Re: Finch West LRT lands for Community Hub

Dear Premier Ford and Minister Mulroney,

I have read your response to Metrolinx dated July 25, 2020, and I appreciate that you have stated your government’s position in writing, however a deal has already been negotiated and agreed upon by Metrolinx and the community. Your government’s position as stated in this letter simply affirms Metrolinx’s decision to renege on the terms of the original agreement.

As such, I am calling on your government to immediately transfer lands to the city of Toronto to build the community hub. Only this would honour the terms of the agreement between Metrolinx and the community.

The previous Liberal government had failed to transfer the 32 metre parcel of land to the city of Toronto as was originally agreed upon, which opened the door for Metrolinx to renege. History cannot repeat itself through your government’s failure to do the right thing.

The Community Hub is a transformative and visionary project for the Jane and Finch community. Anything less than the original agreement will be rejected by the community. It is not just a tiny amount of space within a private development, it is a source of hope and pride that could change the lives of many.

I look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,

Tom Rakocevic Member of Provincial Parliament Humber River-Black Creek
