www.brightlingsearegentfc.com BRIGHTLINGSEA REGENT RESERVES A BRIEF HISTORY

Brightlingsea Regent, previously Brightlingsea United, have completed around 100 years of competitive football. Firstly in the Border League, between 1908/1909 to 1970 when they joined The Senior league for 20 years having much success, before going on to join the then Jewson League in 1990 and then back to the Border League in 2001/2002. Brightlingsea United FC and Regent Park Rangers FC amalgamated at the start of 2005/06 season to become Brightlingsea Regent Football Club. During this time the squad and club have continued to grow and develop, having success in the Border League Division 1 and cup.

In 2009/2010 new Management team James Webster and Mark Gridley guided Regent to a 4th place finish and followed up the following season in 2010/2011 by winning the Kent Blaxill Premier Border League in a superb season by playing 34, winning 31, drawing 2 and losing just 1 game.

In season 2011-12, James Webster added Tom Rothery to the Management team in September and they finished their first season back at step 6 with a creditable 5th place finish. They also reached the quarter-final of the before losing to League 2 side Dagenham & Redbridge. The 2012-13 season was successful for many reasons. Firstly a FA Vase cup run, which was the longest in the club’s history before bowing out in round 3 (last 64). The club gained promotion back to step 5 and the Premier Division with a third place finish which included a 22 game unbeaten run during the season. In the final game of the season the team won the First Division KO Cup final with a 1-0 victory over Gt Yarmouth.

The 2013-14 season in the Eastern Counties Premier Division again proved to be successful for Brightlingsea; gaining promotion after finishing Runners-up to Hadleigh Utd, losing out on the final day by goal difference. The club also reached the last 16 of the FA Vase and in doing so again created history.

The 2016-17 season saw Brightlingsea Regent crowned as champions of the Isthmian North Division, notching up an impressive 103 points and finishing 12 points ahead of their closest rivals, ensuring an historic promotion to the Bostik Premier League.

In October 2017 long-standing manager James Webster left the club to be replaced by former assistant manager and coach Tom Rothery, who maintained the R’s first team standing at Step 3 in the Bostik Premier League.

The 2018/19 season sees the Brightlingsea Regent Reserves playing their first season in the newly- formed Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties Division One South at step 6 in the football pyramid, under the management of Lee Clark, his assistant Glen Last and Head Coach Adam Munn.

FOR THE KIDS

To increase attendances at our grounds, the Thurlow Nunn League, in conjunction with its clubs and its sponsor, Thurlow Nunn, is promoting the need to turn matches into a more family-orientated entertainment in a family-friendly environment.

The League understands that football is a game of intensity and passion. In the heat of the moment, frustrations grow, tempers can be lost and there is an urgent need for players and club management to share their feelings with others. The League also understands that, in that moment, language may be used that others may not feel is appropriate in a family setting.

Nothing will send parents and/or grandparents heading quickly for the exits with their youngsters, never to return, than a constant stream of foul language. All we ask is that you encourage players and management to keep it down for the kids.

To assist match officials identify those within the technical areas, the League has provided florescent orange bibs to all clubs competing in the Premier Division and Division One of the League. These should be used for all competitions by these clubs.

Thank you.

Was formed in 1951 and has run continuously since that time. Current President, Chairman and Treasurer Mr Alan Day (Mr. White Ensign), has been involved with the club continuously since its formation, in one capacity or another.

The club competed in the Southend Borough Combination continuously for 51 years, winning no fewer than 51 trophies, before successfully gaining membership of the Essex Olympian league, in 2002. This saw the club make The Len Forge Centre its home until now, with the 1st team moving to the Basildon Sporting Villiage, while the reserves remain at the Len Forge Centre.

The club have won the Anagram Records Trophy on no fewer than three occasions, the last time was in 2007, and were losing finalists twice, the last time in 2015.

Since promotion to the Essex Olympian League in 2002/03 the club won the Premier Division Title no fewer than 5 times, the last time being 2007/08. Won the Essex Premier Cup once and the League Cup once, and losing finalists on 2 occasions.

Since 1951 the club has won no fewer than 84 trophies, 34 coming in the last 16 years. A remarkable record. But the club has hit harder times over the past nine seasons and maintaining their Premier Division status in the Essex Olympian League finally came to an end in 2014. The new management team of Aaron Bloxham and John Radford and Lance Lambert immediately got us back to the Premier Division by finishing runners up in Division One and readhing the final of the Anaqram Records Trophy. Since then, the manager and his assistant left the club and took the whole 1st team squad with them. So the club had to start over again with new players and a new management team.

This brought Brett Munyard & Pau Jackson to the club and they had to put together a new squad with the aim of keeping the club in the Premier Division. This they did for two seasons and now, with the opportunity of moving the club upward into the semi-pro world, Brett now takes on a fresh challenge to his managerial skills. Unfortunately Paul, through work commitments, had to stand down at the end of last season, but Mark Healey has come to the club from Stansted FC and has semi-pro football experience to bring to the management team.

The future is unknown for the club, but an exciting time for the players, and all who are involved with the club. While behind the scenes club officials have new challenges to face themselves.
