Fort Bragg, established in 1918 as a Field Artillery site is the largest post in the Army by population. Located 50 miles South of Raleigh, the NC state capitol, and 10 miles from Fayetteville it is home to six major commands.

Forces Command, established as General Headquarters/Field Forces U.S. Army in 1940 prepares conventional forces to provide a sustained flow of trained and ready land power to Combatant Commanders in defense of the Nation.

United States Army Reserve Command, established in 1991, traces its lineage to 1908, when Congress directed the Army to establish a reserve corps of medical officers.

XVIII Airborne Corps, established in 1944, with subordinate divisions spread along the East coast and the at Fort Bragg. Additional units include the 16th MP Brigade, 18th Field Artillery Brigade, 20th Engineer Brigade, , , 108th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, 525th Expeditionary MI Brigade, 50th Signal Battalion and the 192nd Explosive Ordnance Disposal Battalion. The XVIII Airborne Corps Commander is the Senior Commander of the Fort Bragg Installation.

U.S. Army Special Operations Command with subordinate units: the 1st Special Forces Command with the 3rd Special Forces Group; U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School, with the 1st Special Warfare Training Group; U.S. Army Special Operations Aviation Command, 95th Civil Affairs Brigade, 528th Special Operations Support Brigade, and the U.S. Army Military Information Support Operations Command with the 4th and 8th Military Information Support Operations Groups.

Joint Special Operations Command, established in 1980 and charged to study and execute special operations requirements and techniques to ensure interoperability and equipment standardization across the services.

Security Force Assistance Command, provides units whose core mission is to conduct training, advising, assisting, enabling and accompanying operations with allied and partner nations. Subordinate units currently include three Brigades with 2SFAB located at Fort Bragg.

Fort Bragg is also home to the 3rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command; U.S. Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command with the 1st CA/PO Training Brigade; 43rd Air Mobility Operations Group; 18th Air Support Operations Group; Womack Army Medical Center; U.S. Army Dental Activity; 4th ROTC Brigade; U.S. Army Security Assistant Training Management Organization; 139th Infantry Regiment (NCNG); IMCOM Directorate - Readiness Headquarters and the U.S. Army Parachute Team (Golden Knights).
