August 27, 2011 Dear Scholarship Auction Guests: Thank you for attending the 12th biennial “Scholarship Auction” fund raising event to benefit the NSU Athletic Association/Demon Victory Fund and, in particular, NSU‟s 350-plus student-athletes. It is fitting that this event is always held as a new academic and athletic year begins; giving the NSU Athletic Department – student-athletes, coaches, and staff – an opportunity to come together with its alumni and supporters during what truly is one of the most exciting times of the year on a college campus. Priority number one tonight is for you to have a good time, enjoy the company of other friends and supporters, and perhaps get to know a little bit better the great people who are a part of the NSU Athletic Department. At the same time, please know that your financial support tonight will directly impact the ability of NSU‟s student-athletes and coaches to compete for Southland Conference championships and to achieve a level of success at the Division I level nationally….which is exactly what happened this past spring when women‟s track and field student-athlete Trecey Rew won the Division I national championship in the discus!! Oh, and by the way, you might get a great bargain as part of the bidding process, too! Again, your being in attendance tonight reflects your passion and commitment for the NSU athletic program. Let‟s have a great night which will, in turn, set the tone for a great 2011-12 year!! Fork „Em, Demons!!! Gregory S. Burke Director of Athletics P.S. The volunteer initiative for this event, led by auction coordinator Patric DuBois and his right- hand assistant, Liz Gresham, is one of the best in the 21-year history of the auction and on behalf of the entire Athletic Department, thanks to so many who gave of their time, energy, and resources to make this night the success that I know it is going to be. 2 ==========2011 Scholarship Auction========== … Victory is on Our Side! Throughout the evening NSU student-athletes will be selling Raffle Tickets for the “Final Five Raffle”. Final Five Raffle - $100 per ticket *** Only Five Tickets Will Be Drawn *** Five finalists will appear on stage and have the opportunity to share in half of all tickets sold. If an agreement is not reached among the five finalists to split the pot, one-half equally of all ticket sales, another drawing will be held to narrow the finalists down to four. Those four will remain on stage and attempt to reach an agreement to share in half of all tickets sold, but if no agreement is reached, another drawing will be held to narrow the finalists down to three, and so on… until an agreement is reached or until there is only one individual remaining to take home the whole pot. It is permissible for individuals, or tables, to share in the cost of purchasing a “Final Five Raffle Ticket”, however, one individual must assume responsibility to pay for the raffle ticket and collect from the other individuals. Ex. 1: 100 tickets are sold and the five finalists are selected, we collect $10,000. Each of the five finalists agrees to split the $5,000 pot and win $1,000 each. Ex. 2: 78 tickets are sold and we collect $7,800. Each of the five finalists cannot agree on a settlement, and one is eliminated. The final four finalists cannot agree either, and another is eliminated. The final three come to an agreement and split the pot of $3,900 for $1,300 each. 3 ==========2011 Scholarship Auction========== … Victory is on Our Side! Throughout the evening NSU student-athletes will be selling Raffle Tickets for the “NSU Afghan Raffle”. NSU Afghan Raffle - $10 per ticket “The Chase family name is synonymous with generosity when Northwestern is involved. Dan and Lilly were leaders in helping to ensure the University's initial capital campaign was a rousing success. Their continued involvement put us on the road to success in the current campaign. It was an honor for me to induct Dan into the Long Purple Line, Northwestern's alumni hall of distinction, and later with Board of Supervisors approval, confer on him the Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree. Dan was one of my great heroes and mentors, for he was an exceptional human being in so many ways. Even more important, he was a steadfast friend and supporter. Anyone who holds Northwestern dear should take great pride in owning this beautiful afghan that was a gift to Dan from his daughter this past Christmas. We are grateful to Lilly and the family for graciously sharing this treasure with others. Respectfully, Randy Webb” 4 ==========2011 Scholarship Auction========== … Victory is on Our Side! LSU TIGERS FOOTBALL NEWS LSU Tigers (2-2) vs. #11 Tennessee Vols (2-1) TIGERS SET TO HOST NO. 11 TENNESSEE IN NATI O N A L L Y-TELEVISED SHOWDOWN A sell-out crowd in Death Valley will serve as the back drop as the LSU Fighting Tigers and the 11th-ranked Tennessee Volunteers battle for the first time since 1993 this Saturday in a nationally-televised tilt on ESPN. It marks LSU's second appearance in three weeks on ESPN. The Tigers enter the contest with a 2-2 mark after dropping a last-second 13-10 decision to UAB last Saturday. Tennessee is 2-1 after posting a 70-3 win over Louisiana-Monroe. Both teams are 0-1 in league play as the Tigers fell to Auburn, 34-17, two weeks ago, while the Vols fell to Florida, 27-23. Saturday’s game will mark the first between the teams since a 42- 20 win by Vols in Knoxville in 1993. Tennessee owns an 18-3-3 record all-time vs. the Tigers. TIGERS FALL TO UAB ON LAST SECOND FIELD GOAL, 13-10 UAB’s Rhett Gallego kicked a 32-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Blazers to an unlikey 13-10 win over LSU in Tiger Stadium on Saturday night. Gallego’s field goal came just seconds after UAB’s Chris Brown intercepted a Josh Booty pass and returned it 25 yards to the LSU 17-yard line. with 25 seconds left in the contest. UAB defeated the Tigers despite picking up just 178 yards of total offense, which included only 57 yards of offense in the second half.

Connecticut Law Review. 38. https://opencommons.uconn.edu/law_review/38 CONNECTICUT LAW REVIEW VOLUME 41 JULY 2009 NUMBER 5 Note FOURTH AND SHORT ON EQUALITY: THE DISPARATE IMPACT OF THE NFL’S USE OF THE WONDERLIC INTELLIGENCE TEST AND THE CASE FOR A FOOTBALL-SPECIFIC TEST CHRISTOPHER HATCH Prior to being selected in the NFL draft, a player must undergo a series of physical and mental evaluations, including the Wonderlic Intelligence Test. The twelve-minute test, which measures “cognitive ability,” has been shown to have a disparate impact on minorities in various employment situations. This Note contends that the NFL’s use of the Wonderlic also has a disparate impact because of its effect on a player’s draft status and ultimately his salary. The test cannot be justified by business necessity because there is no correlation between a player’s Wonderlic score and their on-field performance. As such, this Note calls for the creation of a football-specific intelligence test that would be less likely to have a disparate impact than the Wonderlic, while also being sufficiently job-related and more reliable in predicting a player’s success.

NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE 280 Park Avenue, New York, NY 10017 (212) 450-2000 * FAX (212) 681- 7573 WWW.NFLMedia.com Joe Browne, Senior Vice President- Communications Greg Aiello, Vice President-Public Relations FOR USE AS DESIRED NFL-20 4/25/02 NFL QUARTERBACKS ABOUND A record number of quarterbacks were selected in last weekend’s NFL Draft. Fifteen quarterbacks were taken, the most in the history of the seven-round draft that was instituted in 1994. That number does not even include two other outstanding college QBs who were drafted as wide receivers. You never know where that quarterback star is going to come from, says Super Bowl XXXVI- winning coach BILL BELICHICK of the New England Patriots. Two years ago in the sixth round, Belichick selected an unheralded TOM BRADY, who would direct the Patriots last season to their NFL title and win the Super Bowl MVP Award in the process. “It’s sometimes hard to evaluate some players until you actually give them the opportunity,” says Belichick. “I’m sure people saw that KURT WARNER had talent but felt he was too far away. A guy like JEFF GARCIA might not look the part like some of the other quarterbacks, but he’s a productive player on the field. “What you’re looking for is a guy that has some of the qualities that you’re looking for, but you’re going to have to give the guy some direction and coaching.” A lot of that Patriots’ “direction and coaching” (Brady is now the unquestioned starter after eight- year starter DREW BLEDSOE was traded to Buffalo last Sunday) will go to fourth-round selection ROHAN DAVEY (LSU) and free-agent signee MAJOR APPLEWHITE of Texas.
