Balanced Finish: Depth helped UCLA capture the 2000 National Collegiate Women’s Championships at Boise State University April 13-14, including four team members scoring a 9.85 or above on the exercise and four 9.9s on the led the way for the Bruins squad by earning a 9.950 on the . The Bruins finished the evening on the beam when Lena Degteva scored a 9.9130 and Bhardwaj fol- lowed with a 9.900 to seal the Bruins’ victory. UCLA scored 197.300 points to win the title. The battle was tight for the second-place finish. Utah earned second-place honors by posting 196.875. Georgia, the two-time defending champion, was less than a tenth behind the Utes with a tally of 196.800 points. Nebraska was on the Bulldogs’ heels and finished fourth with 196.725 points. Four Bruins scored 9.85 or above in the floor exercise event, including Heidi Moneymaker’s UCLA head coach Valorie Kondos was proud of the Bruins’ efforts. She gave credit not only to the 9.8750. UCLA’s balanced scoring earned the upperclassmen, but she also acknowledged the strong routines posted by her freshmen. Kondos Bruins their second NCAA title in four years. said, “Everybody performed like I expected, and the freshmen carried us for the second night in a row.
