University of Parma Advanced Master Course in “International Health and Medicine for Cooperation with Developing Countries”
Objective The aim of the Master’s program is to train doctors with multi-sector skills, necessary to operate in ambulatories, healthcare centres, hospitals and medical districts characterized by poor infrastructures and management systems, that are typical to the high-poverty areas, facing cases of ordinary and extraordinary emergencies of various entities.
Planned activities The Master Course lasts one year and includes lectures, seminars, interactive didactics, videoconferencing, practical activities and internship under the supervision of mentors, at the University Hospital of Parma and in other Structures / Laboratories; all these activities will be mainly held in English language.
Planned Master Program The program of the lectures is planned to be the following:
EESC - Emergency and essential surgical care (teachers of the World Health Organization) Anesthesia and resuscitation guidelines First aid Diagnostic imaging, radiology, telemedicine Traumatology General surgery Training in sexual and reproductive health research (teachers of the Geneva Foundation for Medical Education and Research) Obstetrics, gynecology and women’s health Pediatrics Internal medicine - Infectivology Oral and maxillofacial surgery - Dentistry Ophthalmology - Otorinolaringoiatry Common medical problems in tropical Countries Guidelines for Hospital and Pharmacy management Nursing and medical assistance personnel management Health cooperation and development Medical anthropology and sociological aspects Please note that the planned program could be modified, if necessary.
Regarding the practical activities, the teachers will try to fulfill, whenever possible, the needs of each participant.
