3 1. Opening Words Dear sport friends, I am really pleased I could welcome you at the World High School Volleyball Championship which comes from a long lasting tradition in Moravian metropolis. I was pleased I could have taken a patronage about this sport event which is financially supported from the South Moravian District budget. I am convinced that the spectators in Vodova Venue will experience series of great matches with outstanding levels. I would also like to thank all the organizers and the players and I wish good luck to all of the teams. Dear participants, I would like you to enjoy the stay in South Moravia. JUDr. Bohumil Šimek Governor of the South Moravian Region

Dear ladies and gentlemen, dear sport friends, In a few moments this hall will change into a sport battlefield and our young sportsmen will become devoted warriors ready to achieve the best result. Before we start this I would like to wish them good luck and avoiding to injuries. I would like them to “sell“ everything their coaches had taught them. And, of course, I will keep my fingers crossed for the Czech high school players. At the moment, you are at the age when sport is the most beautiful. You do not have to solve (at least I hope so) the old or long-term injuries. You do not have to face to similar strong pressure as the professional players do. Thanks to this you can fully use every pass, every block, and every “kill“. It does not matter if you do not make anything, nothing happens and the life goes on. Just forget all troubles and worries. Enjoy the game. After all this is why you are here. 4 I would like to thank all the organizers for their outstanding work. It is not easy to organize such a huge international event. My thanks belong also to the people who care of the youth, both to the coaches and the teachers. Dear sportsmen, I wish you pleasant experiences – and not only sport ones – in the city of Brno. Ing. Petr Vokřál Mayor of the Statutory city of Brno

Dear school sports friends, I am very pleased to address these words to all of you on behalf of the International School Sport Federation and to have the opportunity to wish you all a warm welcome. We are honoured to be the guests of the Czech School Sport Clubs Association and the city of Brno. Without any doubt all of us will find in this city and region excellent conditions for a successful stay. We express our heartfelt thanks to the whole team that has been working so hard to create these conditions in order to make this Volleyball World Schools Championship unforgettable. This is a chance for you, young participants coming from different countries and continents, to get to know each other. So don’t hesitate and start making friends. I wish you all a pleasant stay, a successful competition and a lot of joy. Don’t forget that we are school sport! Ofer Shimoni Assessor of the ISF Executive Committee

5 Dear volleyball friends, It is a great honor for me to welcome you on the Word High School Volleyball Championship organized by ASSC in June 2018 in Brno. Volleyball is one of the most popular sports and it has a really big tradition in CR. Recently the Czech cadets won the European Championship in Hungary in 2017, this year the championship was held in Zlín and there the cadets won the silver medals. The Czech Republic has supported and organized a lot of international volleyball events. In 2013 the world championship of junior girls was held in Brno, we have mentioned the cadet championship. In June 2018 Karlovy Vary will host Final Four Golden of Men ´s league. Student competitions should teach and educate young people. Even though, the applied participants guarantee the highest sport level of this championship. I wish you a pleasant stay in Brno and a great success in this competition. Mgr. Marek Pakosta President of Czech Volleyball Federation

Dear sports friends, I am honoured to welcome you at the World Schools Volleyball Championship in Brno. The second biggest city of the Czech Republic will come to life with your performances. In the upcoming nine days you will represent your country not only as the best national school volleyball players but also as students. Let me encourage you to use your time in Brno as much as you can. Do your best and compete in the spirit of fair play. Take the opportunity to create new friends from different countries. Be present and get to know the beauty and culture of the Czech Republic. The championship is not only about victory or defeat. It is about the path you took to achieve your goals. Did you run as fast as you could to hit the ball? Did you keep focused as much as you could to play 6 accurately? Did you pass the ball to your teammate when he had a better scoring position? It is not only the colour of a medal which refers to the quality of your performance. Take your path step by step. That is the only way how you can make your dreams come true. Jesse Owens, the legendary American athlete who won four gold medals in the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin during the era of Adolf Hitler, said: ‘Friendships born on the field of athletic strife are the real gold of competition. Awards become corroded, but friends gather no dust.’ Sport brings nations together regardless of state borders, religions or languages. I believe that in the end of this championship you will leave with the memory of a warm welcome from the local organizers and gained new international friendship that can make you feel as home wherever in the world. Svatava Ságnerová Vicepresident of Czech School Sports Clubs Association

Dear volleyball players, You will be the actors of this World Schools volleyball championship. For many of you this will be the first major international tournament. You get to compete with the best and the worst volleyball players from Asia, Europe and South America. You will live on the ground in moments of euphoria, but also moments of disappointment. Together with your coaches you will sign a Charter of Fair play. With this gesture you bear your willingness to show a positive attitude towards opponents, referees and involves actors in this event. But an ISF Championship is not just sport! All nations will meet at the daily in Hotels, meals, at Opening- and Closing Ceremonies, during the Cultural day and Cultural Festival. You make some new friends who maybe will end with the departure of Brno, or that will last years. Enjoy all of this unique opportunity! But don’t forget that behind this unforgettable week for you, there is a large-scale organization: the Local Organizing Committee with 7 hundreds of volunteers, and the Technical Commission of the ISF. Without them this Championship would not occur. In your name I thank the organizers with all my heart. I admire their talent of organizers and the courage to be committed in such a challenge. I wish you good luck Monique Krecké-Giver President ISF Technical Commission Volleyball

Dear friends of school sport, After more than a year of preparation I am glad to welcome you at the World Schools Volleyball Championship in the Czech Republic. The city of Brno is known as a breeding ground of great volleyball players and I am excited to see all of you – more than 900 school athletes, coaches and participants from 30 countries – coming here together. This is the moment when you can challenge sportsmen from different nations, compare tactics and get to know divergent volleyball practices around the world. This is your opportunity to get to know students from three continents and make friends from diverse corners of the world. This is your chance to play as good as you can and maybe even become champions. One chance is all you need. So use it! Let’s make the upcoming nine days unforgettable. Let’s get the celebration of school volleyball started! Tomáš Kolář President of the Organising Committee

8 Dear young sportswomen and sportsmen, dear guests, I would like to welcome you as the representative of our grammar school which significantly participates in organising this year´s ISF World Secondary School Championship in Volleyball. Our school will host the meeting of the best highschool sportsmen for the third time : in 2007 we organized the first word final of high school floorball players and in 2010 the best table tennis players came to Brno. It is my belief that the effort of our teachers and students contributed to the fact that the time which the young sportsmen spent in Brno was filled with beautiful memories. I firmly believe that you will be leaving Brno and the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic with similar feelings. I would like to wish you many successful matches and joyful experiences when meeting young people from all over the world. RNDr. Jiří Herman, Ph.D. Headmaster of Gymnázium Brno, tř. Kpt. Jaroše
