Finally, the author would like to convey her thanks to her family and friend for their great love, support, understanding and encouragement to complete her study at AIT. ii Abstract Chachoengsao Province is one of the less urbanized and industrialized zone of the Eastern region evidenced by the presence of traditional agro industries. The eastern districts of the Province, also the fringe areas of the Bangkok urban, are well irrigated by the Bang Pakong River and support paddy cultivation to a large extent. Abundant of natural resources and availability of labor promotes agriculture as a mainstream occupation. The study considering the material flow and economic linkages in the peri-urban areas, the study focused on the five districts; Muang Chachoengsao, Bang Khla, Bang Nam Priao, Bang Pakong, and Ban Pho. Specifically, the system under consideration is the predominant agriculture sector with rice as the major product, its value chain, and the scattered livestock sectors. The environmental setting of the sector and study region was first understood through a baseline study. The material flow starts with paddy cultivation in and proceeds as many steps until all the products and by-products are completely utilized. The livestock sectors are also connected through material flows. The quantitative material flow pattern in the region is formed; it is evident that though a near-perfect material flow occurs, pollution problems due to unrecognized value of materials still exist. The material flow in the rice and livestock sectors of Chachoengsao indicates the potential for its transformation to an Agro Eco-industrial network. Introduction of new technologies are essential for a successful transformation. Appropriate policy reforms considering all related issues of the Eco-industrial network and rightly integrated with national and local development priorities is essential. iii Table of Contents Geospatial diffusion pattern of the 2007 dengue outbreak was investigated. Map of daily cases was generated for the 153 days of the outbreak. Epidemiological data from Chachoengsao province, Thailand (reported dengue cases for the years 1999–2007) was used for this study.

Nelson1 On September 19, 2006, Army Commander-in-Chief Sonthi Boonyaratglin led a group of soldiers in overthrowing the Thaksin government. The drafting of a new constitution, a referendum on it, and a general election followed. Small groups of people-in-power in Bangkok invariably made the decisions. However, they necessi- tated a large range of follow-up actions and much discussion at Thailand’s provincial level. The present report is the third in a small series that deals with what happened in Chachoengsao province during this latest instance of military intervention in Thai pol- itics. The first report described public hearings on the draft constitution (KPI Thai Politics Up-date, No. 3, August 14, 2007), while the second was about the referendum on the constitution (KPI Thai Politics Up-date, No. 4, February 6, 2008). As with the first two reports, the present one is based on field data collection in Chachoengsao, conducted between October 1 and December 30, 2007.2 This report will deal with the basic electoral organization, the redrawing of constituency boundaries, the electoral calendar, the process of becoming a candidate, issues concerning the political struc- ture and the election candidates, the roles of the Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) and Chachoengsao’s Provincial Election Commission (PEC) in election adver- tising, advance voting, and the election results.3 Finally, the conclusion will expand the horizon beyond the province of Chachoengsao. 2 Basic electoral organization The ECT’s organizational division into a board consisting of a chairperson and four members appointed for a single term of seven years (the commission proper)4 and a permanent office headed by a secretary general was mirrored at the provincial level.

Ordinary people remain placeless, nameless, voiceless, and invisible. But they existed. This thesis aims to redress such élitist historiography by introducing a different historical narrative that is fragmentary and episodic narratives of ordinary people. It explores the role of flesh-and-blood individuals, and the worlds they lived in and imagined, in Cambodia in the nineteenth-century, a period of radical change that remains comparatively unexamined, especially prior to the establishment of the French Protectorate in 1863. The thesis excavates archival sources, including testimonial narratives and local literature, and pieces together such shards and fragments into vivid narratives of ordinary people who lived at the fringes of society yet traversed vast stretches of Cambodian territory. It is a quilt of the life-stories of individuals –of Khmer, Siamese, Vietnamese, and Chinese descent– who traveled, dreamed, adventured and agitated in order to make their lives better in the here-and-now felt and material world.

This paper briefly reviews the changing epidemiology of dengue, discusses some of the factors responsible for the recent resurgence, and reviews the current options available for reversing the emerging trend of the disease. Abstract. Survey of sanitation conditions by qualitative sanitation measurement were carried out in three districts, Chachoengsao Province, Thailand. The sanitation of each household was assessed in terms of positive stool examination and scores of seven main sanitary activities which were used to classify each household's sanitation as hygienic or non-hygienic. Stool collections were made from each household's housewife and examined for pathogenic bacteria and parasites. It was found that in the qualitative meas­ urement of the household's sanitation as hygienic or non-hygienic, most sanitary activities were highly associated with the results of stool examination. From consideration of the sensitivity, specificity and kappa coefficient of significant sanitary activities as predictors and the result of stool examination was used as gold standard, it was apparent that a package of all main sanitary activities was the most appro­ priate measurement in the survey to assess sanitation conditions in the community. The objectives of this research were 1) to study the body of knowledge and the model of harvesting mangoes by mango agriculturists in Chachoengsao, and 2) to study guidelines for developing agro-tourism of mango agriculturists in Chachoengsao. Data was collected from mango agriculturists in Chachoengsao, using questionnaires, and interviews of sample group. The research findings were that the current planting of mangoes has been changed from growing the mangoes from seeds, to grafted mango trees that grow and produce faster than by seeds. In terms of harvesting, the labour force is mainly needed for small orchards as picking mango fruit is done by hand. However, for fruit on higher branches, some harvesting aids had to be employed such as a basket ‘Takraw’ which is used to assist in picking. Moreover, separating planting zones, and growing a variety of mangoes are to help insure mango fruit throughout the year. In terms of guidelines for developing agro-tourism of mango agriculturists in Chachoengsao, there was an agro-operation between mango agriculturists and government agencies of Khlong Khuean District to create agro-tourism in the community.
