisted by Barry Cook, wine merchant extraordinaire. Fashion guru Corne’ Fyfe took on the role of coordinating the uniforms whilst Matt Glucina our director of creativity was instrumental in designing the club logo. Henrico Smit was the engine room of the social side of the club always stepping up coordinating sausage sizzles, organising sponsors and making sure club functions ran smoothly. To the rest of the committee for their input and attendance at meetings and being there at club functions to help, your efforts are very much appreciated.

In the pools, oceans, lakes and rivers around the country the Perth City Swimming Club has been leaving its mark with some extraordinary results. These achievements are detailed further in this report and we should all be proud of what we have achieved and what we are part of.

On a final note I would just like to acknowledge the incredible support the club receives from Perth College through the leadership of the Principal Jenny Ethell. Perth College provides the use of the pool and the surrounding facilities and is very supportive of the activities we host. This support is paramount to the future success of the club.

As we embark into our second year as a club the prospects for the new season is very exciting and I am looking forward to another growth year.

Page - 17 Finance Notes

At the end of the financial year the club has a balance of $38 528.94.

Whilst the profit and loss statement for 2012/13 shows a loss of $12,819 there are a number of factors that need to be taken into consideration.

Club Subscriptions

 As the club came into being on the 1st of July 2012 a number of annual membership fees for the 2012/13 season were paid in advance to the City of Perth Swimming Club and the Lawley Aquatic Swimming Club. These funds amounting to around $7,000 were then bundled up and transferred to the new Perth City account as the previous year’s assets.

Uniforms

 As this is the inaugural year for the club a large investment was made into stocking up supplies of club uniform. The club is presently holding approximately $4, 000 worth of stock.

Sponsorship

 Some of the monies that were carried over from the City of Perth swimming club was sponsorship that was ear marked to assist in athlete travel to the Australian Championships. This commitment was honoured and approximately $5,000 was subsequently used for this purpose in the 2012/13 financial year.

Equipment Purchase

 In order to facilitate appropriate training facilities at the Beatty Park Leisure Centre the Club was requested to purchase a fully compliant competition starting block with kicker. This was a one off purchase of $3,300.

If these points are taken into consideration then the club would have returned a profit for the year ending June 30, 2013
