Meet your neighbors! Cindy & John Wolf By Steve Novak 10598 Tidewater Key Blvd.

There are certain people who, when they walk into a room, increase the energy level ten-fold. That’s Cindy Wolf. She’s always happy and full of enthusiasm. With husband John they play on the Tidewater Bocce team in the SWFL League and Cindy is always spurring the team on. Several teams have commented on the great spirit and passion that Tidewater plays with each week. So it came as no surprise to find out that Cindy was a professional cheerleader in the NBA for the Indiana Pacers from 1981 to 1986.

In addition to 42 home games each year, there were other away events, such as dancing at the Meadowlands in New Jersey. This was in addition to her full-time job. Prior to becoming a cheerleader Cindy worked in the Pacers Press Room for two years.

John is the quieter one, yet they complement one another perfectly, which has resulted in a very happy 30 years of marriage so far. They met at work and had desks next to one another. John was the supervisor of Accounting & Payroll for a privately held public utility. He retired in 1999. Cindy started at the same company after high school and worked her way from the mailroom to accounting to Executive Assistant and retired after a successful 35-year career.

But back to the romance. Cindy would leave notes on John’s desk before he arrived at work like “Good morning, good looking!” He finally asked her out to a hockey game and asked her if she had ever been to a game. She said “yes” and off they went. During the game there was a bench-clearing fight and Cindy grabbed John and said they needed to get out of there before they got hurt. Puzzled, he said surely she had seen hockey fights at other games. Cindy confessed that she had never been to a game but said “yes” because she was afraid John would not ask her out again! Well John did and they had a big wedding in 1986 and honeymooned in Jamaica.

John and Cindy both hail from Indiana. They initially purchased a home in Osprey Cove and moved to SW Florida full-time in 2012. What attracted them to Tidewater? Cindy said that “gas cooking is a big plus!” They love it here and are looking forward to the Amenity Center opening later this year. Both love to swim, and to play sports including Pickleball, Bocce, golf and more. Cindy mentioned her rollerblades and a love of ice skating. John shared that he has not missed an Indy 500 since 1961 – a 55 year string of races. Fire up your engines, and try to keep up with the Wolfs!
