AGNEW, Bill WWII

Bill was born on September 12, 1925 in Aurora, ON. He is the son of William and Evelyn (Morson) Agnew. He joined the R.C.N. in February 1944 and served aboard the H.M.C.S. Prince Rupert until January 1946. Bill married Olga Heinmark and now resides in Calgary.

AGNEW, John Douglas WWII

John was born in Charlottetown, PEI. He is the son of William and Evelyn (Morson) Agnew. He served with the R.C.N from April 1942 to April 1946. He married Mary Ruth MacTavish in Calgary and they had three children: Barrie, Bonnie and Robson. John passed away on October 13, 1973 in Calgary.

AGNEW, Phyllis WWII

Phyllis was born on August 21, 1922 in Charlottetown, PEI. She is the daughter of William and Evelyn (Morson) Agnew. She served with the R.C.A.F. from January 1943 to April 1946. She married Oliver Holmes and they had five children. Oliver passed away in 2002, and Phyllis currently resides in Kelowna, BC.

ALLEY, Bill WWI

Bill was born in Cardigan, PEI. He served in the Canadian Expeditionary Force during WWI and was wounded in the arm. Bill worked for C.N.R. after the war as a mail sorter on Murray Harbour Line.

ANDERSON, Lloyd J. WWII

Lloyd was born on August 30, 1892 in St. Peter’s Bay, PEI, son of Oliver and Randall (Hayden) Anderson. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1944 and served with the Military , he was stationed at the base in Summerside, PEI. After his discharge in 1945, he returned to the Bay where he and his wife, Abiona Waye, resided. Lloyd passed away on February 23, 1975 and is buried in Midgell Cemetery.

ARBING, Leith WWII

Leith served the Canadian Army, enlisting in 1941.

BARRY, Alexander WWII Alexander was born on August 10, 1901 in St. Peter’s Harbour, PEI, son of John and Margaret (MacIntosh) Barry. After the death of his parents, he went to live with Pius Sutherland’s family in Cable Head East. He enlisted on October 1, 1939 and joined the 58th Heavy Battery. He served in Canada, the United Kingdom and in the central Mediterranean area. After his discharge on November 21, 1945, he returned to Cable Head, where he married Cecilia Sutherland and raised a family. Alexander passed away on January 20, 1970, and is buried in St. Peter’s Bay Roman Catholic Church Cemetery. He was awarded the following decorations and medals: 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, Defense Medal, and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal

BARRY, Bernard WWII Bernard was born in 1896 in St. Peter’s Harbour, PEI, son of John and Margaret (MacIntosh) Barry. After the death of his parents, he lived with Pat McCarthy and later he went to live with the Cummings’ family in Goose River. He joined the 105th Regiment, and was wounded in action while serving in France. After his discharge, he returned to Goose River for a short time. He moved to Charlottetown, where he became an employee of the CNR Hotel. He lived in Charlottetown until his death in 1973. Bernard is buried in the People’s Roman Catholic Cemetery in Charlottetown.

BARRY, Patrick Joseph WWI Patrick was born on June 10, 1897 in St. Peter’s Harbour, PEI, son of John and Margaret (MacIntosh) Barry. After the death of his parents, he lived with Clem and Maggie Sutherland in Cable Head. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on January 12, 1916, and joined the 105th Regiment Battalion, B Company and was sent overseas. After the war, he returned to Cable Head for a short time. Upon his discharge, Patrick left for , where he later passed away. He is buried in Ontario.

BOULTER, Karl WWII

Karl was born in 1906 in Victoria, PEI. He enlisted in the Canadian Navy on May 7, 1940, and was discharged on February 5, 1945. He served on Corvettes at sea for most of this time. Karl now resides at the Garden Home in Charlottetown.

BRENNAN, Raymond WWII

Ray was born in Elmsdale, PEI. He served the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Firefighter in Canada and Newfoundland from July 10, 1941 to October 19, 1945.

BROWN, James D. WWII James was born on March 15, 1924 in Long River, PEI. He served the Canadian Army from 1943-1946. During that time he served in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Maynard enlisted in the Canadian Army in Summerside, PEI on March 21, 1916. He served in the 11th Battalion C E in France and was discharged on June 15, 1919. Maynard passed away in September of 1957.

Stanley was born on October 9, 1917 in Kensington, PEI. He served with the 2nd Medium Regiment.

CAMPBELL, Garfield William WWII

Garfield was born in 1919 in Milo, Prince County, PEI. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1940, and joined the Prince Edward Island Highlanders. When he arrived in England, he transferred to the West Regiment. Garfield served in Canada, Newfoundland, England, Italy, France, Belgium and Holland before his discharge in 1946.

Lloyd was born on February 11, 1920 in Spring Valley, PEI. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on January 6, 1941, and served overseas in England. Lloyd was discharged after the war.

CAMPBELL, Norman Louis WWII

Norman was born on January 14, 1920 in Kelly’s Cross, PEI. He enlisted in the Canadian Army and served with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders. Norman passed away on November 27, 2001.

CARR Stanford W. WWII Killed in Action

Stanford was born on January 4, 1918 in New London, PEI. He joined the PEI Highlanders in July 1940, and he served in Canada, Newfoundland, England and Italy. He was wounded in May 1944. After spending time in the hospital, he was back in action, but Stanford was later killed in battle on December 11, 1944.

CHAISSON, John J. WWII

John was born in Souris, PEI. He joined the North Nova Scotia Highlanders and served in France, where he was wounded. John passed away in November 1996.

COFFIN, Clarence Douglas WWII

Clarence was born on August 5, 1924. He served in the North Atlantic from March 1942 to November 1945.

Elmer was born on February 27, 1926 in Spring Brook, PEI. He enlisted with the Canadian Army in August 1943 and served in Canada, England and Continental Europe until his discharge on April 1, 1947.

CORNISH, Sam WWII

Sam enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1938. He passed away in 2002.

COUSINS, Waldo WWII

Waldo was born on June 4, 1920. He enlisted with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders in 1939 and served overseas as a driver with D Company. He served in England, France, Holland, Germany and Italy until his discharge in 1945. Waldo passed away in Ontario in 1980.

CRANE, Alfred WWII

Alfred was born on August 17, 1913, son of Ward and Bessie (MacPhee) Crane. He served in the R.C.A. Sc. CA. He married Gertrude Campbell. Alfred passed away on December 7, 1993, and is buried in Lorne Valley.

CRANE, James Edwin “Jay” WWI

Jay was born on December 24, 1882 in Riverton, PEI. He was a member of the 1377 Regiment of the C.F.M. during the war. Jay passed away on May 30, 1915, and is buried in a British Cemetery in the outskirts of Bolagne.

CRAWFORD, Michael Daniel WWI Killed in Action

Michael was born in De Gros Marsh, he is the son of George and Mary (MacLean) Crawford. He served in the Canadian Infantry, Quebec Regiment during the war. Michael was killed in action on August 15, 1918, and is buried at the Vimy Memorial Cemetery in France.

CROZIER, Jack WWII

Jack was born in Baltic, PEI. He served the Canadian Army from 1939-1945 and served overseas during the war. After the war, he returned to Baltic before moving to Summerside. Jack is deceased.

CROZIER, Phillip WWII Killed in Action

Phillip was born in Baltic, PEI. He joined the Canadian Navy at the start of the war. Phillip was killed in action.

DALZELL, William Gordon WWII

William was born on May 1, 1918, in New Annan, PEI, eldest son of Edison and Florence Dalzell. He was posted overseas in November 1943 with the Cape Breton Highlanders and served in England, France, Holland and Germany until his discharge in December 1945. William passed away on February 11, 1972.

Sidney was born on November 30, 1913 in Enmore, PEI. He enlisted in the army in September 1941 and served with the Fort Garry Horse Regiment. He was wounded in London, England and then discharged on June 25, 1945. Sidney passed away on July 19, 2002.

Lloyd was born on April 30, 1919 in Enmore, PEI. He enlisted with the Army in August 1941 and served with the P.E.I. Lighthorse and later with the Calgary Regiment. He served in Holland, Italy, Sicily, North Africa, Belgium and England. He was discharged in December 1945. Lloyd passed away on March 7, 2006.

Alyre was born in Bloomfield, PEI. He served the Canadian Army with the 5th Canadian Armoured Division, Sherbrooke Fusiliers as Trooper. He served in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany from April 19, 1941 until September 1945.

Leonard was born on November 6, 1920 in Cardigan, PEI. He served with the Royal Canadian Engineers in Petawawa, ON, England, Scotland, Sicily, Italy, Africa, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany from 1942 to 1946. Leonard passed away in March 1994.

Robert was born in 1920 in Flat River, PEI. He enlisted with the RCAF in 1941 in the 143 Wing. He left Halifax in November 1943 for overseas duty in England, France, Holland, Denmark and Germany. Robert passed away in 2005.

MACLEAN, James Alexander WWII

James was born in and later moved to Argyle Shore, PEI in 1936. He enlisted with the Canadian Navy and served on the HMCS Sackville overseas. James passed away in November 1958.

MACLEAN, John Wesley WWII

John was born in Saskatchewan in 1917. His family later moved to Argyle Shore, PEI in 1936. He enlisted with the RCA, 2nd Medium Battery, 1st Canadian Division and served in Europe and Italy from 1939-1945. John passed away in 2003.

MACLEAN, Russell Leigh WWII

Russell was born in 1915 in Birch Hill, PEI. He joined the 86th Coast Battery, Royal Canadian Artillery on December 7, 1940. He trained in Nova Scotia before being posted overseas in June 1944. When he arrived in France, he was transferred to the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders. He served in France for two weeks before being wounded on September 8, 1944. After his recovery in a field hospital in France, he returned to Halifax on December 8, 1944 and was discharged in January 1945 and he returned to PEI. Russell passed away in 2000.

MACLEOD, Alexander WWI & WWII

Alexander was born on January 9, 1883. He enlisted with the American Army on May 28, 1918 and was discharged on May 8, 1919. He also served in WWII as a Veteran’s Guard. Alexander passed away on May 23, 1977.

MACLEOD (MACRAE), Blanche WWII

Blanche enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps in 1941 as a Nursing Sister. She was stationed at Cogswell Street Military Hospital in Halifax, and then posted to #25 Canadian General Hospital (CGH) St. John's, and to #26 Botwood Military Hospital, both in Newfoundland. She then transferred to Chorley Park Military Hospital, Toronto and the Toronto Convalescent Hospital. In 1943, Blanche received permission to resign her Commission to be married to Major Roderick MacLeod, CCS.

Dave was born in Summerside, PEI in 1925. He served the Royal Canadian Air Force from May 1943 to January 1945 as a Wireless Air Gunner in Canada.

Horace was born on July 31, 1916 in Spring Brook, PEI. He enlisted with the PEI Highlanders on July 15, 1940 in Charlottetown. He served in Canada before he was sent overseas in 1943, where he served in North Africa and Italy where he was seriously wounded. He was discharged on August 1, 1944, due to ill health. Horace passed away in 2005.

MELLISH, Clarence William WWII

Clarence was born in 1910 on Union Road, Kings County, PEI, son of John T. and Janet (MacPherson) Mellish. He served the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War. Clarence passed away in 1964.

MILLAR, Donald Gordon WWII Donald was born on December 18, 1922 in Mt. Pleasant, PEI, son of Arthur and Florence (Ramsay) Millar. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in November 1942, and was called up for service in February 1943. He did convoy duty protecting merchant ships in Plymouth, South West England. He was later part of a striking force that tried to capture enemy submarines during the D-Day invasion. Donald passed away on December 27, 1996. He was awarded the following decorations and medals: North Atlantic Star, France and Germany Star, George VI Medal, and the Voluntary Service Medal.

MILLMAN, Walter Porter WWII

Walter was born in Alberton, PEI. He served the Royal Canadian Air Force as LAC in Canada from February 12, 1943 to December 8, 1945.

Stuart was born on April 19, 1906 in Port Hill, PEI, son of William and Catherine (Stuart) Montgomery. He enlisted in July 1940 with the Advance Party 5th Armored Division. In October 1941, he went overseas and served in England, France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Holland. He was awarded the E.D. in 1944, and was discharged in November 1945 with the rank of Major R.C.A.C. Stuart passed away in 1992.

NOONAN, Mary Katheryn WWII

Mary was born in Borden, PEI in June 1923. She served the Canadian Women’s Army Corp from November 1943 to October 1945 in Canada and England.

O’CONNOR, John WWI & WWII

John was born on October 13, 1899, son of Elizabeth (Benoit) and John O’Connor, in Sturgeon, Kings County, PEI. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on March 14, 1916 and served with the 105th Overseas Battalion CEF. During World War One, he served at the Battle of Vimy Ridge and was wounded in the elbow and knee. During World War Two, he served in the Veteran’s Guard in a prison camp for Germans in New Brunswick. John passed away May 8, 1948.

O’CONNOR, John Reginald “Reg” WWII

Reginald was born in Kildare, PEI in 1919. He served the Canadian Army from May 1940 to January 1946, with the Prince Edward Island RS in Canada, the United Kingdom and Central Europe. Reginald passed away in July 1998.

PAQUET, Philip WWII

Philip was born on May 31, 1921 in Souris, PEI. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1940 and served overseas. He flew communications flights all over Africa, Iran, India and Arabia before illness grounded him and he was posted back home in 1944. Philip passed away on November 13, 1988.

PAYNTER, Frederick Leigh WWII Killed in Action

Frederick was born on August 31, 1922 in French River, PEI, son of Wesley and Violet Paynter. He enlisted in the North Nova Scotia Highlanders in 1940 at the age of seventeen. Frederick was killed in action on July 25, 1944, and he is buried in Bretteville-Sur-Laize Canadian War Cemetery, Calvados, France.

PAYNTER, Verdun Bruce WWII

Verdun was born on March 12, 1920 in Kensington, PEI, son of Bruce and Grace Paynter. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1940 and was stationed at Mount Pleasant, Summerside and Vancouver, BC until 1945. Verdun married Audrey Baker on November 17, 1943, and they lived in Kensington through the years.

PHILLIPS, Rev. W. J. WWII

Reverend W. J. Phillips was born in England. He served the Army, 1st Canadian Corp, 5th Armoured Division as Major in North West Europe, Italy and North Africa from 1941 until his discharge on May 13, 1946.

PHILLIPS, Sanford WWII

Sanford enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1940 and served during World War Two.

PINEAU, Ernest Korean War

Ernest was born in Bloomfield, PEI. He served the Canadian Army, Special Forces, Airborn Troops as Private in Korea from 1952 to 1953.

Aletha was born on January 28, 1922. She served in the Canadian Dental Corps from 1939-1944. Aletha is the wife of Harry Stewart and she is currently living in Montague, PEI.

STEWART, Alfred Vernon WWII

Alfred was born on September 11, 1917 in Kilmur, PEI, son of Daniel and Elizabeth Stewart. He served with the PEI Highlanders, Military Police and the South Saskatchewan Regiment in Europe. Alfred passed away on June 25, 1988.

STEWART, Clarence M. WWII

Clarence was born on November 2, 1920 in Beach Point, PEI, son of George and Isabella (Penny) Stewart. He served with the RCASC during World War Two. Clarence passed away in 1973 in Ontario.

STEWART, Donald Colin WWII

Donald was born on December 20, 1916 in Glen William, Kings County, PEI, son of John Hamilton Stewart and Christine Nicholson. He joined the Royal Canadian Artillery in 1942. He served in France, Belgium, Germany and Holland. He saw all these countries liberated and he stayed an extra year with the Occupational Force until his discharge in 1946. Donald passed away on March 23, 2000.

STYMEIST, Cecil Thomas WWII

Cecil was born in Murray River, PEI, son of James MacDougall Stymeist and Christine Horton. He served as a Sgt. with the PEI Highlanders and served for 5 1/2 years as an instructor in England.

Francis was born on October 15, 1922 in St. Stephen, NB, son of Ben and Mary Thibeau. He enlisted in Summerside, PEI in 1939, serving in Canada, England, Holland, Germany, France and Italy. Francis passed away from complication of his wounds on February 14, 1945.

WALKER, Charles E. WWI & WWII

Charles was born in 1898 in Caledonia, PEI. He enlisted in the Canadian Army during World War One, and served with the 1st Depot Battalion, NS Regiment and the 17th Reserve Battalion. He served with the Royal Canadian Army during the Second World War in Canada and the United Kingdom from 1939-1945. He was awarded the following decorations and medals: British War Medal, Defense Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and War Medal.

WALKER, Frank WWI

Frank was born on December 25, 1893 in Charlottetown, PEI. He served with the Canadian Army Medical Corps, First Canadian Contingent and the Expeditionary Force from August 1914 to July 1919. Frank’s personal account of World War One, From A Stretcher Handle: The World War I Journal and Poems of Pte. Frank Walker was edited by his daughter Mary F. Gaudet and published in 2000 by the Institute of Island Studies, Charlottetown. Frank passed away November 27, 1977.

WEDGE, Joseph ‘Edward’ WWII

Joseph was born in Fortune Cove, PEI. He served the Army, #62 Canadian Army Training Centre as Craftsman in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe from December 17, 1942 to March 25, 1946.

WALL, Robert James WWI

Robert was born on May 26, 1894, son of George and Margaret Wall of Princetown, PEI. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy on November 22, 1917. He was discharged on May 17, 1919. Robert passed away on January 4,1975.

WHYTE, Kelso WWII

Kelso was born in November 1926 in Smith Falls, ON. He served in the Merchant Navy for three years during World War Two, and for twenty-five years of Peacetime. Kelso passed away on March 20, 1996.

WINN, James A. “Jim” WWII Jim was born on November 18, 1924 in Saint John, NB, son of Frank and Catherine (Morrison) Winn. When his parents separated in the 1930s, he returned to Conway to reside with his mother and grandparents. On July 14, 1943, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army and went through Basic Training in Charlottetown, and Advanced Training in Aldershot and , NS. He served with the North Shore Regiment, Pioneer Platoon, C Company on sniper and heavy mortar duty. On June 3, 1944, he embarked on the D-Day offensive from England, going ashore on Normandy Beach on June 6, 1944. On July 4, 1944, he was wounded by artillery fire at Capriquet Airport, near Caen, France. Late in 1944, he went back into the line at Falaise Gap. He was discharged on October 18, 1945, and returned to Conway to live. He presently resides at Tyne Valley, PEI.

YEO, Chester Gordon WWII

Chester was born on May 26, 1913 in Victoria West, PEI. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Army in November 1942 and served overseas. He was wounded in action and he returned home in 1946. Chester passed away on March 23, 2001.

YEO, Jack Alton WWII Jack was born in 1919 in Central Lot 16, PEI. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Army in June 1941 and served with the 82nd Battery 4th Ant-Tank Regiment, Royal Canadian Army, Gaspe, Quebec. He served in England, Italy, North Africa, France, Germany, Holland and Belgium, until his discharge in December 1945. His brother James G. Yeo also served overseas. Jack married Jean MacArthur, whose father, James Gordon MacArthur served in World War One, and they have three children.

YOUNG, Emmett WWII

Emmett served in Canada and overseas from 1939 to 1945. Emmett is deceased.
