  • Reign Men Taps Into a Compelling Oral History of Game 7 in the 2016 World Series
Reign Men taps into a compelling oral history of Game 7 in the 2016 World Series. Talking Cubs heads all top CSN Chicago producers need in riveting ‘Reign Men’ By George Castle, CBM Historian Posted Thursday, March 23, 2017 Some of the most riveting TV can be a bunch of talking heads. The best example is enjoying multiple airings on CSN Chicago, the first at 9:30 p.m. Monday, March 27. When a one-hour documentary combines Theo Epstein and his Merry Men of Wrigley Field, who can talk as good a game as they play, with the video skills of world-class producers Sarah Lauch and Ryan McGuffey, you have a must-watch production. We all know “what” happened in the Game 7 Cubs victory of the 2016 World Series that turned from potentially the most catastrophic loss in franchise history into its most memorable triumph in just a few minutes in Cleveland. Now, thanks to the sublime re- porting and editing skills of Lauch and McGuffey, we now have the “how” and “why” through the oral history contained in “Reign Men: The Story Behind Game 7 of the 2016 World Series.” Anyone with sense is tired of the endless shots of the 35-and-under bar crowd whooping it up for top sports events. The word here is gratuitous. “Reign Men” largely eschews those images and other “color” shots in favor of telling the story. And what a tale to tell. Lauch and McGuffey, who have a combined 20 sports Emmy Awards in hand for their labors, could have simply done a rehash of what many term the greatest Game 7 in World Series history.

TOWN OF HANOVER NEW HAMPSHIRE ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING JUNE 30, 2015 & 2016 TOWN MEETING ANNUAL TOWN MEETING Tuesday, May 10, 2016 Voting: 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Business Meeting: 7:00 p.m. Hanover High School Gymnasium 41 Lebanon Street FIRE DEPARTMENT IN REMEMBRANCE JERYL L. FRANKENFIELD On September 13, 2015, the Town of Hanover lost a valued friend. Jerry was the cornerstone of the Fire Department, spending a 42 year career working in various positions for the department, most recently that of the Deputy Fire Chief / Hanover Fire Marshal. Jerry was a thoughtful, passionate person who valued codes, rules and regulations. His goal was to make both the Town of Hanover and the Dartmouth campus a safer place for its citizens and students. His job required him to work with people of all walks of life and he earned the respect of professors, administrators, contractors and laborers alike. He had a valued, longstanding working relationship with Dartmouth College and he knew top to bottom every building on campus, as well as in the Town. As a tribute to Jerry for his service to their community, on September 25-26, 2015, Dartmouth College lowered their flag to half-staff on the Green; a tradition reserved to honor deceased trustees, students, faculty and staff and one that speaks volumes. Jerry was highly respected by those he worked with at the Hanover schools and he remained a volunteer for the high school’s annual Project Graduation long after his children had graduated. On a personal side, Jeryl was an avid collector of antique John Deere tractors and a member of many clubs.

  • 56. Baseball Moves the All Star Game
theglobeandmail.com Baseball sheds unhurried image by swiftly moving All-Star Game from Atlanta over Georgia voting laws David Shribman 5-7 minutes Ground crews prepare the field at Sun Trust Park, now known as Truist Park, ahead of Game 3 of MLB baseball's National League Division Series between the Atlanta Braves and the Los Angeles Dodgers in Atlanta on Oct. 7, 2018. Baseball has never been in a hurry. It took decades to invite Black players into the game. Last week’s Opening Day contest between the Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates required four hours to play nine innings. Pitchers in this era are taking an average of 23.8 seconds between pitches – an eon when you consider that it is almost exactly half the time of an entire line shift in the National Hockey League. So it was something of a shock – and an apt measure of how the sports world today is attuned to the political world – that Major League Baseball took just a week to move its midsummer All- Star Game from Atlanta in condemnation of Georgia’s new law that critics describe as a prescription for voter suppression, especially of Black voters. It is also an acknowledgement of how social activism has moved to centre court, centre circle, centre ice, the 55-yard line, and the diamond battery – and how the cause of racial justice and baseball management’s effort to enhance its relationship with the players’ union became a perfect double-play combination. This dramatic action – requiring enormous logistical and financial adjustments for a multiday sporting extravaganza scheduled years in advance, with ripples extending to airline reservations, hotel arrangements and civic celebrations – provided baseball with a chance to make an important statement for a sport that went from 18.7-per-cent Black players in 1981 to about a third of that rate today.

  • Baltimore Rookie Watkins Pitches Orioles to 6-1 Win Vs Rays
Baltimore rookie Watkins pitches Orioles to 6-1 win vs Rays ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Rookie right-hander Spenser Watkins gave up one run in six innings as the Baltimore Orioles tied a season high with their third consecutive win, 6-1 over the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night. The 28-year old Watkins, making his third start and fourth career appearance, scattered four hits, walked two and struck out seven. His ERA dropped from 1.74 to 1.65 (three earned runs over 16 1/3 innings). Watkins (2-0) was signed as a minor league free agent in February after not pitching in 2020 and spending 2014-19 in the Detroit organization. He had considered taking a high school freshman team coaching job in Arizona before signing with Baltimore. It’s the fifth three-game winning streak for the Orioles, who have an AL-worst record of 31-62. Cole Sulser, Paul Fry and Tyler Wells completed the five- hitter. Baltimore entered 0-6 against the Rays this season, getting outscored 48-21. Tampa Bay All-Star catcher Mike Zunino exited after three innings with left hip flexor tightness. Designated hitter Yandy Diaz departed after five innings due to neck spasms. The Rays (55-39) are 8-3 since July 4. Ryan Mountcastle flared an RBI double down the right field line and Anthony Santander hit a sacrifice fly as the Orioles took a 2-0 lead in the first. Pat Valaika had a two-out, two-run single during a four-run sixth that made it 6-0.
