The Drummoyne Probus Club meets at the Drummoyne Sailing Club, 2 St George’s Crescent, Drummoyne on the first Thursday of every month, except October when it meets on the second Thursday. No meeting is held in January. OCTOBER SPEAKER

Speaker: Donald Eyb Topic: Mounted Police - Don is a retired Superintendent of Police. He trained police horses here and from all over Australia for our Olympic games. He also trained the Queen’s horses to walk side on for her jubilee celebrations. In 2013 Donald Eyb was awarded The Medal of The Order of Australia for service to equestrian sports (Former Commander of the NSW Police Mounted Unit).

Yvonne Pugh has sent an article about a trip she recently completed for raising money for: “Variety – The Children’s Charity”. The 2018 VARIETY BASH was from BONNYRIGG (New South Wales) to BRAITLING (Northern Territory). It departed at 8.00am, Sunday, 12th August, 2018. Yvonne’s article is supported with some wonderful scenic photos.

REGULAR ACTIVITIES Book and Film Club meets after the monthly Probus meeting, in the same room. The book for October is “Barney Greatrex” by Michael Veitch and the book for November is “The Dry” by Jane Harper.

Mah-jong. Learning and playing is on the first and third Thursdays of the month between 2.00pm and 4.00pm and is open to members of Drummoyne Probus Club and Drummoyne Sailing Club. This activity is held in the same room in which the monthly Probus meeting is held.

Card Group: Meets 2nd Thursday each month at Sailors Lounge Drummoyne Sailing Club (subject to availability) 2pm - 4pm with optional Happy Hour to follow. EVENTS COMMITTEE

Members are encouraged to join the Probus Events Committee. This is separate from the Management Committee and meets regularly to discuss events that may be of interest to members and then to proceed and organise such events. If you are interested, please contact Ian McAllister 9719 8713.

PROBUS MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

Would all members check that their DSC membership is current with 2019 on the front of their card. Renewals were due 30th June 2018.

PLEASE NOTE; VISITORS

Members are reminded that, in accordance with the Club’s Standing Resolutions, visitors may only attend meetings of the Club by the invitation of the Management Committee. However, visitors may participate in functions/outings on no more than three occasions providing vacancies exist. If a member wishes to invite a friend to participate in a club function/outing they should speak to the contact member listed.

IMPORTANT NOTICE RE BOOKING EVENTS

When booking events, CORRECT money must be put in the envelope with name and event details on the outside. Giving the incorrect amount of money causes problems for the event organisers.

Bus tour to Tamworth - some spots still available. Bus leaves the club at 7.45am.

Discover Australia’s Country Music Capital. Visit the Liverpool Plains around Quirindi and the New England High Country. Visit Uralla, Nundle, Werris Creek and the Memorial Gardens at Wallabadah.

30th Oct. Tuesday 8.52am Sculpture by the Sea

We will meet at Drummoyne Wharf to catch the 8.52 ferry to the Quay, arriving at 9.21. Others may meet us at Wharf 5 at 9.20. We will catch the 9.33am bus, No 333 from nearby Stand B to go to Bondi Beach.

The walk to see the sculptures is cliff-top, with fabulous views, and finishes at Tamarama. After a picnic lunch we can return by bus from Tamarama .

Please wear comfortable shoes and clothes to suit the weather, including sunscreen, hat and water.

Also bring morning tea / lunch, and money for coffee.

15th Nov. Thursday Morning Walk Rose Bay to Watson’s Bay with options to join/leave at Nielsen Park.

Approximately 4 hours plus travel. Meet at Circular Quay at 9.35 (9.10 ferry from Drummoyne or 8.52 M52 or other bus from Drummoyne Post Office.) Catch 9.47 ferry to Rose Bay, arriving 10.00am.

We will walk through parks and streets of Rose Bay, and then follow the Hermitage Foreshore Scenic walk. After stopping at Nielsen Park for coffee, we will continue to Watson’s Bay where we can return to the city via ferry.

This walk offers spectacular views, remnant heath, rainforest and secluded beaches.

If you prefer not to walk through bush (Grade 3, many steps), join us at Nielsen park (estimated time 11.30 – 11.45) and walk to Watson’s Bay. Alternatively, if you prefer a shorter walk, you can finish at Nielsen Park and catch a 325 bus back to the city.

Please wear comfortable shoes and a hat, bring water and sunscreen and dress appropriately for the weather.

21st March Thursday 2pm "Seniors Moments" Riverside Theatre Parramatta

If you want 90 minutes of laughter, please join us to watch John Wood, Max Gillies, Benita Collings (Playschool) and Geoff Harvey on the piano. This show will remind you of some of the hilarious senior moments that you may have experienced.

Metro Bus 50 goes to Parramatta.
