Media Release Zurich Film Festival to Honour Andrew Garfield With Media Release Zurich Film Festival to honour Andrew Garfield with Golden Eye Award BREATHE to screen as Gala Premiere with director Andy Serkis also in attendance Zurich, August 29, 2017 Academy Award®-nominated actor Andrew Garfield has been announced today as the recipient of the Zurich Film Festival’s (ZFF) prestigious Golden Eye Award. Garfield will be in Zurich to present BREATHE alongside acclaimed actor Andy Serkis, who is making his directorial debut, and producer Jonathan Cavendish, whose parents’ story the film is based on. BREATHE will have its Gala Premiere on Friday, October 6th. Evening Partner is UPC. “Following on from his masterful performances in HACKSAW RIDGE and SILENCE, Andrew Garfield’s powerful and enthralling turn in BREATHE reinforces him as one of the true stars of his generation” stated ZFF Co-Directors Nadja Schildknecht and Karl Spoerri. “We are delighted to welcome him to Zurich and present him with our Golden Eye award at this year’s Festival.” Andrew Garfield In 2016, Garfield appeared on the big screen in Mel Gibson’s Academy Award®-nominated World War II epic, HACKSAW RIDGE. Garfield’s critically acclaimed performance earned him lead actor nominations at the Academy Awards®, Golden Globe Awards®, Screen Actors Guild Awards and BAFTA Awards. The film’s supporting cast members include Hugh Bonneville (PADDINGTON) and Tom Hollander (THE NIGHT MANAGER) as Robin’s devoted, long-time friends. Stephen Mangan (RUSH) and acting legend Dame Diana Rigg (GAME OF THRONES, the original THE AVENGERS) complete the cast, with a soundtrack by the acclaimed composer Nitin Sawhney.     Text of speech given by Jonathan Cavendish at the unveiling of a Blue Plaque in memory of Robin Cavendish at Drayton St Leonard on Sunday 16 June 2019 Welcome everybody to this small ceremony to celebrate the unveiling of a blue plaque in memory of Robin Cavendish. A lot of work and support is required to get a commemorative blue plaque approved and erected, and my mother Diana and I would like to thank the Oxfordshire Blue Plaques board, especially Eda Forbes, and the Drayton St Leonard parish council, especially Edward Hayter, for all their efforts. Before my mother unveils the plaque, I would like to say a few words about my father. Robin and Diana Cavendish went to live in Kenya in the late 50s, following a fairly whirlwind romance. Robin worked as a tea broker. The sun shone, the lions roared, and the ice tinkled in the glass until tragedy struck. Robin contracted polio, was completely paralysed and had to breathe through a ventilator. He was 28, my mother was 24. He was given days, then weeks to live. My mother gave birth to a charming baby – me – and back we came to England. My father was stuck away in the Nuffield Orthopaedic Hospital in Oxford, and unsurprisingly entered a very deep depression. After about one year in the Nuffield, Robin and Diana made the extraordinary decision to break out of hospital. At that time, 1961, nobody with that severity of disability, entirely reliant on a breathing machine, lived outside hospital. The doctors told him he would be dead in two weeks.

Settle in for a summer of ‘reboots’ at the box office By BILL GOODYKOONTZ Gannett Chief Film Critic Published: Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 1:37 p.m. Among the many big-budget blockbusters on tap for this summer is “The Amazing Spider-Man,” which in movie jargon is undergoing what is referred to as a “reboot.” Reboot: A different take on a well-known idea. That’s not surprising. Superheroes are a summer staple, and we’ve already seen a gaggle of them gathered in “The Avengers” so far. And of all genres, the superhero film is best suited for rebooting and remaking. So, fair enough. Except ... wait a second. Didn’t Spider-Man just get a reboot 10 years ago? Yes, yes he did, in Sam Raimi’s film, which was followed by two sequels. So now he needs another? What’s the shelf life of a character, anyway? And how often do we need these things? “Need” isn’t the operative word here. Studios continue to give us what they think we want, and that’s what we get. And while a steady stream of remakes and reboots may grow tiresome and suggest a Hollywood bereft of ideas, one can look no further than Christopher Nolan’s “Batman” films to see that reboots can bear worthwhile fruit.
