S INTRODUCTION
This first issue ofthe Directory ofWater and Sanitation Projects in Cambodia was produced on the initiative of the Water and Sanitation Sector Group. Financial support by the Overseas Development Administration of the United Kingdom to make publication possible is gratefully acknowledged.
This directory provides an overview of all water supply and sanitation projects in Cambodia supported by Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO’s), United Nations agencies and Local Initiative Groups (LIG’s). With the continuing growth and changes taking place in the sector it is felt that such an overview will provide useful information to the Cambodian government, agencies already working in the sector, and those agencies planning to do so in the future. To facilitate easy access to the collected information it is organized and printed in a variety of different ways, including maps of Cambodia with selected data. Copies of this directory are available in both English and Khmer.
Although efforts are being made to fmd a national organisation to administer the database, at present the directory is being managed by Oxfam. Requests for printed copies of the directory, requests for inclusion, or changes to the information listed should be addressed to: WatSan Directory, do. Oxfam, Phnom Penh. it is anticipated that the directory will be updated on an annual basis.
Many efforts are being made by many organisations to assist the Cambodian people in securingpotable water, and sanitation facilities. But let us notforget that resources are finite, and we, as implementing agencies, owe it to our project partners not to waste those limite resources available. Duplication of effort and waste of resources is prevented where activiti are coordinated between the relevant government departments and all implementing agencie
hope that this directory will be a useful tool in helping that coordination to
Finally, I would like to thank Peter Frecklington for collecting and organizing all inform contained in this directory, and all others who gave generously of their time to publication of this directory a possibility.
Jan-Willem Rosenboom, Chairman Water and Sanitation Sector Group, July 1994.

1~11’-f .: T~. How to use this book The first section features the major activities in water and sanitation with province maps showing district level detail. This is followed by a short section of general statistics derived from the survey data, The middle sections provide several sources for finding information by reference to province or specific area of activity. From there, reference can be made to the final section, which gives the full details of each project listed by implementing agency.
Preface The aim in publishing the data from this survey of activities in water and sanitation is to present as large an amount of factual information as possible. To this end, the data is presented in a very abbreviated, even truncated, form. This is unavoidable and there is no apology for this, However, apologies to those agencies who may feel that this style of presentation has tended to misrepresent the nature of their project. Survey Coordinator Peter Frecklington Tonie’s Typesetting SURVEY OF NGO AND 10 ACTIVITY IN THE WATER AND SANITATION SECTOR
