The Hobey Baker Foundation on Wednesday announced the three Hobey Hat Trick finalists for the 2007 Hobey Baker Memorial Award, honoring college hockey’s top player. Alphabetically, they are: David Brown, senior goalie from Notre Dame; Ryan Duncan, sophomore forward from North Dakota; and Eric Ehn, junior forward from Air Force. PAST HOBEY BAKER AWARD WINNERS The three finalists were selected from the initial list of Top Ten candidates by the 25-member Selection Committee and an additional round of online fan balloting to determine this year’s Hobey 1981 – Neal Broten University of Minnesota Baker winner. Criteria for the award includes: strength of character on and off the ice, displaying 1982 – George McPhee outstanding skills in all phases of the game, sportsmanship and scholastic achievements. Bowling Green State Univ. 1983 – Mark Fusco Harvard University This year’s Hobey Baker Award winner will be announced Friday, April 6, 2007 from Scottrade 1984 – Tom Kurvers Center in St. Louis, during the NCAA Frozen Four Tournament. The announcement will be aired Univ. of Minnesota-Duluth live on ESPNU at 6:00 pm CT. 1985 – Bill Watson Univ. of Minnesota-Duluth David Brown of Notre Dame is a senior goalie who turned in a spectacular season helping the 1986 – Scott Fusco Harvard University Fighting Irish to a pair of school firsts: the CCHA regular season championship and the CCHA 1987 – Tony Hrkac playoff title. Advancing to the NCAA Midwest Regional as the number one seed, Notre Dame fell in University of North Dakota the championship game to CCHA rival Michigan State, 2-1. Named the CCHA Player of the Year, 1988 – Robb Stauber University of Minnesota Brown, from Stoney Creek, Ontario, finished the season with a won-loss record of 30-6-3 in 39 1989 – Lane MacDonald games. He leads the nation in goals against average with a 1.58 mark (almost three-tenths better than Harvard University his closest rival) and in wins. His outstanding save percentage of .931 is second in the nation. A 1990 – Kip Miller Management Consulting major and on the school’s Dean’s List, Brown also found time to assist in Michigan State University 1991 – David Emma the Buddy Walk for kids with Downs Syndrome, volunteered every Tuesday for a Kindergarten Boston College Read-To-A-Kid program and assisted in team sponsored Christmas parties for kids. A Pittsburgh draft 1992 – Scott Pellerin pick, Brown set seven career and single-season team records. University of Maine 1993 – Paul Kariya University of Maine Ryan Duncan of North Dakota is a sophomore forward whose scoring exploits have helped the 1994 – Chris Marinucci Fighting Sioux to their third straight visit to the NCAA Frozen Four tournament. In 42 games to Univ. of Minnesota-Duluth date, the diminutive Duncan (5’8 and 155 pounds) has bagged 31 goals and 26 assists for 57 points 1995 – Brian Holzinger Bowling Green State Univ. planting him fourth in the nation in scoring and second in goals. His 17 power play markers are 1996 – Brian Bonin second best in the country. The WCHA Player of the Year led the conference in points, goals, power University of Minnesota play goals and game winning goals. The Sioux defeated Minnesota 3-2 in overtime in the NCAA 1997 – Brendan Morrison West Regional final, helped by Duncan’s first period tally. Hailing from Calgary, Alberta, Duncan is University of Michigan a pro hockey free agent and is undecided in his major, but is a WCHA All Academic student-athlete. 1998 – Chris Drury Boston University 1999 – Jason Krog Eric Ehn of Air Force is flying high as a junior forward and has helped the Falcons to Univ. of New Hampshire unprecedented heights. Ehn (pronounced EEN), from Dexter, Michigan, led the nation in scoring for 2000 – Mike Mottau Boston College several weeks during the season and finished the year with 24 goals and 40 assists for 64 points in 2001 – Ryan Miller 40 games, sitting second in the nation in points and assists. Becoming the first military person to be Michigan State University nominated for the Hobey Top Ten, Ehn led the Atlantic Hockey Association in points, goals and 2002 – Jordan Leopold assists and set the AHA record for points in a season. The AHA Player of the Year sparked his University of Minnesota 2003 – Peter Sejna Falcons to their first-ever NCAA tournament appearance, bowing out in a close 4-3 loss to Colorado College Minnesota in the West Regional semifinal. Winning an excellent 63 percent of his faceoffs, the 2004 – Junior Lessard Air Force centerman is a Systems Engineering Management major and is AHA All Academic. He is Univ. of Minnesota-Duluth the element leader for his squadron; assisted in the logistics of the Walk for a Cure for Juvenile 2005 – Marty Sertich Colorado College Diabetes, has spoken and read books to numerous school groups, and helps dispense toys to 2006 – Matt Carle hospitalized children during the team’s annual holiday toy drive.
