The Triennial Committee is working hard for you. To entice you to attend, I will reveal our Triennial speakers one at a time. I hope Province VII this fires up your interest to come and experience dynamic presentations Pat Hind on evangelism! I know I am looking forward to hearing all three speakers.

Our first keynote speaker, The Reverend Province VIII Canon Stephanie Spellers, is an Episcopal (Representative) priest, author and popular speaker known for Ane Deister fueling radical welcome across the ecumenical spectrum. She serves as the Presiding Bishop's National Office Canon for Evangelism and Reconciliation, spearheading Episcopal efforts to share the good news of God's inclusive love with new communities in new ways. Prior to serving in her current post, Spellers worked for years at [email protected] the intersection of practice and reflection: teaching and directing programs in mission and reconciliation at the General Theological Seminary in New York City and directing new or ministry initiatives for the Center for Progressive Renewal, an ecumenical consulting and resource group based in Atlanta. She is the author of 770-517-8552 Radical Welcome: Embracing God, The Other and the Spirit of Transformation and most recently co-authored, with Eric Law, The Episcopal Way, the first volume in the new series: Church's Teachings for a Changing World. While she is happy to call New York City home today, Spellers remains close to her large extended family in her hometown of Frankfort, Kentucky. She meets God especially when she celebrates Eucharist, dancing and singing, meeting new people and building bridges.

Would your Daughters' chapter, diocesan or provincial assembly choir, or your local version of the Glory Bound Singers (aka "songbirds") like to record a song (via high-quality audio or video) for inclusion in Cross+Links? It will then be available for listening online. If you are interested, please contact Pam Sebura at [email protected] . You may also contact Pam if you have questions about the process or would like song suggestions. Remember, songs and arrangements must be either in the public domain or you must have licensing permission. Flash (thumb) drives of the recordings (no larger than 30 MB) may be sent to Lynn Kimbrell at the National Office.

Triennial Committee

Buiilldiing a Path The Good Shepherd Chapter in Mostoles, Spain.

We will build a Way, brick by brick, to our National Convention, Triennial 2018, at "Mission" Renaissance. Each chapter and each assembly (diocesan, provincial, or national) is invited to create a "brick" to pave the Way. Each brick is to have inscribed on it a verse relating to evangelism. The brick may be an actual brick or it may be constructed of cardboard, paper, clay or other material on which to write or mount the scripture.

We are working on a map of the world with the paths from assembly to assembly shown on it. A line will be drawn from an assembly who has turned in a brick to the next one on the path. In order to keep from having rough spots on our path it is important for every assembly to send a picture into the National Office. If you have not done so, please send it in soon. We are looking for "bricks" from Hawaii, India, Israel, Italy, Germany, Uganda, Malawi, Ghana, Brazil, as well as SE Florida, SW Florida, Central Florida, Florida, Central Gulf Coast, Alabama, Georgia, Atlanta, South Carolina and Upper South Carolina.

Here is the schedule for the upcoming month:

Nov 20 Colombia from the west and Western North Carolina from the east.

Nov 25 Ecuador from the west and North Carolina from the east.

Nov 30 Panama from the west and Eastern North Carolina from the east.

Dec 5 Trinidad and Tobago from the west and Southern Virginia from the east.

Dec 10 Virgin Islands from the west and Southwest Virginia from the east.

Dec 15 Puerto Rico from the west and West Virginia from the east.

Triennial Committee From Uganda An email from a Daughter in Kampala in response to Cross+Links newsletter: I would like to appreciate you and God for the good work that you are doing. I also thank God for the work He is doing through The Order of the Daughters of the King®.

I was introduced to this order by Mrs. Mavis Stapleford and Mrs. Elizabeth Hart ( not sure if they are still alive) way back in the 1990's when they visited Busoga Diocese - Uganda.

And I am glad that I even had a chance of being sponsored for some time through funds of The Order of the Daughters of the King®. I am very grateful.

In all I do, and with all the people I interact with, I am never ashamed of sharing about the goodness of Christ Jesus because at the end of the day, all things mean nothing but the person we remain with even in death is Jesus Christ.

May God bless you all.

Click here to read another letter from Uganda in a column by Elizabeth Hart (1939 - 2013), in the summer 1993 issue of the Royal Cross, p. 3. Royal Cross magazines back to 1985 are archived on The Royal Cross page and because they are in pdf format they can be searched.

Elizabeth Hart (1939-2013) was President of The Order from 1991-1994, and Mavis Stapleford was National Secretary. They traveled to Uganda together in 1993 and introduced The Order to many women there at the invitation of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew and Ugandan women.

Recently The Order in Uganda has been renewed through the regular visits of April Dobbs, who with her husband Rick founded an orphanage and school in the Kabale area of Uganda and has worked with the Ven. David Rurihoona to charter a number of DOK chapters nearby. This year Uganda reported over 700 Daughters in 14 chapters. From the Natiionall Offiice

Greetings from the National Office

As the National Office staff processes the daily mail, especially the large volume of mail received during the dues season, it is always a pleasure to open a card, a handwritten letter, or even a note jotted on an invoice. We sincerely appreciate all the well wishes, the "thank you" notes, the prayers, and the thoughts that you send us with your dues checks, donation forms, and orders. We also enjoy the thoughtful emails, some including devotions and prayers, that are sent to us. We all enjoy receiving and sharing them very much and we would like to express our gratitude to all the Daughters for thinking of us!

Many blessings, Annie, Lynn, Mandy, Michelle, and Pat

Province IV Assembly and Retreat

On the first week of October each year, Province IV Daughters gather on the mountain to praise God, to hear His word, to be healed, and to be in community with one another. This week-long retreat and assembly is held in the mountains of Western North Carolina, at the Kanuga Conference Center.

Our opening Eucharist began with a banner procession representing each diocesan assembly and chapter present. Each morning began with Coffee and Scripture Reflection in the fireside lounge for early risers. After breakfast the assembly gathered for Morning Prayer, which was followed by a meditation given by our Provincial Chaplain and International Chaplain, The Right Reverend Bill Skilton.

Our speaker this year was the Rev. Jonathan Archer of Christ Church, Miami, and our Province IV Junior Daughter Chaplain. He gave a series of four talks on what it means to be a member of the Royal Priesthood in God's Kingdom here on earth and how to live it out daily.

In addition to the talks, we had a Bible study and the opportunity to attend one or more of eight workshops offered; History + Mission = Vision, Centering Prayer, Understanding the Prayer of the Order and its History, The Importance of Sacred Spaces, Developing Leadership using your Chapter Manual, Making Crosses from Nature, Basics of Electronic Communications, and Praying the Scripture. International Night began with a report from Lindy Kirk, National 1st Vice President and International Chair, on bringing our International Daughters to the 2018 Triennial in Austin, followed by reports highlighting the work of The Order in the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Susan O'Brien, National President, gave a report on Triennial and handed out "Save the Date" magnets. We sang lots of hymns and praise music and had times of quiet reflection. Each evening we gathered for fellowship.

A memorial service was held to remember our sisters who had gone on before us over the past year. Over 200 white flowers were placed on a cross as each name was read. At the end of the week, we took the flowers off the cross, went down to the lake and tossed each flower in the lake as we said goodbye to our sisters.

At our Business meeting, we elected new officers for the 2018 - 2021 triennium and elected our Daughter at Large delegate to Triennial 2018.

Our offerings this year went to help the victims of the 2017 hurricane season both here in the U.S. and also in the Caribbean.

Susan Towson Province IV President Gettiing Charged Up How much time do you spend charging your electronic devices - cell phones, laptops, iPads, etc? How much time do you spend charging your own spiritual batteries?

For many, the answer to that second question is -- not enough. We work, we have family responsibilities, we have church responsibilities, and we have issues with our money. All are important but so is the responsibility of nurturing and deepening our connection to our Lord. (Perhaps a "Retreat Fund" should be a part of our monthly budgets?) Our spiritual batteries should get equal importance as our electronics, don't you think?

Charging up our spiritual side can be done in many ways: Quiet Days, weekend retreats, week-long retreats or even retreats of longer duration. The truth is that the longer period of time we have to spend with our Lord, the more we benefit. All of us need at least 24 hours away just to separate from our busy world!

Our Rule of Life binds us to daily prayer but it is easy to slip into "faster" devotions. We may even find ourselves, at the end of a hectic day, not having done any listening at all to what our Lord's message might be for us. To help us keep that connection, we do need, occasionally, to escape from our Sabbath- deprived world to a place affording peace and quiet.

The next time you have the opportunity to attend a diocesan assembly or provincial retreat -- say, "yes" to the Lord who refreshes and renews us.

Mariana Bauman Province I President Thiinkiing of Allll Saiints

As I turn the calendar page to the month of November, I can't help but think of the saints in my life and give thanks for the impact they've had on my life. My grandparents, especially my grandmothers, provided me with a model of daily prayer. As I grew in age and faith, I eventually left the church of my youth and found my way to the Episcopal church. While the church services were so different, I immediately loved the many scripture references and prayers contained in the liturgies. I retained my personal model of daily prayers but also began to include the examples in The Book of Common Prayer by using the rubrics for prayer. And then I discovered The Order and became a Daughter. It was at this time that I formalized my Rule of Prayer.

Taking part in corporate prayer with other Daughters is a privilege for me. It is comforting to know that other Daughters around the world are praying for me as I pray for them. This thought became tangible to me last year when I was diagnosed with cancer. As I went through surgery and chemotherapy, I could feel the prayers of the Daughters and had such a feeling of peace throughout the process.

Working as the international prayer partner coordinator during this time has also been such a blessing for me. As I talked and corresponded with many of you, I was reminded time and time again of the depth of our prayer commitment.

A favorite hymn for All Saints' Day, "I Sing a Song of the Saints of God," has been running through my head all day. Looking at the lyrics today, I'm particularly struck by the third verse, where I am assured that there are "hundreds of thousands still." From Hawaii to Germany, North Dakota to Brazil, Daughters are just ordinary women going about doing the extraordinary work of God.

As you live out your Rule of Prayer, please remember all the International Daughters around the world. Pray for their safety, for the work they are doing to spread the Gospel in their countries, and for their needs to be met.

God willing, one day our descendants will be thinking of us as they sing on All Saints' Day.

Thanksgiiviing Day

Almighty and gracious Father, we give thee thanks for the fruits of the earth in their season and for the labors of those who harvest them. Make us, we beseech thee, faithful stewards of thy great bounty, for the provision of our necessities and the relief of all who are in need, to the glory of they Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. AMEN.
