The non- profit Boosters at Rising Star, comprising parents and other people interested in furthering the sport on the Monterey Peninsula, is sponsoring the event. Founded by Kathleen Brady in 1982, Rising Star had its home in Sunset Center for two decades before relocating to Del Monte Boulevard in Monterey seven years ago. Brady’s daughter, Kelly, was a Junior Olympian who returned to coach young gymnasts alongside her mother, and they share duties with seven other coaches, many of them highly accom- plished in the sport. Children enroll in Rising Star programs at the tender age of 3 or 4, begin competing in statewide USA Gymnastics- sponsored events as young as 6, and continue training there through their teens in their drive to become Olympians.
