This beautiful and hugely characterful Grade II listed family home, which boasts over thirteen acres of land as well as equestrian facilities, occupies a splendid rural location just two miles from Whaley Bridge and four miles from Chapel-en-le-Frith and New Mills in either direction. The property originally dates back to c1760, but in the past few years it has been stylishly yet very sympathetically enlarged and renovated by the current owners. “Before my husband and I came here in 2012, the property had been in the ownership of the same family for over half a century,” says the owner. “However it had been empty for seven years and it had fallen into a terrible state of disrepair. Our main motivation for buying it was the land; we wanted to keep our horses at home as well as continuing to run my 5 star rated dog boarding business. The property offered all the outside space – and a bit more – that we could have wished for. We weren’t looking for a renovation project, but we decided to take it on and it’s now a really stunning family home.”

“We enlisted the help of a fantastic local architectural practice that specialises in renovating period properties, and they managed to beautifully bring our vision for the property to life. It was stripped back to the original four walls, sympathetically extended and very sensitively modernised throughout. Externally it still looks like a lovely old farmhouse with every bit of its original character and charm, but internally it’s very much a modern home for modern living. It has kept some of its original key features, such as, gorgeous exposed beams, lots of exposed stonework and there’s a very handsome stone fireplace in the sitting room, whilst the kitchen and bathrooms are very contemporary, and we’ve added a fabulous glass link which floods the house with natural light. It’s essentially a brand new spacious, light, bright home encased within this beautiful period shell.”

“A big feature of the property is the land and the equestrian facilities,” continues the owner. “As well as over thirteen acres of pastureland, which incorporates a grass exercise arena, we also have four stables, a tack room, a feed room and a double field shelter with hard standing. It’s a beautiful spot, the views are magnificent and just outside the glass link we’ve created a lovely raised terrace – our Gin terrace – where we can sit and soak in these gorgeous surroundings.”

“It will be this amazing setting that I think I’ll miss most,” says the owner. “Rain or shine it’s such a beautiful place to be.”

It’s just a really fabulous entertaining space and we’ve had lots of brilliant dinner parties in there.”

Peathills Farm Pages.indd 10 26/08/2020 12:11 I’d say that the location offers the best of everything. We’re surrounded by nothing but rolling countryside and yet it takes just ten minutes to walk along the canal to the train station with being reached in 40mins and London in 2hours. It’s also not far to Whaley Bridge, which is a gorgeous little village with a good selection of cafes, restaurants, shops and amenities, and we’re just a hop, skip and a jump from the A6 so it’s easy to get to a number of other well-served towns and villages.”
