Baylor's Brittney Griner headlines 2012-13 preseason 'Wade Watch' list ATLANTA (September 18, 2012) - Baylor center Brittney Griner, the 2012 State Farm® Wade Trophy winner, headlines the 2012-13 preseason "Wade Watch" list of candidates for the prestigious award, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced today. Connecticut leads all schools with three players on the 25-member preseason list. Five schools - defending national champion Baylor, Duke, Kansas, Nebraska and Penn State - are represented by two players each. Now in its 36th year, the State Farm Wade Trophy is named in honor of the late, legendary three-time national champion Delta State University coach, Lily Margaret Wade. Regarded as "The Heisman of Women's Basketball," the award is presented annually to the NCAA® Division I Player of the Year by the National Association of Girls and Women in Sport (NAGWS) and the WBCA. The preseason list is composed of top NCAA Division I women's basketball players who best embody Wade's spirit from 18 institutions and eight conferences. A committee of coaches, administrators and media from across the United States compiled the list using the following criteria: game and season statistics, leadership, character, effect on their team and overall playing ability. Notre Dame's Skylar Diggins, Delaware's Elena Della Donne and Georgetown's Sugar Rodgers join Griner on the preseason list for the third straight year. Recognized by the United States Olympic Committee and the Union Cycliste Internationale, USA Cycling is a membership-based organization that strives to grow the sport domestically; encourage and support non-racing enthusiasts; and also foster the identification, development, and support of American cyclists in international competition. Unlike most other national cycling federations across the globe, USA Cycling receives no government funding. Sources of revenue for USA Cycling include annual membership sales, event fees, grants from the USA Cycling Foundation and the United States Olympic Committee, corporate sponsorship, and generous gifts from individual donors. In 2016, we revised both mission and vision statements to align them more closely with the changes we’ve enacted and the direction we’re heading. MISSION The mission of USA Cycling is to develop the sport of cycling in the United States at all levels and to achieve sustained international racing success while fostering a shared commitment to safety, integrity, and the joy of cycling. (Sept. 20, 2017) – McDonald’s has named Atlanta as the host city for the 2018 McDonald’s All American Games. The 2018 Games will be played on March 28, 2018 at Philips Arena, home of the Atlanta Hawks. The city previously hosted the 1983 and 1992 Boys Games. For years, Georgia has been a powerhouse for high school basketball talent. Since 1977, 41 McDonald’s All American Boys and 18 McDonald’s All American Girls players have hailed from the state. This includes 2017 Morgan Wootten Player of the Year winner, Wendell Carter, Jr. and other Games alumni including: Jaylen Brown (2015), Maya Moore (2007), Dwight Howard (2004), Shareef Abdur-Rahim (1995), and Pervis Ellison (1985). “On behalf of the Atlanta Hawks, Philips Arena and the great city of Atlanta, we’re proud to host the 2018 McDonald’s All American Games and are excited they are returning to a region of the country with such a storied legacy of basketball,” said Dominique Wilkins, Vice President of Basketball for the Atlanta Hawks and a 1979 McDonald’s All American. “Having spent much of my life playing and living here, I know the city and fans will enjoy hosting this event and seeing the next great crop of basketball talent.” The move follows a successful run of the All American Games in Chicago.
