This handbook has been developed for tenants working in TMASF Connects member buildings to help them identify and use the best possible options for their daily and lifelong commute choices. We hope that you will explore the many links to Bay Area transportation, news information, and Work & Community service programs offered by TMASF Connects.

About Us TMASF Connects was established in 1989 to promote commute alternatives to driving alone and serves 82 of The City’s commercial office buildings representing over 25,000,000 square feet of real estate, 3,000 employers, and more than 100,000 employees. We do not accept public funding. We provide award-winning commute assistance programs, nationally recognized program models, stable staffing and board of directors, state of the art website, mapping and resources, and extensive workforce development tools – many available as a public service.
Our Programs TMASF Connects Commute program guides the workforce by linking creative, eco- conscious campaigns, promotions and programs with member outreach to increase personal mobility.
TMASF Connects Work program guides the current and future workforce to resources designed to increase productivity, employability and support life-long learning opportunities.
TMASF Connects Community program guides the workforce to daycare options for children, seniors and pets.
Program Results Independently administered trip reduction surveys from 2017 indicate that only 5.2% of all trips to member buildings are taken by commuters choosing to use single occupant vehicles. In 1990, the drive-alone rate was 13% of 30,000 commuters.
Since TMASF Connects Work Program was first authorized in 2011 to offer local workforce development services, TMASF Connects has awarded more than $90,000 in scholarship funds and support to SFUSD students and placed more than 100 students into internships and temporary assignments.
Program satisfies USGBC-LEED EBOM requirements for most members.
Website identified by Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT) in 2017 as one of their top two honor recipients in a national competition for best Marketing and Outreach program.

Services Provided to Building Tenants
Comprehensive trip reduction programs for commuters and employees
Building tenants and their employees receive TMASF Connects services as a condition of residency in a member property.
Both the TMASF Connects Commute and Work programs are dedicated to promoting options to driving alone — local employment, trip linking, wheel-based or other. Programs offer incentives, information, events, community coordination and demand responsive activities. TMASF Connects Community identifies local services to help connect commuting and working seamlessly with daycare needs for children, teens, adults or pets.
TMASF Connects Alerts and Advisories are distributed for daily episodic conditions and long-term construction and can be found on the calendar of Announcements.
TMASF Connects also has an interactive website featuring the ConnectsLink map for comprehensive trip planning.
Internships, Externships, Scholarships, Training
The TMASF Connects Work program began in 2008 and offers tools for students, job seekers and employees of all stages in their working life. The work program includes a robust scholarship program for San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) and CTE program students, internship and externship program, and Professional Development Network (search “TMASF Connects Professional Development Network” on LinkedIn to join).

Site Basics
Through the new website design, TMASF Connects offers commuters unique access to both a map and a series of interactive guides to transportation, road and traffic conditions, amenities, educational facilities and daycare facilities from the vantage point of either their office or current location. TMASF Connects takes the commuter information and expands it to offer a service for living AND navigating in and around the SF Bay Area Region.
ConnectsLink Map Tenants can locate local services and amenities from the vantage point of their member building including public transit and paratransit options, alternative commute choices, and work-life resources.

Commute Program Overview
Since 1990, TMASF Connects has offered a program to help commuters reduce their use of a single-occupant vehicle for their daily trip to work. Currently, 80 of San Francisco’s premiere office buildings offer this robust program to encourage commuters to use and understand their alternatives. As surveys have indicated a drop in the total drive-alone rate from 18% to 8.5%, we have expanded our programs to include local workforce development and community resource development, providing a full picture of the possibilities for getting to work and maximizing potential.
Information links and interactive guides, the ConnectsLink map pairing local services with trip planning tools, and other resources are available through www.tmasfconnects.org. Currently, the TMASF Connects serves more than 100,000 commuters working in member buildings. Our scholarship and internship programs are available to thousands of San Francisco students.
The TMASF Connects Commute program is a full-service commute assistance program designed to improve mobility in the City.

Work Program Overview
The Work program services offered by TMASF Connects include: Hosting an extensive website that includes tips for finding, improving, retaining and moving on from employment; A Professional Development Network for local students and interns to interact with professionals in our member buildings; Employer and Student Surveys administered 2018 to study hiring trends; Working together with local employment and educational entities to help develop curriculum and job skills that create a locally employed, competitive job market available for work in member buildings; and, Offering scholarships and internships to qualified SF students.

TMASF Connects Scholarship Program During 2011, TMASF Connects Work program began working with San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) to promote their summer internship programs to the businesses residing in our member buildings. The TMASF Connects Scholarship is open to San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) or other CTE program students who meet an overall 2.75 GPA requirement, have been accepted to post-secondary training or education program, and ideally (but not required) have completed an internship in one of our member buildings. The scholarships are 100% funded with membership fees.

Community Program Overview
The Community section identifies resources to help commuters be able to trust public transportation with reduced worry about daycare obligations for children, teens and seniors. We even identify resources to help with pet care concerns.
The TMASF Connects Community program helps residents and visitors assess their daycare needs, from caring for children to senior citizens. The TMASF Connects website offers robust and easily navigated resources.

TMASF Connects 2017 Commuter Behavior Survey Results
The purpose of the TMASF Connects Commuter Behavior Survey is to learn about the commuting behavior of employees who work in TMASF buildings and to guide program components to most effectively encourage commuters who drive alone to work to change their commute mode. The survey report, along with the survey process and analysis phase, was conducted independently by DNV GL Energy Services USA, Inc., as consultant to the TMASF, consistent with the City’s requirements. More than 6.5% (6,287) of all people working in TMASF Connects member buildings responded to the 2017 TMASF survey. However, to be consistent with the agreed-upon TMASF methodology, the data below reflects the survey results for the 1% random sample, in aggregate and per building. The percentage of commuters driving alone to work of the total 6,287 responses was 7%; whereas, the 1% random sample drive-alone rate was 8.5%.

Reported Drive-Alone Rates 2002 – 2017
The TMASF Connects Drive-Alone Rate for 2017 is 8.5%, which was calculated as the percentage of respondents who selected “drive alone” as the primary commute mode that brings them into the City and their work location. Notably, of the 8.5% total drive-alone rate, 5.2% represents the drive-alone by choice rate while 3.3% represents those who drive-alone as a work requirement. All vehicles occupied by the driver only are counted as a drive-alone, whether it be a conventional gas-powered or alternative/fuel efficient vehicle.
