AN ASIAN TRAILS PROPOSAL FOR Company Name | Country Society for Conservation Biology | USA

Group Name Society for Conservation Biology/ Pre & Post Congress Tour Period of Travel 21st – 25th JULY 2019 (KUALA LUMPUR) Excursions 3D2N MULU CAVE DISCOVERY

DAY 01 ARRIVE MULU [-/-/D] Upon arrival at Mulu Airport, meet with our representative and proceed with transfer to Mulu Park. 1430 We will start the adventure with the Deer & Lang Cave tour. Begin from Park HQ at 1400 or 1430 hrs (daily tours). Deer Cave and Lang Cave are two distinctly different caves situated in the southern hills area of the park. You should be at the office at least 10 minutes early. Despite being the smallest out of the four other show caves in the park, Lang Cave is special in its own way. It has a spectacular array of stalactites, stalagmites, helictites, shawls and rim stone pools. In contrast, Deer Cave is not only the biggest at Mulu, it is the largest cave passage in the world. A powerful underground river once flowed through this area, dissolving and eroding the limestone to form a stream-passage cave. While Deer Cave does not have lots of cave decoration, its size alone is overwhelming. This tour is timed to coincide with bats exodus. After the tour, you will return to hotel for overnight.

DAY 02 MULU [B/L/D]

0845 After breakfast, we will continue our adventure with the Clearwater Cave & Cave of the Winds Tour. You will begin from the Park HQ at 0845 or 0915 hrs (daily tours). Meet your guide in front of the park office and then cruise up the Melinau River in a longboat and visit the Penan longhouse market on your way to Cave of the Winds and Clearwater Cave. Note: The market is not open on Sunday.

After visiting the cave of the Winds – a really cool place – your Guide will take you on a short walk further along the river to the nearby Clearwater Cave where the river roaring beneath your feet has travelled its subterranean route for over 170km. Giant logs thrown high on the banks and wedged under boulders are evidence of the power of this mighty underground river. Swimming is not permitted in the cave however once you are back outside of the cave you can enjoy a swim in the crystal-clear waters where the river emerges from the cliff face. Float with the fish and enjoy the rainforest around you. You may enjoy your packed lunch at the clearwater rest hut. Note: Pathway to Wind and Clearwater Caves via Moonmilk Cave has been closed due to rock falls. Later, return to the park in the late afternoon. Proceed to your hotel for overnight.
